Now that the day was over James and Heather were back in their quarters thinking about what to have for dinner while enjoying a drink together.
Heather looked at James “So what you would you like for dinner?”
He thought for a few moments “You know what really sounds good.....steak, eggs, and hash browns. I could really go for breakfast for dinner; what do you think” came the reply.
“Sounds good to me” she responded. So the two of them went to the kitchen and made their meal together then ate at the table while chatting about their day. After dinner, and the kitchen was tidied up, they each grabbed another drink and headed back out into the living room and sat on the couch.
After a few minutes James turned to Heather “For some reason I was thinking today about the first time I asked you out on the Dunkirk and I have no idea why” James said with a smile.
“That's funny asking me out should come to mind. I remember this handsome smooth talking guy, or at least He thought so, coming up to me to ask me out. Actually, if I remember correctly, he was as nervous as a school boy” Heather said with a giggle “I'm surprised I said yes now that I look back on it.”
“Hey!....I was...I am a smooth talker and if I remember correctly, I wasn't the only 'nervous nellie' in that situation. You kind of stumbled over your words trying to say yes” he replied with a smirk.
“Ok you got me....I guess your right. So do you remember what we did on our first date there smarty pants” she said.
James had to think for a few moments “Yes, actually I do. We went to the Ship's Lounge, sat and had a few drinks. Then I asked you to dance and we danced the night away” he remembered fondly.
Heather leaned in and gave James a kiss “Well, color me impressed. I didn't know if you'd remember or not” she replied feeling quite special at the moment.
“It wasn't that long ago you know. I also was thinking, while we were dancing, that I really needed to start dating this lovely creature and boy am I glad I did” came the reply then he gave he an affectionate kiss.
“I'm so glad you were that sure of yourself Mr. McTavish, because it took me a while longer before I started to think that we could be more.” Heather responded.
James just chuckled “Ya, I sort of go that impression; but I was determined not to give up.”
“Matter of fact if I recall, for the next month or so I kept getting flowers delivered to my quarters twice a week like clockwork with a note attached 'Miss me yet' and they all had the same note” she replied.
He just laughed “Well it worked didn't it. I was hoping sooner or later I would wear you down so we could see each other more than once in awhile.”
Heather just giggled “Yes it worked, you wore me down. I thought if this guy is willing to spend this much money on flowers maybe I should give him a second look” then she gave him a kiss “Best decision I ever made.”
“Since we're taking a trip down memory lane; do you remember the first time we made love” James asked hoping Heather would remember.
Heather sat and thought “Yes I do.....we had been going out for about six months on a regular basis. Then one evening at my quarters things got a little out of hand and I thought why not. I also remember being very nervous because I was having feelings for you and I didn't want to screw it up” she replied “Besides I wasn't sure what you would think of me naked.”
James looked at Heather right in the eyes “Yes I remember being nervous also, but for different reasons. I wanted to make sure that I made you feel like a women. I also remember being in complete awe of that sexy body of yours while thinking that I was the luckiest man in the universe at that moment.”
Heather had to fight back some tears while recalling their romance “And you always make me feel like women sweetheart; that's one of the many reasons that I love you so much” then she gave James a very passionate kiss.
As they were finishing their drinks she asked one more question “So my love, do you remember the night you proposed to me” Heather was really hoping that he remembered.
James just smiled “How could I ever forget that night. We got dressed up and went to the Ship's Lounge for dinner and dancing. When it got to be about twenty two hundred we sat for one last drink. After I seated you I got down on one knee and took my Granny McTavish's diamond ring out of my pocket and opened the case. That's when I asked you to marry me.....and thankfully you said yes even through all those tears.” he replied.
Heather couldn't hold back the tears any longer as she said “Those were tears of pure joy just like these are. James you truly made me the happiest women there ever was.....and still am. You made my life complete.”
James wasn't quite sure what to say at that point as he didn't expect such an emotional response from Heather, then “And you truly are the girl of my dreams.....I don't know what I would do without you....and I don't plan on finding out” he said getting a little chocked up himself.
Heather just smiled at James and threw her arms around him then kissed him for all she was worth. Then she whispered something in his ear and James swooped her up in his arms and they made their way into the bedroom.
