While James had some time he thought he ought meet the new XO. Tapping his Comm "Lt. Commander Bird, this Lieutenant James McTavish I would like to meet with you at your convenience."

Having just left Admiral Sanderson's quarters or more like it the outer door Jay, as he preferred, tapped his comm badge.

" Acknowledged McTavish...let's meet in the ready room. I am on my way " Jay said as he finished his own security protocol of the Admiral's door . Advanced AI technology availed him a great opportunity to link mobile emitters to a security drone.

"On my way Sir" James replied; then he made his way to the XO's ready room. When he arrived the door was open so James knocked "Lt. Commander" he said waiting for the XO's acknowledgement.

" Chief of Science. I am simply called Bird. I am not one of the locals ...I am new to this circus. My back ground is tactical so I need to fit in where this Raymond dude treaded. How can I be of service to sciences?" Jay asked McTavish.

Not quite sure what to do exactly, James walked in and took a seat in front of the XO's desk. " It's nice to meet you Bird. When you have the time it would my pleasure to show you around the Science Labs and introduce you to my staff" he replied.

" That would be good. I understand basic sciences and what my native people called the nature of things. I want to get to know all the department heads." Bird replied.

"At your convenience of course" James said " Just so your aware, I'm currently working on project that will enable us to detect a Ship when it's cloaked so we're not taken by surprise."

" Romulan or Klingon ? The Romulans are always evolving theirs." Jay replied and asked.

"Actually Romulan" James replied "Lieutenant McKeon provided me with the latest data that he has on their cloaking. Even if it's not the latest data; it's still better than having no data at all and being totally blind as to the cloaking."

" Their cloaking device works by generating a quantum phase bubble that teleports EM radiation to the other side of the cloaking field and their ships cannot normally fire when cloaked due to the field interfering with weapon accuracy...I was there for four years on Chul as a POW." Jay replied

"You're correct of course" James said "Let me explain my theory, this bubble displaces the space around itself, so by adding an algorithm to the Ship's scanners we should be able to detect this displaced space around said bubble; no matter how minimal the displacement may be" he concluded.

Jay then replied, " You know your stuff Chief."

"Thank you Sir, prior to my transfer to this Ship I participated in a course of study that deals solely with different Space Sciences; I think it just may have paid off" James answered with a chuckle.

" Good man. McTavish I feel safe having you in charge of science. The Commodore is very blessed to have you " Bird replied.

"Thanks for your confidence Sir" James responded "I think I've taken up enough of your time. It was a pleasure meeting you Bird."

Jay nodded and headed to his next meeting in sickbay.
