Having been to Sickbay to have her facial reconstruction done, T’Mia was having to get used to not just the site of herself as a Cardassian female, but learning to act like one as well. Part of training for a Counselor was putting yourself in someone else’s ‘shoes’ understanding the psyche of the patient. Now she was having to put herself into the mind of a Cardassian female.
Stepping out onto the bridge she made her way across to her seat, nodding to Song as she did so. “Captain” she settled down waiting for others to finish getting ready. “This is...odd to say the least!”
"I'm sure it is lieutenant, but this is the best way I can think of to get close to the Cardassian hostages and see how they feel about their treatment. Part of me envies you as I've done this kind of thing years ago when I was assigned to an away team and had to go as another species. It opened my eyes a lot to how they were treated," Cyndi commented
“That’s if they’ll even let me get close. We don’t know if there are other colonies across the planet, and if there are do they permit mixing between the colonies?” T’Mia sighed. “For all we know walking into a village claiming to be from another village could lead to interrogation and punishment. We’re all going to have to be extremely cautious!”
"According to scans I've run and scans science has run there are numerous settlements on the planet. Some are a good distance apart," Cyndi replied.
T’Mia nodded. “So I’m more or less going to be completely alone? I have to admit that makes me nervous.”
"Would you prefer to remain aboard?" Cyndi asked "I only assigned you as you’re friendly and could very easily get them to open up and talk to you. But if your uncomfortable with this assignment I can pull you from it and you can remain on the ship."
“No Captain, I’m not backing out of this. I’m a Starfleet Officer and I’ll do what I’m assigned to do.” T’Mia offered a smile. “I’ll do my best to earn people’s trust.”
"I'm sure you will be able to," Cyndi said "I know you’re not a quitter."
T’Mia nodded. “I wouldn’t be much of a counselor if I was!” She offered a smile.
"You and the rest of the away team will be armed but I cannot stress enough to keep it on stun and only use it if there is no other option," Cyndi said "You’re to keep the phaser hidden at all times. Do you have any questions for me?"
T’Mia paused to think. “What if these people come to realize that the away team members aren’t from their world? Do I make out that I’m from Cardassia? That there’s a ship waiting for them?”
"That's what I would do, but also keep in mind they may or may not be aware of other settlements as we don't know if the Jem Hadar are letting them travel. I know how to change transponder codes to make this ship look like another ship if I have to. Paul showed me long ago."
T’Mia nodded. “Okay, I think that covers everything I needed to know. I just hope I don’t come up against any brick walls, so to speak.”
"I'll have a transporter lock on the away team and we'll be monitoring things," Cyndi assured her.
T’Mia nodded. “Well I just have to get used to the face now. It’s odd looking at a Cardassian face and not mine, but I’ll get used to it.”
"It's temporary," Cyndi reminded her
“Yes ma’am. Anyway I should get to the transporter room, I’ll keep in touch when I can.”
"Do that and be careful, Lieutenant Herculoid has already beamed down. Make sure you keep hydrated," Cyndi replied
“I will Captain, don’t worry I’m half Vulcan I tolerate heat more than most.” T’Mia nodded and headed on her way.
