Mission:
Star Base Mercury
Location: Holodeck One
Timeline: Current
[ON]
"Computer load informatics of standard saucer separation mechanics algorithms. USS Amandora, Galaxy Class starship. Relevant scenario, forecasts, mission data were cross-referencing and analyze the new scenario. Edit and rework for a relevant simulation, please, mate." Brian had ordered the Holodeck One main computer to work up a scenario for a saucer separation.
=^= Working…=^= The Holodeck Main computer had initiated the requested programming.
The situation would be played out due to past missions' current real-time analytics and cross-reference with star charts and navigational outcomes. This would be the basis for a realistic program to exhibit environmental changes and challenges.
Chief of the Helm, Brian Hastings, ensured that the ship and crew would be akin to a saucer separation. Having had no recent usage of the technique, he would be advised to run a few scenarios and see how the Amandora would perform. He was confident that the situation and the outcomes would be successful. It was a matter of performing a rarely performed task.
Having had called a few backup personnel to assist him in the holodeck on the main bridge mock-up, Brian had called on Lieutenant JG Kelliza Kahn, Lieutenant Tore Bjorgo, and Captain David Hurd. These senior officers had no crew duties for hours. Hastings was able to work the simulation and was interested in going for a "saucer ride."
=^= Simulation Analytics Completed. Program sequence to initiate on request. Time Program Index 0-00:43 Minutes. =^=
=^= Computer assemble scenario. Main Bridge, USS Amadora. Set mark. =^= Lieutenant Brian Hasting's had then looked around the Galaxy-class bridge. He was amazed at the photons and the technology, even though it was considered decades old.
He turned and sat his behind to the sizeable sweeping railing made of wood veneer and crossed his arms as he awaited the other requested officers to arrive. If they had wanted to or not, he had not received any word back from them. He looked at his silver time wrist chronometer and then at the turbo lift doorway.
Hurd had not even bothered to reply. Instead, he made his way down to the Holodeck. Walking in, he asked, "What can I do for you Leiutenant?"
"Hurd, Sir. Since your the first Capt." Hastings had gave a salute, and stood up from the bridge rail.
"Please take the command, I will need to see things through from the the CONN and Helm. We need to run a scenario, any scenario involving a saucer separation and run through it. How we work here, we will generate future analytics for a procedure."
"Very well, I now have Command", Hurd said as he sat down in the center chair. "Any ideas you want to throw in?"
“Right.” Brian held his hand up as he then punched in a few commands into the computer. He then walked down the main bridge to take the Helm.
Just then, he turned. “Uh. We may have a problem, Captain.” He waited. There was silence as they both heard the holodecks computer run through the scenario in its linguistic command chirps.
Hurd was about to say something to him. He could see his confusion.
“Wait for a mom-“ He was then cut off by the Bridges central Engineering console.
A cacophony of alerts had begun to sound. “Sir!” Hastings swivelled in his helm seat. “I’m reading a stress fracture breach in Engineering core containment. There is now a warp core breach, containment is at 43% and failing. Estimated core breach in…” He calculated the computer readouts from the main engineering. “Exactly 14.5 minutes.”
“Suggestions, Captain?” He then held his two fists together and then began to separate the two repeatedly.
"Sound evacuation alarm, get the crew to the saucer section, and make ready to intimate saucer separation".
“Aye, Captain.”
After a few seconds, Sick Bay, Engineering, Lower Decks and Science, Crew Quarter’s Masters all began to chime in their acknowledgement of the automated situation. “Sounding evacuation alerts now. All deck masters are reporting in their acknowledgement.”
"Warp core is entering a criticality." Replied one of the automated sim officers staged at the aft Engineering, we have less than six minutes!"
"2/3 of the crew has already evacuated." The Ops sim officer informed. "Shall I begin emergency site to site beam outs for the stranglers sir?" The Ensign had asked Captain Hurd.
Hurd nodded and said, "Proceed, link all cargo, personell, and shuttle transporters together if you have to, but get those people off, now!!"
Bjorgo and Kahn entered the Bridge simulation, both apologizing for their tardiness...duty called.
Kahn went over to the engineering station. "Preparing separation sequence. Inputting command overrides now, as Chief of Security."
