Lieutenant James McTavish was in his Office going over some reports when a call came in "Lieutenant you have a call marked personal Sir" Comms stated. "Alright patch it through to my Office" James replied.

Soon a familiar face appeared on the screen "Admiral Pierce what do I owe the pleasure" James queried.

"Lieutenant it's good to see you again. The reason for my call is I have an offer that I would like you to consider" Pierce explained then continued "The Academy is in need of someone to Chair the Space Sciences Department and since you have your FSS in such you are our first choice. Also you would have an opportunity to teach as well along with a healthy pay increase of course."

James was flabbergasted and didn't know quite what to say for a moment "This certainly is quite the surprise to say the least and I'm honored for the consideration" he stated "When do you need an answer."

"I hate to put you in a bind but we would like an answer by sixteen hundred; we need to get the position filled as quickly as possible" Pierce replied.

Then James happened to think "What about my wife Heather....I really don't want us to be apart" he commented.

"Oh yes I nearly forgot Star Fleet's Research and Development Department would like to extend a position to Heather as a researcher; they were very impressed with her Super Chlorophyl project from Savai. She would of course realize a substantial increase in pay as well."

"Let me talk it over with Heather and I will let you know what we decide today, if that's acceptable" James commented.

"Yes of course. I've taken up enough of your time so I'll talk to you later today then. Have a good day. Pierce out" then the screen returned to it's logo.

McTavish sat for a few minutes letting everything sink in and getting everything organized in his mind.

After grabbing a cold water James tapped his Comm "Lieutenant Heather McTavish please report to the CSO's Office right away" he ordered then sat down and drew a deep breath.

A few minutes later Heather peeked into the Office "You wanted to see me Lieutenant" she asked not sure of what was going on.

James looked up and smiled "Yes come in and shut the door behind you and please have a seat."

"Am I in some kind of trouble or something" Heather asked being a little scared of what the answer was going to be.

James grinned "No not at all but there is something that we need to talk about now as it really can't wait" he stated then explained his conversation with Admiral Pierce in great detail. "So what's your thoughts."

Heather sat for a few minutes processing what James had told her "Well that's certainly the last thing that I expected to hear when you called me into your Office" then she paused "As much as I would love to do research full time would you be happy working at the Academy and not being on a Ship?"

"It would be a nice change of pace and maybe it would give us a chance for a somewhat normal life" as he grinned then became very serious "With all that's happened here these past few days....I would hate to think that one of us could end up seriously hurt or worse" he stated.

"Ya and there's that" she commented with a serious tone "So what would you like to do."

James smiled "Heather as long as we can be together it really doesn't make any difference to me where we are or what we're doing" he commented "I say we go for it; if that's what you want too."

"I think that would be a good change for us and like you said as long as we're together" Heather replied with a big smile.

James stood with a smile on his face "Come here you" he said as he took Heather in his arms "I love you....you really are the girl of my dreams" then proceeded to give her a very passionate kiss.

After the kiss Heather stepped back and grinned "Lieutenant I may have to report you for misconduct" she commented with a giggle "I should get back to work" then she turned and left the Office.

James sat down at his Terminal "Comms patch me through to Admiral Pierce at Star Fleet Headquarters" he ordered.

A few minutes later the Admiral appeared on his screen "Lieutenant McTavish I assume you've come to a decision" he said.

"Yes we have Sir.....we've decided to accept your offer to come back to Earth and work at Star Fleet" James replied as he started to get a little excited at the prospect.

"Excellent James. Commodore Song has let Star Fleet know your heading to the nearest Star Base with a recovered Ship so hopefully I'll have transportation waiting for you when you arrive; if not it'll be the next day at the latest; just contact me when you arrive" Pierce explained "And I'll also inform your CO of your decision myself but you may want to touch base with her too."

"Of course that's a given as far as I'm concerned" James replied.

"Good I'll see you and your wife in a few days then and congratulations you've made the right decision; and by the way there'll be a furnished apartment waiting for you when you arrive, Pierce out."

James sat back in his chair as the realization hit home......their lives were about to change in a major way.....hopefully they had made the right decision.....only time would tell.
