Timeline: Back Post Prior To Start Of This Mission
ON:
After getting cleared for duty, a final dinner with her parents and closing up her house. Cyndi changed into her uniform and together she and Paul returned to the ship. Cyndi headed to the bridge and gathered several PADD's from her yeoman, there was a skeleton crew manning the bridge as the ship was still in orbit. Walking into her office Cyndi took a seat at her desk, logged in and discovered a new officer had joined the ship while she'd been down. Tapping her com-badge "Lieutenant Applegate this is Commodore Song, please report to my office, I'd like to meet you."
Being called by the Commodore suddenly was enough to trigger anxiety in anyone, but Clancy was especially on edge. Meet me? he thought to himself. He was just a junior officer from the engineering department. He never really expected to be summoned by the Commodore. "On my way, Ma'am," he said swiftly in response.
He must have checked his uniform for wrinkles a dozen times in the turbolift. When it reached its destination, he scurried to her door and pressed the chime.
"Come in," Cyndi called out
One more deep breath and a slow exhale, a fleeting attempt at calming his nerves and mellow out his mind's natural anxiety, Clancy stepped forward. The doors swiftly parted for him, unveiling the Commodore's office; A wondrous and nearly mythical place in Clancy's wildest of imagination's. It was not that the Commodore's office was a strange new world or anything, but he had often dreamt about being in a Captain's Ready Room. This was even an elevation to that.
For a young junior officer, this was an experience worthy of taking in once iota at a time. Clancy, however, did not want to make it an awkward experience. This was Cyndi's office after all, not a museum, bizarre, nor menagerie. He came promptly to attention, facing her. "Commodore," he said swiftly and sternly.
"You requested to meet with me, ma'am?" he inquired. It was completely lost on Clancy that his Commanding Officer would ever want to meet with him directly. He was not special, he was not high ranking, and he certainly did not consider himself the least bit important enough for the Commanding Officer to single him out.
"Relax your in no trouble, I try to meet all my new officers. I take it this is the first time you've been in a captain's ready room. Feel free to take a look around," Cyndi offere
Clancy smiled. "That makes you a bit peculiar in my book, Commodore. No offense," the young officer replied. "I've known Captain's to get to know their Department Heads, the Senior Staff, but not someone like me. I'm practically a lower decker except not quite." He did take a brief look around.
"I try to get to know everyone, I like to know who is serving under me and what they're like and if the going gets tough I need to know you'll be there," Cyndi commented.
"That is kind of part of being in the uniform at least I always took it that way...to be there for one another, and especially for the Commanding Officer," replied Clancy. "You can count on me. I am hardworking and very determined to make my time in Starfleet count for something beyond myself."
Cyndi smiled and nodded "That's what I like to hear in my officers. You remind me of me when I joined Starfleet. Keep up that kind of drive and you'll go far,"
Clancy smiled. "Oh thank you," he replied gleefully with a bit of bashfulness. "I take great honor in that. I want to be the best officer that I can be, but I know that I have a lot to learn as long the way."
"We all have a lot to learn, even me," Cyndi commented "You'll get there, it takes hard work and dedication. You have the drive to do it and a good boss to learn from. Don't be afraid to ask questions if your not sure. As I used to tell my students at the academy there is no dumb question."
"But there are dumb situations and circumstances," replied Clancy with a chuckle. "Part of what I am hoping to learn is what to do when I find myself in those sorts of places, and more so how to avoid getting there to begin with." He smiled. "The wisdom of time and experience."
"That it is and you'll learn as you go," Cyndi replied "You'll also learn from your mistakes, I've made my share and still made commodore so aim hi. I'm shooting for admiral."
