Cyndi had been going over reports, repair stats, you name it. Seeing one for Ro caught her eye, opening it she read it and smiled it was about time. Command took their own sweet time on things. Tapping her com-badge "Commander Green please report to the ready room we have some things to discuss,"
Ro Green heard the summons over the speakers as she had been chatting with Mister Resch in regards to power allocation and the damage to systems station-wide. Excusing herself she then went to the Ready Room entrance, the door opening as it detected her for the summons. Entering, Commander Green was casually official, having served with the Commodore for some time now. She spoke as she approached the guest side of the CO's desk here on Danvers. "Good morning, Cyndi," she said in a lighthearted tone. Stopping, she added to her greeting. "What do we need to discuss, Commodore?"
"Several things Ro, please have a seat." Cyndi said "First off I want to express my deepest condolences on the loss of your family and Nira whom I adored. Secondly I put in a request for you several months ago and you know how well headquarters lies to drag their feet."
"The only thing more confusing than a bureaucracy is bureaucracy itself." Green gave a light giggle. "Sorry, a quote I heard once. But, yes, all those lost will be missed. If not for my Meji training I would probably still be a mess. I will feel it for months to come, but I have to bury it or it will consume me and make me into something I don't want to be." She then softened a bit and sat down on the edge of the seat for a guest chair, her posture showing she was not going to sit idle for very long. "I appreciate your words, Cyndi, very much. Thank you."
"Your very welcome, not onto other matters, I put in a request to have you promoted to captain as a commander serving under a commodore is a tad low, so that said it's finally come through. It's with the highest honor I promote you to the rank of captain with all the privileges it comes with it," Cyndi had been holding the rank box in her lap and she slid it across to her. "Congratulations."
As Song spoke, saying what she had to to introduce the moment, Green watched as she took the pip/pin box and placed it on the desk top and slid it over to the edge of the desk near to Green. In those few moments Ro had been both surprised and elated that she had made captain. It was a day she had been long expecting, but had given up believing it would ever come. She removed her Commander pips and set them in the desk, taking up the box and opening it. Without grandeur she then placed the pin correctly on her collar, putting the commander pin within the box and getting up. Going to the refuse bin for the replicator system she tossed it inside before walking back over to stand behind the chair she had previously been sitting on. She held the back of the chair and slightly leaned forward on them as she gave a crooked grin. "Thank you, Cyndi. I know this promotion would not have been possible without your approval. We have been together a long time and I look forward to many more adventures together."
"As do I," Cyndi sighed and shook her head, "My dear friend and mentor Admiral Hank Snow has officially retired and has left the base for Earth to debrief command on what has happened. I don't know who at this point is getting command here all I know is it's not me. And to be honest I don't want a base command. I belong in space. My new ship has be commissioned and is on her way here, when it's due to arrive I don't know. I'd like you to stay here as captain of engineering to repair the base. That is if you want to?"
Captain Green gave a big smile at that. "I would relish it. I so miss being a Chief Engineer for a starship or base. But, with this," she tapped her new collar device. "Comes the responsibility for attaining that promotion. I love my job, no matter what I'm doing." Another light laugh came forth. "Danvers needs dedicated officers to get it back in shape. If you will allow, I have a list of people I would like to come over from Amandora while we are repairing." Green, along with a few other engineers, had improved a system on starships and got their names in the Starfleet Engineering history books (footnote in Green's bio). Now, to see to the rebuilding and repairing of an entire installation, that was what being a Starfleet officer was all about. Ro took up a PADD and listed the people she thought would be best for the workload (all of my/Sean PC's while I move). "We'll effort to get things under wraps ASAP, then get our butts back to home."
Cyndi took the PADD and read it and nodded "I have no problem with them. I do want to stress that yes your captain of engineering here but not of the base. You run into anything contact me. I'm taking a few days and am going home. I've not been there in well over a year possibly two and I need a break, we all do. I took the heat from command for the ship being destroyed and after reports were sent in I'm cleared of all charges. Repairs to places on the planet are underway that was damaged. The other planets in the system were unaffected by all of this and they don't know about it. I'd like to keep it that way," she handed her a communicator "This is linked directly to me. You won't have to go through the Klavorian sub-space channels."
Ro took the offered PADD from her friend and boss, sliding it into place on her Meji equipment belt. She still had not changed into her Starfleet uniform, wearing her Meji duds with all Starfleet goodies applied where they should should be. "Danvers includes all facilities, up here and down there. Also, if anyone asks I will not lie. Should another world ask me personally what happened I will be discrete but the truth will be spoken. If not, that's how corruption starts." She waved that off since she had said it plainly and without emotion. Just a fact that needed to be voiced. "I'll be busy, but should anything arise that I need to speak with you about then I will call you personally. Always good to avoid admin comm controllers." Another giggle.
"You have no idea," Cyndi agreed "Right now I have the station marked under repairs do not approach, when the new commanding officer arrive he or she will remove the buoy or I will when I get word the new ship is here."
"That sounds good, and reasonable." Green said. "I have some Federation Council members coming out to speak with me on a matter unrelated to Danvers. Well...not the starbase, anyway. The ruins on the islands just off the main coast." Having said that Ro moved on from that. Alright, Commodore," she gave a silly salute and a light raspberry towards the Commodore. "I should get to it, then. Need anything I'm just a comm call away." Another smile.
"Likewise," Cyndi reminded her "My shuttle is in the landing bay and as soon as I tie up a few loose ends I'm going home. I don't want you to over do it either, you need grief time."
Ro's face was still lighthearted but having it once again thrust into her face caused her to have to call on her Control and remain centered. The eyes hardened a bit, but otherwise she was fine. "I plan to pour myself into work and duty. I will not allow myself to be sucked into Helsinki Syndrome." She could feel herself about to go on a polite rant but held it back. "I should get going. I have minions to collect." She gave a weak grin.
Cyndi sensing she'd said something wrong nodded "I understand understand Ro."
Green made to turn away and stopped, her face turning even as her body still faced the door. "It's not you, Cyndi." Through the Core and her Sense ability Ro had felt that twinge from the Commodore. "I know I have to be prepared for condolences sent my way. It just reminds me of what I already know. My way of dealing is to push it away and cage it up. Without the Meji and the Amandora, I have nothing. I am nothing. But," she waved that off casually, trying to sound more chipper than her eyes denoted. "I'll see you later, Cyndi. I need to get things in order. If you'll excuse me." Not wanting to discuss her own sorrows any further and wanting to focus on something positive, Captain Green strode out of the office.
Cyndi watched her go, signed the final reports and filed them. Home was sounding better all the time. Her crew had suffered plenty. Getting up from the desk Cyndi headed for the guest quarters to pack
