Alister moved thru the city an arm wrapped around Katie in a protective gesture as they made their way toward an apartment complex that they had identified as a possibly location for the former station chief. “I still say this is a bad idea, Katie,” Alister said into her ear, “My team is trained for this, you’re an analyst by training.”
“I had the basic course at the academy and as the senior Intel officer on planet I feel it’s my duty to attend to this,” Katie replied softly, “I have to see this thru.”
Alister glanced down and saw the set expression on her face, “You got your extra pip two days before me Katie and the basic course at the academy doesn’t cover experience or the advanced courses.” He sighed, “Something happens to the top hacker in the sector and the Admiral’s going to have my ass.” He glanced over as a figure moved into the building the door still slightly ajar. “Let’s go entry team is in the building.”
The two scampered across the street opening the door and hurrying up the steps until encountering the rest of the Intel team outside a door. “This is it boss, rooms to either side are clear,” one of his men said.
“Alright let’s do this by the numbers hack the door, and clear the apartment we need Intel grab PADDs and anything that looks important,” Alister said taking a deep breath as he pulled a phaser pistol out of his coat. He glanced left and right as a box was placed on the lock a slight whirl as four red lights turned to green. As the fourth turned he nodded and the door was shouldered open the team moving clearing corners as the pushed on phaser pistols at the ready.
“In here boss,” a voice called from the back bedroom.
Alister entered followed by his team and looked at the face of Petty Officer Jennifer Connors as she looked at the dead body of the former station chief tied to a chair showing the clear signs of being tortured. Katie breathed in sharply as Alister moved closer and looked around grabbing a bloody PADD from the floor, “They must have been after this,” he said glancing over to Jennifer.
“Looks like it, possibly locked to a bio signature and a password,” Jennifer replied looking over, “We should be able to crack it back at the embassy.”
“Ummm…. What is this,” Katie said pointing to a spot under the seat.
Alister and Jennifer glanced over and froze at a device that was utterly familiar to them a Romulan designed incendiary device. The team exploded into action turning as Alister grabbed Katie and sprinting toward the exit. Alister grabbed Katie pausing as he considered his options at making it out with Katie thru the door. He glanced out the back window and saw an alley way. Turning he fired a couple of shots at the window before hitting it shoulder first dragging a protesting Katie as he jumped from the third story window seconds before the dull thump of the incendiary device went off flames shooting out the breached window as Alister rolled awkwardly Katie’s weight slamming into him.
He groaned as he pushed himself off the ground making sure that nothing needed immediate medical attention, “Let’s go Katie need to make it to a safe house regroup with the rest of the team.”
