Kodos and Ellie took the skiff they were on down to the ground zero site of the catastrophe. But Kodos had other reasons for the invite.

As night fell again the beautiful stars over head was still beautiful and he knew it.

" Lieutenant have you ever seen as beautiful a site as this?" Kodos asked her as the landscape of desert and red crystal in the sand sparkled at the moon light.

Ellie shook her head as she looked up at the Sky. “I’m amongst the stars every day, but they look so much more beautiful from the surface.” She looked at Kodos. “You’re lucky to have such beauty to look up at.”

" I am and especially with your beauty Lieutenant. We have a custom I wish to ask for permission to kiss your hands. You can say no and I will understand." Kodos requested.

Ellie looked at Kodos curiously. “Who am I to refuse your customs?” She nodded and offered a warm smile.

Kodos gently turned her wrists over and opened her palms. Pressing his lips to her hand he made little kisses up her arm to her mid arm and then paused. He then switched to the left arm and did the same.

" This is our sign of romantic expression. If you were like minded you would do the same and then the two of us would form a bond...and embrace. We would then be mated." Kodos explained. " I dare say you are not so interested. I have waited for the right one all of my youth..

Ellie looked at Kodos in surprise. “Wait ... you see me as your prospective mate?” She couldn’t help but blush. “Kodos I ...” She paused. “As much as I like you, chances are once my ship leaves here I may never see you again. My species are strongly attached to their loved ones, we date, we marry, we live together ..”

" We do that here but this is special....I have dishonored myself...ease return to the skiff I must make amends to the wizards...." Kodos began to cry.

“Wait!” Ellie gently took Kodos’ hand. She raised her other hand and wiped away the tears that were running down his cheeks. “You have not dishonoured yourself, I am flattered” she smiled as she looked into his eyes. For a moment she simply stood before leaning forward and gently kissing him.

Kodos paused and then staggered back. "You do like me." Kodos smiled. " When you return to your ship I wish to go with you."

Ellie looked at Kodos in utter amazement, a warmer smile appearing on her face. “What about your home? What would you do aboard the ship? I wouldn’t want you to feel unhappy.”

" I have applied to the foreign ministry."

Ellie nodded then did something surprising she gently repeated the ritual palm and arm kissing that Kodos had done for her. “Did I do that right?”

Kodos chuckled.

" On Savai the female is the prize to seek. All you had to do was give that kiss. I will not hold you to it but in our culture we are now one. To be anointed by the great wizard of Koth. Come let us look for clues now. We will discuss this tonight at evening meal.

Ellie smiled and nodded. “Of course, I’m here for a reason. But are we going to be able to search properly in the dark? Wouldn’t it be safer to wait until morning?”

Kodos was referring to the light that had been brought down. His mind so occupied he didn't realize the hour.

" This is your fault you are very distracting Ellie Kees."

Suddenly the sky erupted with sound as a low flying ship flee over head knocking them all to the sandy ground.

Kodos looked over to Ellie.

" Are you injured?'

There was no response, Ellie lay momentarily unconscious having hit her head on a large stone as she fell. She slowly started to stir raising her hand to where she’d now got a bleeding gash and a lump on her forehead. “I err ... I’m okay, I think.”

Kodos helped her up and back to the skiff .

" Quickly get us back to the Legitimate."

Ellie nodded albeit gingerly, “I’m still planning on that dinner.” She offered a smile as she unpacked her emergency medkit and held a gauze pad to her forehead. “Could you help me with this? I’ll explain what to do.”

Kodos complied and soon the skiff touched down back on the Savai Legitimate Island. The fighter was gone but Lt Urma was manning the shuttle craft. Rushing to their side Urma stood ready to assist.

" You will not die Ellie...I will sacrifice to assure this," Kodos promised.

“I’m not going to die from this” Ellie smiled. “All I need you to do is use this ...” She handed him a dermal regenerator. “All you have to do is press that, and run it in front of my wound. I can’t see to do it myself.” She pulled out a mild analgesic and gave herself a shot for the headache she now had. “It’ll do until I can get back aboard my ship for a check up.”

Kodos used the dermal regeneration device and magically Ellie's wound vanished.

" Clearly you are a unique people." Kodos declared . He then put his face closer and kissed Ellie in the lips. " I really wanted to do that."

Their moment was paused as Ellie's com badge chirped.

[ Commander Will Raymond to Lt Kees. I need to see you near the Viceroys office. Do you copy?]

Ellie sighed and tapped her comm badge. “Understood Commander, I’ll be there as soon as I can. Kees out” She gave Kodos an apologetic look. “Looks like dinner will have to wait a while longer.”

Kodos helped Ellie up and walked her over to the center square where Commander Raymond waited.

" Sir I am afraid this is a Federation issue. Please excuse us." Will told Kodos.

