Post Number 14 Welcome Aboard

Posted on Tue Sep 8th, 2020 @ 11:14am by Commodore Cyndi Song & Major David Hurd Senior

Mission: Star Base Mercury

OFF:

Please welcome our new officer. Captain David Hurd. He's taking over as the Marine Commanding Officer. Carlos AKA Captain Redex has been sick and is unsure if he's going to be able to return. Let's show Captain Hurd how friendly the Amandora is!

ON:

"Commodore, we're getting a transmission, the new Marine Commander has arrived and is requesting permission to board," communications announced

"Permission granted,I'll meet him in transporter room one," Cyndi said getting up and heading for the transporter room.

Captain Hurd received permission to beam aboard, and did just so a few moments later. Stepping down off platform, the Chief said, " The Commodore is on her way down sir". Hurd nodded, sat his bag down, and waited.

Cyndi walked in a few minutes later "Captain I'm sorry if I've kept you waiting. I'm Commodore Song. Welcome aboard," Cyndi said offering her hand.

Snapping to attention and saluting, David extended his hand and shook hers. "Captain David Allen Hurd reporting for duty ma'am". Pausing for a slight moment he continued, "I've heard many great things about your ship in general, and you in particular Commodore, which is why i requested this posting".

"Thank you captain, I wasn't aware my reputation preceded me," Cyndi commented "It's good to have an officer of your qualification aboard. Let's get you settled."

"Aye Ma'am", David said picking up his bag off the deck. "This is a fine ship you have here,I must say the Galaxy Class has always held a certain, I guess you would call it awe for me".

"The Galaxy Class is a solid ship," Cyndi agreed as she led the way out of the transporter room "The ship also carries a fighter wing, but then if your like most officers assigned to a new ship you already know this. The fighter commander is Captain Porter."

"Good to know, his reputation proceeds him as well", Hurd said as they walked. "It's always good to have solid fighter cover for the ship, and to be honest it will be nice for a change to have decent ground support", Hurd said, pushing back unpleasant memories in his head. "My last ground action was a absolute slaughter, lost over 175 men due to the lack of just that- air cover".

"That sadly happens more than you know. I was many years ago on a ship where we were attacked by a very fierce foe and nearly lost the ship because of it. We had no marines or fighters and the ship had more holes in it, it resembled swiss cheese. Lost nearly all the crew. Only a handful survived. The enemy got away and I've not seen them since nor do I want to," Cyndi said

"I wouldn't either", Hurd said. "But now you have us, and this I vow,my Marines will protect and fight for this ship until our last breath if that's what it takes to keep the Crew safe".

"Of that I have no doubt," Cyndi replied "I also don't believe in leaving anyone behind. I'll scan a planet, space you name it until everything is exhausted until I find the missing officer. I'll even disobey orders to do so."

Cracking a wry smile, Hurd said, "Ma'am, I have done so several times myself". "We Marines leave no one behind, everyone, living and dead comes back from a mission". Stepping into a turbolift, Hurd asked, Marine Ops in on deck 17, section 21-Baker am I right?"

Cyndi nodded "Your right, I see you've done your homework," the command for the marine deck was given and the lift started to move.

"Yes ma'am, it seemed only prudent to do", Hurd replied as the turbolift was moving. Contemplating for a moment, he asked, "Ma'am, when I'm on duty, usually wearing my body armour and I'm armed, is that ok?".

"I have no problem with it, security is armed as am I. My weapon is concealed but I'm always armed," Cyndi said

"Sounds good", David replied giving a faint smile. "So what's our next mission?", he asked softly.

"Funny you should ask. We're docked at a brand new Star Base called Mercury. We've been charged with assisting the base personal in getting things set up over there. Each department has assignments. I almost had to assign this to you as you've not had a chance to meet your officers. But that being said I'd like you once your settled and have had a chance to meet your officers go over to the Mercury and assist the marine commander over there. You can if so desired take some of your marines over there to train with the marines on the base," Cyndi replied "I'm going to be going over to work with the base captain and assist my science chief with the science department over there."

Nodding, Hurd said, "Orders received and understood, but if I may make a request, that being after I meet my Officers here might I be able to take the rest of the day off?". Continuing he said, "It was quite a long journey here plus I'd like to get to know the ship and crew better".

"By all means captain, I didn't expect you to do it today," Cyndi replied as the lift stopped, Cyndi stepped out. "I've kept your arrival a secret from them. I won't promise what you'll walk into."

As they walked into Marine Ops, Hurd nodded, "That's excellent". Looking around he saw that none of the Marines milling about were paying them any mind, and a wry smile spread across his face as he said, "Watch this". Bellowing as loud as he could, Hurd said, "Attention on Deck!!!". As one, every Marine present stopped what they were doing, turned to face Hurd and the Commodore, stood to attention, and saluted, leaving the room silent.

Cyndi hid the smile she so wanted to show. "At ease everyone. This is your new commanding officer, Captain David Hurd. You all know Captain Redex has fallen ill and Captain Hurd has been sent here to take over for Redex. I expect you all to follow his orders to the letter," Cyndi informed them "Captain Redex will be leaving the ship and will go to Starfleet Medical for further treatment."

Hurd looked each Marine in the eye. They looked the part but only time would tell if they acted the same way. A rousing chorus of "Aye Ma'am!!! followed the Commodores statement as David turned back to her and said, "Looks like a good bunch". Contemplating a moment he said, " Ma'am, if there is nothing else I'd like to get settled in".

Cyndi nodded "By all means. I leave you to get settled. Would you like me to dismiss them or do you wish to?"

"You can dismiss them ma'am", Hurd said nodding his head.

Cyndi turned to face the marines "Your dismissed." The marines promptly saluted both of them again before returning to what they had been doing "Get some rest captain your tired and as you said it was a long way out here."
