Posted on Fri May 28th, 2021 @ 6:55pm by Lieutenant T’Mia Rahl & Lieutenant Alister McKeon

Mission: Character Development and A Mystery
Location: Chief Counselor Office
Timeline: Current

Alister stared at the screen on his desk and tried not to growl at the request for an evaluation by the ship’s Chief Counselor. He didn’t particularly enjoy spending time with people who’s job it was to fiddle in your mind especially those who had the advantage of telepathy and an upper hand on telling when someone was skirting the truth or operating with one toe on the line a state he particularly lived in during his career. He sighed taking time to settle his mind before standing up and heading for his meeting.

With one last deep breath to settle his mind and still his thoughts he pressed the admittance chime.

Amethyst looked towards the door. “Come in” She smiled as Alister walked in.

“Lieutenant,” he said with a nod and a smile, “You wanted to see me?”

“I do indeed” Amethyst nodded. “Please take a seat. If you’d like anything to drink please feel free to help yourself.” She motioned to the replicator. “This is nothing to worry about, I simply need to catch up with your psych evaluation.”

Alister moved over to the replicator and ordered a cup of coffee with cream and sugar before sitting down. He took a sip and then schooled his thoughts with an old trick he had learned running thru a poker game in his head and working out the odds of certain cards coming up. “Of course, your message stated it was time for my psyche evaluation,” he said.

Amethyst looked at Alister curiously. His emotions were a mixed bag when he walked in, now they were oddly well controlled. “So how are you settling in onboard the Amandora?”

“Well enough, except for Major Hurd everyone seems well put together,” Alister replied from his seat, “Different from my normal duty location but managed to get my stuff caught up with me so starting to feel closer to how I like things.”

Amethyst raised a very Vulcan like eyebrow at the mention of Hurd’s name, “Are you having problems with Major Hurd?”

“He has an overinflated sense of self worth,” Alister replied with a shrug of his shoulders, “The answer to every problem is not a hammer, I’m surprised that wasn’t knocked out of him by a senior Marine NCO. Glad I’m not wearing Marine green is all I’m saying.”

Amethyst nodded. “Understandable. We’re all entitled to our own opinions. I see from your personnel file that you were previously an Academy instructor?”

“That’s correct Intel learned the hard way from the Dominion War to rotate field operatives back to the Academy to pass on hard won knowledge rather then finish training with an active team. Was nice being able to go back home and see the family, but the Amandora needed a Chief Intelligence Officer and I was itching to get back into the field somehow.”

"So this is your first position as Chief?" Amethyst smiled. "How does it feel to be the head of a department?"

“I’ve run part of an operations team before but yes first time head of a department,” Alister said taking another ship of his coffee, “Easier then teaching to be honest the Chiefs run a tight ship leaves me to looking at the big picture and if a more direct form of intelligence gathering is needed.”

Amethyst nodded. “Do you have any worries or concerns? Anything you need to talk about or air your feelings about?”

Alister smiled over at Amethyst, “Nothing comes to mind at the moment.”

Amethyst nodded. “Very well, in that case I’m happy that there’s nothing in your personnel file that I need to worry about. I’ll sign off on your evaluation, and you’re free to get back to work.”

Alister gave a nod of his head, “Hopefully the rest of your day goes smoothly.” Stepping outside the hatch he let it close before stopping the mental card game in his head. He gave a weary sigh another year before he had to go thru that again.

Watching Alister go Amethyst signed off on the evaluation before adding the PADD to her pile of completed reviews.
