Post Number 22 Going To Starfleet Medical

Posted on Mon Sep 14th, 2020 @ 9:31am by Commodore Cyndi Song

Mission: Star Base Mercury
Location: Sick Bay

ON:

Cyndi was still concerned regarding Captain Redex, he was still in status after the spider bite. A shuttle was at the Mercury and depending on his condition Cyndi wanted to send him to Earth and Starfleet Medical for more treatment. Not that her CMO was not good, he was but there were just things that Starfleet Medical could handle better than a starship. Cyndi walked into sick bay and looked for Tore.

Doctor Bjorgo, having already checked on Redex, now stood just outside his office door, facing into Sickbay as he read from a PADD. When the doors opened and closed and in walked the Commodore he tapped his palm PADD off and slid it into his thigh pocket. "Good afternoon, Commodore. What can we do for you today?"

"Captain Redex, has there been any change in his condition?" Cyndi asked "He's been in status for some time now."

Bjorgo's eyes hardened slightly, with a touch of sadness. If there was one thing he hated it was being stumped on an issue, especially when lives hung in the balance. Another part of his Augment personality; failure was shameful. "I'm afraid not, Commodore. We have him in stasis, stopping any further advance of the toxin. However, it is an extremely potent neurotoxin and seems to be affecting his synaptic pathways. My hands are tied. I can do nothing further with the facilities we have aboard this ship."

Cyndi nodded "That's what I thought doctor. There is a shuttle at the Mercury that is a medical shuttle. I've spoken to Captain Leaf the CO of the Mercury and the shuttle is scheduled to leave for Earth in a few hours. I'd like to transfer Captain Redex to that shuttle and then have it take him to Starfleet Medical on Earth. What are your thoughts on it?" Cyndi asked the sadness clear in her voice

Bjorgo looked at her. "It's out of my hands aboard ship, Cyndi. If he has a chance for survival then Starfleet Medical is the best option. Plus, it will free up an ICU bed here in my Sickbay."

"I thought you'd say that and I'd just have had him moved but as Chief Medical Officer you have the final say. How long will it take you to have him ready for departure?" Cyndi asked.

"He's ready now," answered Tore. "The shuttle crew can move him on a grav gurney to the shuttle, then put him in a stasis tube for the voyage to Earth. All my notes and procedures have been set on this PADD," he picked one up off of the foot of Redex's bed, then set it back down. "They should have no issues with keeping him alive."

"I'll let them know," Cyndi "Hopefully they can find a cure for this. You've done an outstanding job. I'll get science on this too. Thank you doctor for what you've managed to do so far." Cyndi tapped her com-badge to let the base medical shuttle know they could come pick up Captain Redex.

Tore gave a nod of acknowledgement as the Commodore began to walk away while on the comm. He had done what he could but it was out of his hands now. He watched his CO leave before going back to work.

Cyndi walked back to Tore knowing he had work to do "They'll be here to get Redex within the hour. Do you want to oversee his departure?"

Bjorgo gave her another nod. "As CMO, it is the honorable thing to do. Thank you, Commodore."

"Your welcome doctor, I'll let you get him ready for transport. I'm just sorry we couldn't help him," Cyndi commented looking at Captain Redex then back to Tore "I feel like I've failed him. Brand new ship, top of the line in everything, the best CMO in the fleet and we have to send him off ship to save his life."

"I almost sent Counselor Raymond with him." Admitted Bjorgo. "Her sapling pregnancy was almost too much to handle. But, with H'iri's help, we've managed a medical regimen."

"I still don't understand that one," Cyndi admitted. "The scientist in me is curious while the commanding officer of this ship is concerned over this. H'iri is a good doctor. I'll let you get Captain Redex ready and thank you for taking the time to talk to me."

"No problem, Commodore." Tore was done with Redex and just wanted him off his ship so he could focus on other things. "You two," he said, waving over a couple of his subordinates. "Keep him warm and move him to the shuttlebay. Keep tabs on his vitals. Nothing major should happen but, we can never be too careful. Once he's gone, take the rest of the day for yourselves."

Both of the young women thanked him as they began to prep the patient for moving.