Bjorgo had gone to the standing SCI II console, adjusting the station for his own use within moments. "All personnel have made it to the Primary Hull, Sir. No one alive has been left behind, Captain." Tore hated these things. Any simulation showing the horror of death and radiation poisoning was distasteful to him, no matter how needed they were. It put him on edge, and being what he was, that could be volatile.
“Starboard computers report that the core is sealed off and is ready for umbilical separation.” Hastings had reported at his Helm.
“I am preparing separation procedures. Codes are locking in and confirming.” Just then, the simulation reported that SFI and EPS systems were now transferred and intact to the saucers internal operations. “Undocking pylons are retracting, engaging impulse engine T+5 degrees,” Hastings said.
Liza maintained the Engineering station. The memories provided by Kahn, and the few times symbiont/host had been an engineer, gave her the skills and knowledge to do so. "Starboard maneuvering thruster 15 is showing a variance." Tapping on another monitor in her immediate vicinity she brought up the thruster and its operation parameters. "Running a bypass." Liza did just that, seeing the power increase and stabilize. "Good to go, Sir."
Bjorgo manned his station, reading sensor telemetry, but also looking to the parameters for the hull plates and hardpoints on the ship. He had a few ideas emerge as he played out this little scenario with the others.
"Engaging full impulse and thrusters." Hastings was worried as to how long they had to get away from the stardrive implosion with these speeds.
Kahn watched the readouts, seeing the impulse drive operating at 100%. Bjorgo came in next to her, a little closer than professionalism allowed, but it was both subtle and slight.
"Why is the ventilation system called up?" Bjorgo spoke in a low, non-invasive tone, grinning as he poked the bear.
Liza rolled her eyes and gave him a sultry glance. "Because, I need to know how to release a gas capable of seducing and enslaving all the males, who in turn will cage the females. Who in turn will be sold for profit and make me filthy rich, at which time I disappear and live the life." She arched her eyebrows as she looked over at him, the bluish glow from the monitors enhancing her already sexy appearance. "Satisfied?"
"Not yet," he chuckled. "That monitor was up when you stepped up, wasn't it?"
"Yep," she said.
He now understood why he had gotten the long story full of sarcasm and cynicism. She didn't, and hadn't, called up the ventilation system. Which, he already knew. A personal joke between them. "Captain, we are at minimum safe distance for core breach, with 17 seconds until we reach safe distance."
"There is a fluctuation in the impulse phase coils, I don't understand." Brian had worked his console, turning his head back to the Engineering and Captain. "Increasing power to compensate, we may blow out the deuterium modifiers, but that's for later worries." He questioned, as he then compensated the helm.
Hurd nodded, and said aloud, "Launch shuttles and have them tractor us at maximum speed away from the stardrive section." "They, coupled with our own propulsion, should put us at least double the safe distance when the core explodes".
"Sir." Hastings had calculated little time for the shuttle bay teams to scramble in to the shuttles and crafts, few having powerful enough tractor beams to begin. With 17 seconds till core breach.
"Shuttles Fairfax, Integra and Vista will not be able to make it out before the core breaches in mere seconds." He stated hesitantly.
"Damn", Hurd said. "Alright, maximum power to structural integrity fields, inertial dampeners and shields", Hurd said. Standing, he hit his combadge and said, "Hurd to all hands, brace for impact."
Bjorgo had listened to what was going on. When Hurd gave the orders Tore gave a perturbed face. "To blazes with that." Striding over to Flight Control Bjorgo located what he needed after a fraction of time to see how the console was laid out. Reaching over the Helm's shoulder he activated all the aft maneuvering thrusters, the saucer now moving at best possible speed. He turned away and looked to Hurd. "Captain, it's space, not the ocean. There is no weight. Once we get up to speed we will maintain it without need for engines. And, look." He reached down again and added a monitor section on the main viewer, over the window in the top right hand corner. "Amandora will clear the radius with two seconds to spare. We'll get rumbling and heavy vibration, but no lasting damage."
Liza had watched Tore as he had strode away. Now, after his little stunt, the ship was moving. It added another level of her want to get to know the man. They had already brought the alien sarcophogus aboard, with Bjorgo heading the research team, and this little exercise needed to be done with.
