#91 - First Of Many

{Deck 5 - Quarters}

Lieutenant Cassandra Zolon woke up at zero five hundred hours quite anxious to start her first day as the new Chief Science Officer.

Cass headed into the shower, then dressed before pulling her hair into a tight pony tail. Checking in the mirror, she was satisfied with her appearance before heading out to the Kitchen for a light breakfast.

After breakfast she grabbed her chocolate milk, another discovery while attending the Academy, and went out and sat at her desk. Cass wasn't pleased where the desk sat in the living area so she would change it this evening after her shift.

Since her first Alpha shift on the Bridge wouldn't start for a few days that would give her plenty of time to meet Command beforehand so now she would concentrate on her Department and the first order of business was to meet the ACSO. With that in mind she pulled up the personal file for Lieutenant Tara Herculoid, PhD. Reading through the file she was quite impressed with this person and was anxious to meet her.

When she was finished Cass shut down and secured her Terminal, grabbed her PADD, which she placed in her right hip pocket, and was out the door.

{CSO's Office}

Reaching her new Office, which was just down the corridor from her residence, Cass changed the security code and entered.

Looking around she saw that it was very neat and tidy as she saw a note on the desk which read "Please check your Terminal for a letter from myself" with the initials JM.

Cassandra sat and brought up the letter which was from the old CSO welcoming her and giving her the necessary pertinent information. The end of the letter read "I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of making sure you were assigned our old Residence since we had been very comfortable there. I would like to wish you all the best in your new assignment. Regards James McTavish."

She sat back in her chair "What a nice gesture....no one has ever done that for me before....he must be a very nice guy" she thought to herself.

Moments later she was snapped back to reality when she heard a knock on her open door. Looking up she saw this rather tall women with Lieutenant pips on her collar. Standing she said with a smile "Please come in Lieutenant and have a seat."

Tara walked in and took the offered seat "Welcome aboard, the commodore requested reports and supply requests and I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of doing them and sending them off to the commodore. There is a copy for you as well."

"Thank you Lieutenant that was very considerate of you, I'll review them later" she replied with a smile "I've read over your personal file and I must say it's very impressive, to sat the least. I also see your the Chief Diplomatic Officer as well." Cass commented.

Tara nodded "I am, but science will always be my first love. Back home I have my own lab as I was working on something and it backfired and put a big hole in the roof of the Palace and needless to say my dad was not happy so he had a lab built for me so I'd blow up my own roof."

Cassandra listened to what Tara had said and picked up on one fact "Palace so are you considered royalty on your home world; just curious" she queried being quite interested hearing that.

Tara nodded "I am, I have signed documentation on file that my title is on hold. I'm the future Queen of my planet. Something that will be many years down the road. I hope this isn't going to be an issue as there are only a handful of people aboard who know. The commodore, her husband, Commander Green, Doctor Long, Captain Rivers and now you. I'd just as soon keep it that way."

Cassandra just grinned "You're secret is safe with me Lieutenant...matter of fact I can relate. I too had to put aside my, for the lack of a better word, title when I joined Star Fleet and no it certainly is not an issue" she commented then continued "It's my understanding that Heather McTavish oversaw the Main Lab here on Deck 5 so now that she's no longer here I would like you to either find a qualified replacement or oversee it yourself. You know the Staff much better than I at the moment."

"I'm glad it's not issue, I felt you needed to know right from the jump," Tara said as she thought for a few minutes "I'll take over the main lab. We have several good officers aboard, but overseeing the main lab is a task for someone well suited for it and I was the department head before Lieutenant James McTavish joined us. His qualifications far out did mine and I accepted the assistant position and it gave me more time for research and my new position as diplomatic chief. I'm up for any challenge you and the commodore get us into."

"Thank you Lieutenant and given your qualifications I can rest assured the job will be done well" she commented "Also anytime you need to get in touch with me please feel free to do so. I'm really not an Office person so I'll only be in here to look over reports or talk to Staff; I'm more of a 'hands on' type of Chief and will be in and out of the Labs often."

"I'll keep that in mind and you will find Lab Ten locked. That's the one the commodore uses, she's an accomplished scientist in her own right and when she's not busy with the ship you can find her in there," Tara said "If it's okay with you, my planet's flag ship is here and I'd like to go home for a week maybe less. If it's not a good time I'll send it on without me," Tara said.

"No, absolutely not.....you should go home and see your family. I'll be fine until you return" Cass stated with a smile "Family is important and I'll be busy touring the Labs anyway."

"Thank you, my mum is the one who brought the ship out here. If you do need me I can be back in twenty four hours," Tara said smiling as well "I've not been home in over a year."

"Lieutenant you go home, enjoy the time with your family, and please don't give this place a thought" Cass replied "We all need time to recharge ourselves."

"Thank you!" Tara said the excitement clear in her voice "I owe you."

"You're welcome....think nothing of it."Cass replied noticing Tara's excitement as she stood "It was very nice to meet you Lieutenant Tara Herculoid and I'm looking forward working together."

"Likewise and please call me Tara," standing as well offering her hand.

Cassandra shook her hand "Safe travels Tara and please call me Cass; I will see you when you get back.....now go and have some fun."

Tara turned and left the Office. Cass sat as she thought "I think we're going to get along quite well" which put a smile on her face then brought up the reports that Tara had done reading each one of them carefully.

A few hours later Cassandra brought up McTavish's letter and grabbing her PADD made a few notes as to the location of each Lab and who was in charge of each one.

When finished Cass secured her Terminal and headed for the door "Computer lights off" as the Office went dark then secured the door.

Tomorrow would be another busy day as she headed down the corridor to her new home.
