Cyndi walked into the kitchen her parents were already up. Cyndi had dressed in a soft green dress that was ankle length, she was barefoot and for a change had painted her toenails something she seldom did. “Good morning.”
“Good morning sleepy head,” Drew said getting up and pouring his daughter a cup of coffee and gave her, her favorite homemade cinnamon roll, complete with plump raisins and frosting.
Cyndi poured milk in her coffee and then picked up the cup and took a sip, looking at the roll she looked to her dad “Thank you, I’ve not had one of your homemade rolls since my last leave time,” Cyndi picked up the jar of peanut butter and put some on the cinnamon roll and took a bite, after chewing it and swallowing it smiled “I can never make them like you do, thank you.”
“Did you sleep well?” Tasha asked
“I did,” Cyndi said “You know I was not sure about Starfleet when I left home to join but I’m glad mum you encouraged it. I love what I do and I don’t have any regrets, well two regrets.”
“What are those honey?” Tasha asked
“That the kids aren’t with me, but after what happened to my ship I’m glad they’re not with me,” Cyndi commented “That’s why the kids are safer here where I know they’re safe.”
“I don’t know what we’d have done had you or Paul had been on the ship when it blew,” Drew said
“There have been times Cyndi when I’ve regretted encouraging you to join Starfleet, this is one of them,” Tasha remarked
“Mum I’m glad you did, had I not joined I’d not have met Paul and you and dad would not have two wonderful grandkids. I talk to the kids all the time on subspace , I come home as often as I can. I adore my kids and wish they could be with me full time. But the Amandora being blown up is one reason why they’re both safer here.”Cyndi commented “But you both did the right thing, Starfleet and my training will aide me in becoming Queen one day. I’ll be better suited to lead our people when that time comes.”
That honey won’t be for a good number of years,” Drew said “Will you get another ship?”
“I don’t know dad, Starfleet frowns highly on ships being destroyed, but had I been on it when this happened I’d have done the exact same thing my officers did. They saved countless lives and I’m very proud of them. I sent my report in along with the reports from my officers verifying there was no other choice,” Cyndi said “Let me cook supper tonight, I want to make the kids their favorite supper and desert.” Cyndi fought to keep more tears from falling as she thought about the lives lost on the ship even if they were mercenaries and then the innocent lives lost on the planet and the starbase. Not saying anything Cyndi got up from the table and nearly ran from the Palace
Tasha started to get up only to have Drew hold her arm “She needs to be alone right now,” Drew said “Let her unwind. She cares deeply and this has been hard on her. Loss of lives, both friends and foe, destroyed ship. She'll be okay but she needs to grieve.”
Tasha nodded "Your right."