Hurd narrowed his eyes as the man walked away. He was not used to having his orders questioned, nor did he appreciate it or the tone in which the had been. Trying to keep his voice cool, he said, "Computer, pause scenario". Looking at the Leiutenant, he said, in a stern voice tinged with anger, "Leiutenant Bjorgo, if you EVER question my orders again, or take that smug, smartass attitude, I will have you brought up on charges, busted down in rank, and I promise you, you will be scrubbing plasma conduits the rest of your carrear in Starfleet, do I make myself explicitly clear?"
"Understood, Sir." Bjorgo returned to his station. There were ways to get this saucer moving without engines or tractor beams, and to supply it with warp capability. However, he had overstepped, and he owned that. But, as the Chief Medical Officer, it was his duty to try and save all their lives, career be damned.
Lieutenant JG Brian Hastings, at the Helm, was astonished. In the middle of a simulation, one that the Commodore had agreed he should run with others. While Brian was happy that everyone was there, he sure didn’t expect the teamwork and unprofessionalism the Doctor worked to change up his Helm.
The Doctor then re-engage essentially the same thrusters Brian already had working. Did he listen, nor understand that the saucer was already at full capacity in speeds? As a seasoned helm officer for plenty of vessels, he already was working the simulation, yet Brian felt astonished.
Did the Doctor understand or even know his name? Probably not, or he would have known that the thrusters were already at full specs. The phase coils were the only issue that was compensated, as stated.
Hastings didn’t say anything. He felt his position completely disrespected from the unprofessionalism and lack of teamwork or listening.
“Continued course and analytics, Captain.” He held on to his now haphazardly changed console. “Brace for impact!”
"Boom," said Liza, under her breath.
"Holy Hell", Hurd muttered as he sat back down quickly. He was gripping the armrests of the Command Chair so tightly his knuckles were turning white while he waited for the shockwave to slam into the saucer.
Bracing for impact, the general call across the saucer section was heard on all coms. Holding the sides of the Helm, Hastings did his best to manage the shock wave and the course of the vectoring axis and plotted course and speeds at the best output. The scenario was an authentic one to contend with. There would be damage. There would be injuries; everyone would need to work together.
Just then, the wave broadsided the saucer section. The explosion from the warp breach was a gigantic all-encompassing cloud of antimatter and matter reacting deadly. They didn't have time to see the stardrive's rear being encompassed and exploding into micro shrapnel.
Throwing off his balance and hitting the helm panel in front of him, the whole ship frame had shuddered internally. The power flickered, as did panels from the aft and sides sparked with overloads of energy. "Holy Shit!!!!" Hastings shouted as the various explosions deafened his voice. Despite this, the ship's systems would handle themselves until theoretical help was to arrive.
Liza had held onto the "oh shit" handle welded in place on the hull brace. It was right next to her work station and meant for such events. Once that first roiling passed she stood tall and checked readouts. "Main power still online," she coughed a few times caused by the acrid smoke and dust in the air. "Running bypasses for damaged hardware."
Bjorgo had held firm to the standing SCI II console until the wave passed. He tapped his badge. "Computer, Bjorgo. Site to site to Sickbay." He vanished in the transporter signal.
Hastings had turned back to Captain Hurd. "Sir. I am not certain that this computer scenario would have a systemic trial. As in a fully simmed Sick Bay in duress right now. I only programed for the bridge?" He was confused.
"I think we have enough analytics right now with a saucer separation with a core breach incident." He didn't want to anger the Captain as he had wanted to show full respect to the Marine".
"Well all, good job." "Now I understand we have some issues going on, so at a time, please explain in detail what they are".
“Starboard thrusters are offline. The navigational computer is offline. Secondary systems are in operation.” Hastings had checked through his helm computer. There were several errors. Many flashing reds could be circumvented for the time being.
“Internal dampeners are holding at 71%. Back up power reserves are depleted, Sir.” Brian reported.
"Re-route power from anywhere you can get it", Hurd commanded. "Life Support, holodecks, replicators, I don't care, just get more power to the dampeners!!!".
"Aye, Sir." Brian had feverishly pulled up his schematics on his console. The fact that they had a few participants in the sim, he had to work in the Ops response to redirecting resources. Hastings was confident as he re-directed the allotted power from disengaging many of the systems which would not be needed in a crisis.
"Power reserves are returning to optimal efficiency, for now." He reported. "Containment fields on decks 05 and 06 are stabilizing." He reported the damage from the shockwave to the aft saucer hull.
With that, all had agreed that the simulation had completed, and their reports would be sent back to the Commodore recommendations and all.