Kodos bowed, smiled at Ellie and then excused himself.

Will then looked to Kees

" We have a Prime Directive issue. It would seem the Savai have not been very honest with us. Or Viceroy hasn't. The alien ship that knocked you down has been here before. Infact those aliens brought the humanoid species here a few centuries ago. They are here to reclaim them back again." Will told Ellie.

“What?” Ellie looked at Raymond in surprise. “How can they reclaim a species that they left here? This current generation are people that were born here. This is their home.”

" Ee have been dooped into an interstellar cluster. I am recalling the away team and we are leaving Savai. Say your goodbye to Kodos and be on the shuttle in one hour," Will ordered her.

“But Sir ...” Ellie looked shocked at the whole idea. “Kodos has expressed an interest in leaving with us.”

" That may not be possible. I am calling the Commodore now to let her know we are leaving." Will added.

Will jumped inside the Beloit.

Ellie sighed and headed off to speak to Kodos, she wasn’t happy about this at all.

" What is wrong Lieutenant? You look like a wet Fur baby. Come to my place for nurishment and we can talk." Kodos inquired.

“I’m afraid I don’t have time, the people who left your ancient ancestors here have returned to claim your people. They want us gone, as soon as possible.” Ellie gave Kodos an unhappy look.

Kodos could not understand her meanings as her words did not discern to him.

" Take me with you Ellie..." he pined

“You’ll need to talk to Commander Raymond, the decision isn’t mine to make.” She offered an apologetic smile before heading back to the shuttle.


< Shuttle >

Will opened the channel to the Starbase Mercury Array and hoped his message reached the Amandora.

" Commander Raymond to USS Amandora...priority One message for Commodore Song."

"Commodore incoming message from Commander Raymond, priority one," communications announced

"On screen," Cyndi ordered.

Static filled the screen but Will could see his Commander.

" Great to see y....Ma'am the sit...ation has changed. The Savai.......We are leaving and enroute to the Amandora...estimated time and speed one standard month at maximum speed. We are also bringing a visitor....who wishes to represent his world "

"Communications boost your gain, clear that up," Cyndi ordered "Commander if that shuttle is damaged you don't have a month out there. I'm sending a run about out to you now. It'll arrive in a few days." Cyndi sent a message to the shuttle bay to have a run about sent to pick up the commander as his away team.

" Acknowledged Commodore. We will wait for the run about to arrive and pull it via tractor beam. Has Dr Long and Lt Herculoid arrived back safe yet?' Will replied.

"Yes, both are here safely, Herculoid is on lite duty for a couple of days but both are fine. They did get a look at the Iwo Jima when the fighter Long was piloting dropped from warp. I've not had a chance to speak to either of them," Cyndi said.

" Commodore we were not given the whole story. When the aliens arrived and we learned of their arrival Viceroy told me the whole story. The humanoids were planted here by a species called the Corjii. Apparently they were the Wizards of their lore. This place is like Australia on Earth. A home for prisoners." Will added.

"I see," Cyndi commented "We'll discuss this more when you get here and I meet with the representative of that planet. Remember they have asked for admittance into the Federation."

" Well now I see why. They do not wish to be subjugate to the Corjii." Will replied.

"I'm looking forward to your report and meeting the representative of that world. I've received a very detailed report from Lieutenant Herculoid from a science standpoint," Cyndi replied

The signal faded as it had before. Will turned to Urma and the others.

" We will wait for the rescue runabout which should be here in a few days. Ellie inform Kodos he can come with.'

“Yes Sir!” Ellie smiled from ear to ear as she stepped out of the shuttle, she wanted to tell him in person. It didn’t take long to head back to him. “Kodos!” She smiled warmly, “You can accompany us!”

Kodos smiled.

" I will need to bring some special items. I also have to meet with Viceroy to get permission to go." Kodos added.

Ellie nodded. “I’ll wait at the shuttle for you, I don’t want to get in your way.”

Kodos left her and was with Viceroy for several hours. Upon returning his demeanor had changed as if he had been hit by an asteroid.

" Ellie I have just been informed news that shakes me to my core. My whole belief system has been a lie. My education a joke. I am not worthy to go with you back to your ship. My people are slaves to another race and they are returning to enslave us again." Kodos told Ellie

“That was then, this is now. You’re a people in your own right. No one has a claim on the future generations of a race they long ago abandoned!” Ellie smiled. “You told me you’d waited for someone like me, if you still want to go I’d like very much for you to come.”

Kodos smiled but inside his whole demeanor was rattled. His religion and life were now all a lie and only this trip to the visitors ship was his reality.

" All of this is true Ellie. I will be the best ambassador I can be." Kodos replied.

Ellie nodded. "Of that I have no doubt."
