Mission:
Star Base Mercury
Location: Main Engineering / Commodore's Ready Room
Timeline: Current
[Main Engineering]
Lieutenant Saunders was busy working through a level four diagnostic of the EPS mainframe. There was nothing out of the ordinary that would explain the excessive power spikes on the holodeck accident.
“Even with the safeties off. I don’t understand how this could have happened.” Stated Lieutenant JG Clinton.
“You see, I think if there was a redundant trip to the EPS main, it should have been registered at the E-T-1109 variance level. Yet, that system shows up as a repeater matrix.” Damien thumbed over the pool table.
“A repeater variance only constricts to the level of the actual stagnation climax.” Ensign Humphrey’s shrugged and looked over the pool table as well. She then pointed to a section that was then pulled up to reveal a cross-examination.
“What the hell is that?” Saunders furrowed his brow. He leaned in closer.
“Hahaha. You said Climax.” Clinton shot a look at Humphreys.
“Yeah, something you never delivered to anyone before.” Humphreys gave a slighted smirk at Clinton.
“Wait, Humphreys. That is a cascade manipulator. Why would that be there?” Damien circled the item identification marker on the pool table. The cascade manipulator was a small variance repeater that, in theory, would allow for an overload if timed just right.
“The timing on that thing would have to be…” She shrugged. “Well, perfect for an overload.”
“True.” Clinton folded his forearms and leaned in more. “Although, how could the overload of EPS discharge have been directed?”
“I don’t know. But it is something we need to let the Commodore know.” Humphrey’s stated.
“Computer. Who was the last personnel in the Jeffries tube sector… A-0109?” Saunders had asked.
=^= Personnel Error 909. Unidentified. =^= The main engineering computer replied.
“That is the first time I heard that response come from our main.” Clinton furrowed his brow. “That’s not right.”
“No, it’s not right at all.” Saunders furrowed his brow as well. “Computer. At what time index and date was there a cascade manipulator item 8-09018 installed in Jeffries tube sector A-0109?”
=^= Cascade Manipulator item 8-09018 was installed in Jeffries tube sector A-0109 on stardate 78.908 – 2121 hours. =^= The main Computer replied.
“That was just hours before Captain Hurd had addressed the crew for the holodeck match.” Humphreys looked at the two other engineers.
Saunders, at that point, had tapped his communication badge. =^= Lieutenant Saunders to Commodore Song =^=
Cyndi tapped her com-badge "What can I do for you lieutenant? Have you found something?"
=^= We have Commodore. I'd rather speak to you in person, if I may. =^=

[Commodore Song's Ready Room]
Having entered the Commodore's Ready Room. Saunders held with him a padd and some pictures of the device that was placed on the EPS taps in jeffries tube A-0109. A cascade manipulator was responsible for directing an overload of power to the Holodeck when the security controls were taken offline.
This was just hours before Captain Hurd was injured and Riggs was killed.
"So, Commodore. This is our evidence we have produced. Something was afoot." He completed his explanation to the Commodore in her ready room.
"And by putting in in there who ever did it had to know it wouldn't be found right away, if at all," Cyndi commented as she turned to Kahn "How could someone gotten in there and managed to avoid security? While I hate to ask, do either of you think it was done by a member of the crew?"
"I can not with good conscience answer that question Captain. I am not security. Yet, the knowledge of this vessels internal engineering, the access to the specialized computer core, and holodeck safeties becoming disabled from codes. If I can make a current educated guess. It has to be some sort of targeting aimed for Capt. Hurd." He shook his head in disbelief.
"That's my thought too," Cyndi agreed.
"Well, Ma'am. I had best get back to Engineering. No doubt you will want to continue with this investigation." He had nodded, and then left the Commodore to her office work and tasks at hand.
