Post Number 43 What Were You Thinking
Posted on Mon Aug 2nd, 2021 @ 9:46pm by Commodore Cyndi Song & Major David Hurd Senior
Mission:
Mission Guardian Shield
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Current
ON:
Now that the briefing had broken up it was time to deal with the major. Tapping her com-badge "Commander Bird report to my ready room. Marine guards Bring Major Hurd to my ready room as well."
Being muscled by two of the Marines to the ready room, Hurd was pissed. As soon as he saw the Commodore he said, venom dripping from his voice, "Seeing as how I am no longer a Marine or Starfleet, you have no right to order me anywhere, and furthermore, as I stated very, very, clearly, I QUIT!!!!"
Cyndi nodded to the two guard "Wait out side, the only other person cleared to enter my ready room will be Commander Bird," Turning to Hurd Cyndi placed her hands on her hips "I've not yet accepted your resignation, this is my ship and my command, everyone aboard reports to me at one time or another so I have every right to order you or anyone else,? Cyndi said her voice leaving no doubt she was angry "DO I make myself clear!?"
Hurd scoffed and said sarcastically, "Aye Ma'am",. He immediately followed up with, "As it is your right, as you are doing now, to lead this ship on a mission that's doomed to fail and that's going to get a lot of people killed".
Lt Commander Bird quickly arrived as he knew this was not one to filly fart around in.
" Step aside Sergeant. "
" Yes sir." the Sergeant replied.
Opening the door Jay entered and immediately took a stand beside Hurd. Coming to attention he saluted the Commodore.
" Reporting as order Commodore."
"At ease commander," Cyndi said "Both of you please have seats "Major I understand your concerns, every time I send someone on an away mission, get us into a fire fight, send out the fighters, deploy your marines or ship's security I'm well aware there is a chance for loss of life. This will be no different. There is no reason or cause for your actions in the briefing. I plan on beaming down to the surface as well. I know how to handle a weapon and I'm not afraid to die."
"As I have said, this is a suicide mission and I absolutely refuse to have those mens blood on my hands", Hurd said as he started pacing. "I. Refuse to take orders or suggestions from some damn spook either, so he can take what he said and shove it".
"Number one Major he's not a spook, he happens to be the Chief Intelligence Office, who woke me up from a sound sleep with the information he's presented in the briefing, the very briefing you stormed out of, slammed your fist onto the table, along with your rank insignia and your com-badge. The very table you cracked in half. I'm relieving you of command for this mission and I've placed First Lieutenant Jackson in charge of the marines for this mission," Cyndi said fuming.
Jay watched on as Cyndi's fury came out. He could almost empathize with Hurd as he felt that fury being unleashed and was glad she wasn't directing it at him.
"Intel, spook, it's all the same damn thing!!!", Hurd yelled. "And fyi Commodore, you can't relive somebody who has resigned". "You can have your suicide mission and I'll sit back and watch it fall apart in front of you, but you had better be damn sure that when it does, I'll make you as infamous as Ben Maxwell or Admiral Layton, count on it!!!"
"I'd watch your tone with me," Cyndi warned "I told you I've not accepted your resignation and I don't plan to. That makes you still the marine commander and my second officer. Your suspended for this mission. Keep it up and I'll have you confined to the brig. But have you ever thought that this mission just might be good with little to no loss of life? NO you haven't, the minute the mission was outlined you blew up and stormed out of the briefing. That is actions unbecoming an officer. Under guard and confined to quarters or the brig. Choice is yours. Or can I trust to to let First Lieutenant Jackson handle the marines?"
" Commodore, Major we are too close to turn back. Those people need help and we need to help them Major I respect your opinion but as a soldier it is your responsibility to follow the Commodores commands . I am new here but I respect the chain of command. If Marines die it will likely be because the best leader decided to take his ball and go home. Grow a pair sir and pull up your big boy underwear." Lt Commander Bird added.
Shaking with absolute fury, Hurd turned to Bird and said, "Don't you dare ever, ever question my loyalty, my bravery, or my honor". "I have been fighting since you were a small child, so learn your place boy". Turning back to the Commodore, so enraged now his eyes had turned black, he said, "So this is what you resort to, threats, intimidation, and making me l feel lower than scum?"
"It's no threat major," Cyndi retorted "Let me ask you this, had it been one of your marines who have acted the way you did in the briefing and now in my office what would you do? I'm pretty sure you'd be just as angry as I am."
"If it were one of my men I'd have him shot for acting the way I have been", Hurd said remorsefully. His tone lightning, he said simply, " I'm sorry Commodore, I'm just a angry idiot".
"Your angry major and I fully understand, I'm not going to shoot you. I am going to keep First Lieutenant Jackson in charge for this mission. I want you to talk to the counselor and get some help for your anger issues. This isn't the first time we've had a discussion like this but I want it to be the last. Your a damned fine officer and you have great potential. You have a problem with a mission, an away team assignment you come to me. Your marines need to see that you can lead them and they look up to you. I took a hell of a chance in agreeing to let a very young fighter pilot who has not been through Starfleet lead the fighters and trust me she's done a whale of a job. Your the second officer of this ship, you have full rites as a bridge command officer. I'd like to see you handle a bridge duty shift," Cyndi said opening a drawer on her desk, pulled out a bottle of whisky, three glasses and poured some into each glass and offered one to each man there. She then slid Hurd's rank insignia across her desk to him along with the com-badge he'd left behind. "Like I said major I didn't accept your resignation. Have a friendly glass of whisky with me and the commander, talk to the counselor and sit this mission out. What do you say?"
" I will pour the fire water Commodore," Jay went to the bar.
"The whisky is on my desk commander, I keep some in here for such times," Cyndi said nodding to the bottle and three glasses on her desk.
" I already found it. Let's first make a toast" Jay said as he handed out there shot glasses.
" To the Amandora...boldly going where angel's fear to tread "
Resetting his rank insignia and putting on his combadge, Hurd raised his glass and said, "To the Amadora and the Starfleet Marines!!!". He then drank his whiskey, enjoying the burn as it went down.
"To the Amandora," Cyndi said downing her glass of whisky as well. "Anyone want a refill? I even have Romulan Ale aboard too. But that's not in here, that is in my quarters."
"No Ma'am", Hurd said happily. "But I was thinking, you wanted me to do a Bridge Shift right?", He asked, a professional tone in his voice. "How does Alpha and Bravo, back to back sound?"
"If you think you can handle two bridge shifts back to back go for it. It will give me time to catch up on never ending paperwork and spend time with my husband," Cyndi said "Since the day is about half over take your shift in the morning, I try to be on the bridge by 06:00, that gives me a chance to catch up on what the over night shift has done."
" Well alrighty then sounds like we're getting the band back together." Jay joked
"I certanlly hope so," Cyndi replied "I need you major."
" Me too Major these women already out gun us with hormones." Jay joked.
"Okay major your dismissed and I want you to see the counselor about your anger. You need to get it under control. Your a good officer."
