[Biology Lab]

After James had left Lieutenant Herculoid's quarters he stopped by the Lab with lots of gifts for Heather. When he walked in he noticed she was hard at work.

“Hi Lieutenant McTavish , boy do I have goodies for you” James stated as he walked up to Heather and placed everything in front of her.

“What's all this” she asked “And hi to you too Lieutenant.” she replied with a puzzled look.

“That is the Tricorder and samples from Savai that Tara collected” James explained “ She had a mishap on the planet so she's resting for the rest of the day; Doctor's orders. She'll probably be back to work tomorrow.”

“What happened; is she alright” an excited and concerned Heather asked.

“Tara's fine; she had an argument with a crystal shard and lost. Anyway she was concerned about not being able to start the analysis of the data right away, so I told her you could start it for her. I hope you don't mind” James said.

A smile came over Heather's face “No...not at all....to tell you the truth I was tired of trying to find busy work...this will be a welcome change....I'll get on it straight away” answered a happy Heather “At the very least I can start it for her. When did you say she'd return to work.”

“Probably tomorrow; but do me a favor....keep an eye on her and if she seems to be getting badly fatigued, see if you can get her to knock off for the rest of the day” he suggested.

Heather just chuckled “Ya, good luck with that....I'll do my best but no promises” she replied.

“Good enough....have fun with your new goodies....I'll leave you to it then.....I have some sensor scans to go over. If anyone needs me I'll be in my Office” James said. Heather just nodded as he left the Lab.

[CSO's Office]

When James walked into his office he went to the replicator to get a badly needed cup of coffee. Sitting at his desk he typed in his security clearance into the terminal and brought up the data from both the scans and the probe. He figured he may as well start with the wide sweep sensor scans first as he sipped his coffee.

After spending several minutes looking over the scan he really didn't see anything out of the ordinary or anything to be concerned about. Then he started going through the data from the probe from the past few hours. Then something caught his eye.

“Computer enhance grid seven zero four by two hundred times” he ordered.

“Enhancing now” came the reply. James saw something that he wasn't too happy to see “Computer analyze grid seven zero four point eight....tell me what you see” he instructed.

“Analyzing grid seven zero four point eight now......there is a spacial distortion that is consistent with a collapsed wormhole” the Computer reported.

“Great, that's all we need” he said out loud with sarcasm evident in his voice.

“Computer has the distortion moved at all since the probe has been recording data and how far away from the Amandora is it” James queried.

“The distortion is stationary and has not moved since the probe has been recording data. The distortion is ninety light years away” the Computer reported.

James sat back in his chair and sipped his coffee thinking that the wormhole was collapsed and was certainly a safe distance from the Ship; since it was stationary it shouldn't pose any problems. But something was nagging him about the distortion. It shouldn't post any threats to Planet Savai. Still he knew what he had to do.

James contacted the Cartography Department and had the Ensign upload the information into their Computer to monitor the distortion twenty four seven and to report any changes to me immediately; then he wrote up a report as follows:

TO: Commodore Cyndi Song
Commander Will Raymond
Major David Hurd Senior
Lieutenant Tara Herculoid, PhD

FROM: Chief Science Officer

PRIORITY: High

This is to inform you that a spacial distortion was discovered via a launched probe sent beyond Planet Savai. Upon analysis the distortion is consistent with a collapsed wormhole which is ninety light years away from our present position. While it's believed that said distortion poses no threat to our current mission, precautionary steps have been taken. The Stellar Cartography Lab's Computer is monitoring the distortion twenty four seven and will notify necessary Command personnel immediately should anything change or become a threat to the Amandora or it's mission.

Lieutenant James E. McTavish
Chief Science Officer
USS Amandora

END TRANSMISSION

James read over the report one last time then hit the send key on his terminal. He sat back in his chair and finished his last bit of coffee knowing that he had all the bases covered as far as the spacial distortion was concerned.

After finishing up a few more things James decided that he had enough for one day. He locked up his Office and started for home to see the lovely Heather McTavish.
