#18 Nothing, So Far

Posted on Wed Feb 15th, 2023 @ 10:15am by Captain Rogue Green {Meji} & Major Jackson "JJ" Barnes {Meji} & Lieutenant JG Ainkara "Kara" {Meji}

Mission: Vanished
Location: starbase
Timeline: current

ON:

The first two had materialised on the starbase; Chief Barnes and Cadet Ainkara. They broke apart, weapons at the ready, to do a complete visual check of the OPS deck, or command deck, for the starbase. Everything was in order, nothing out of place. No half-empty cups of coffee or half eaten food items. Clean and pristine as if the crew simply got up and left of their own accord.

"Ainkara, begin your scans," ordered Barnes. "I want this damn EVA suit off ASAP."

"Aye, Sir." Doing as she was told Ainkara began to use her own tricorder, not accessing any base systems just yet. As the other marines began to beam in Ainkara would glance their way to make sure it was them, but kept her eyes mainly on her readouts.

Barnes had contacted USS Euphrates and ordered his people to begin to beam over while the Cadet was scanning. Kevin jacobs walked up to him.

"Chief, you want me to head for engineering?" Asked Jacobs.

"I do," Barnes replied. "Grab two marines and the Cadet and head down. Access the computer core and try and get some answers. If we can't find anything maybe Lieutenant Zolon can once we get her over here. Get 'er done, Kevin."

Jacobs broke away and gathered two marines.

Ainkara approached Jack. "There are no known contagions in the air, and the air itself is perfectly fine. Life support is working accordingly."

"Do you think it's safe to remove the suits, Cadet?" Barnes asked.

"I don't see why not, Chief. If these people were taken, suits won't make a difference if it happens to us, too." Ainkara gave him a blank look.

"I see your point," Jack replied, a slight grin forming as he looked to the others. "Alright, people. Air quality is good. Shuck and redress." Thankfully, each of them had brought vacuum packed backpacks with their standard uniform items within. While three stood watch the others began to remove their suits and redress in their standard away gear. Out of respect the men kept their eyes in neutral places while doing so, even though it was tough with Ainkara, given that she wore very tiny underthings. Even the other women gave looks to each other as the vulcanoid woman redressed in an all white catsuit with proper Starfleet regalia on it (bio pic 6).

After changing and re-gearing everyone was ready. Jacobs took Ainkara and his other two and departed for engineering. The rest began to check out the various stations around OPS. Barnes stood at the tactical post. The automated distress beacon had come on after the alotted amount of time when the computer did not detect any living personnel aboard via the internal sensors. That meant that when it had come on the crew was already long gone. The computer was following its programming, to alert Starfleet that there was a problem. Taking out his flip-top comm he opened it and placed it on the console's high back. "Barnes to Amandora."

Green's voice came through. "Commander Green here, Chief. Report."

"Well, Commander, it seems that the computer activated the automated distress beacon, not the crew. According to what I know that means the crew had been missing for an alotted amount of time leaving the computer no choice but to call for help." Jack stood easy, his marines watching the lifts for any unexpected arrivals. "Air quality is fine, no contagions or chemicals of any kind. We've dressed down to standard away gear."

"I see," Green responded. Over on Amandora she ahd her arms crossed over her chest, rubbing her chin as she ran things through her mind. "No personnel of any kind have been found?"

"Not yet, Commander." Barnes had just began to access the Security station. With the distress beacon activated, and his ident codes recognized, the computer would allow access to a system he normally would not be allowed to get into. "This is a big place, Sir. Any physical searches could take weeks, no matter how many boots we have on site. Internal sensors do detect animal life from various labs and the arboretum, but nothing else, so far."

Absorbing the information Green gave a nod to herself. "Keep at it, Mister Barnes. We'll have more join you soon enough. Until then, stay alert and be safe. Amandora, out." The channel closed.

Barnes reached out and took up his communicator, closing it and putting it away. Doing as ordered he continued to access the systems to see that was what.
