After several hours at high warp in the fighter Kristian dropped it from warp as she approached the Amandora. Spotting the Iwo Jima floating not far from the ship “Tara what is that?” Kristian asked
Looking out the window of the fighter Tara let out a low whistle as she saw for the first time the ship the major had mentioned wanting to find and board “That is the Iwo Jima, Major Hurd reported it lost with all hands and then he got some kind of distress call from it and wanted the commodore to check it out. Last I knew he was going to board her alone. I wanted to launch a probe and have a look at it but he knocked that idea down.”
“It looks dead from here,” Kristian said “If there was a distress call from it, it could be on automatic,” Kristian commented as she turned the fighter toward the Amandora, getting permission to land headed for the fighter landing bay. Shutting down the engines as the ship’s tractor beam took over to bring the fighter aboard. A slight jolt as the craft touched down, opening the canopy Kristian climbed out, dropped the helmet onto the seat and waited for Tara to climb out. The minute she did Kristian did a site to site transport to sick bay. Kristian pointed to a bio bed.
Tara took a seat on the bio bed not even arguing with her cousin as the pain meds had worn off, “My research, tri-coder and such are still in the fighter. Lieutenant McTavish will want see it.”
“All in due time,” Kristian said “Lay down and I’ll run scans to see what more I need to do, that shard was deep you’re lucky it missed vital organs.” Kristian loaded a hypo-spray and a pain killer and pressed it against her cousin’s neck. Picking up her medical tri-coder Kristian scanned her cousin’s side and set to work repairing the damage.
After nearly an hour Kristian put her equipment down and scanned Tara again “I got all the fragments out, you’ll be sore for a day or two.” Offering her hand to help Tara sit up “I’ll go secure the fighter, get your research, tri-coder, samples and field kit and bring them to your quarters. Rest the rest of the day and you can return to work tomorrow BUT you’re not to overdo it and if the chief sends you to your quarters don’t argue with him. I’ll send him a report along with a copy to the commodore clearing you for light duty for a few days.”
“Thank you Kristian,” Tara said swinging her legs over the side of the bio bed “I’m not going to argue with you this time, but since you cut up my uniform I’m going to need something to wear to my quarters.”
“I’ll be right back,” Kristian said walking to the rear of sick bay and returned a few minutes later with a pair of sweat pants and a sweat shirt. “Put these on and go to you quarters. I’ll be by in a bit. I have reports to send to your boss, my boss and the commodore and you have reports to work on only not today.”
Tara thanked her cousin and hugged her before heading for her quarters.
Kristian watched her go and sent a message off to James informing him his assistant was aboard and while fine she was on light duty for a few days, she then sent off a message to Song and the CMO before heading to the fighter bay to secure the fighter and get Tara’s work she’d left in the fighter. Once everything had been collected Kristian ran her hand along the sleek hull of the fighter and smiled. She’d gotten to fly it and envied Alesha.
