Narla walked into Hurd's office and pressed the button on the
"Have a seat major," Narla said taking a seat. "I'm concerned that you were given an order by Commodore Song and you've not done what she wanted done"
Stiffening up, and his tone going cold, he Asked, "And what might that be?"
"She ordered you to go to anger management and as last report from her you've not done so. Care to explain why?" Narla asked
Hurd stiffened his stance before he spoke. "I have been, and with all respect the contents of those sessions are privileged General".
"They are privileged that is true, if you've been to anger management then the commodore is unaware," Narla replied "Have you completed it? And if so the commodore needs to be brought up to speed."
"They are still on-going and I think that, at least in my opinion, they should continue for a while", Hurd said relaxing his his tone. ""I have a lot of pent up anger and guilt inside of me that needs to be dealt with, and I'm just starting to work on it it, as hard as it pains me to admit that". Relaxing his tone, Hurd smiled and added, "Not saying Anger doesn't have it's place though".
Narla nodded "It does, but let me ask you this. What kind of example are you setting for the men and women under your command let alone being the second officer on this ship? And I know about tempers, if my husband were aboard he'd tell you how quick tempered I can be. I'm glad your willing to admit to the anger issue and are in counseling for it. I do want you to continue it. Are you sure your up to commanding the marines on this ship?"
"General, I am more than capable of preforming my duties leading my men and women", Hurd said tensely. "And I lead by example, I demand excellence, honor, and loyalty, exhibit those traits myself, and will not except anything less".
"I'd expect nothing less," Narla replied. "What concerns do you have that I need to address if any? And how are you handling bridge shifts?"
"No concerns General", Hurd said in a relaxed tone. "The Bridge shifts are going fine, although some of the Starfleet crew are uncomfortable with a Marine giving them orders". Smiling from ear to ear he continued, "I really don't care about that, as long as they obey my orders, that's the only thing I require".
"That's because it's not something anyone is used to. Commodore Song runs a good and tight ship, the fleet officers give you too much trouble tell her and she'll handle it," Narla said "I put you in as second officer as we're trying to get marines and fleet to work together. So far it seems to be working."
"It is", Hurd said. "I have had no outfight defiance of my commands or orders, they just seem uncomfortable", Hurd said softly. "That is something I will attempt my utmost to resolve General". Pausing for a moment, Hurd but his lip and said, "General, you know me, I have never been one to ask for promotions, nor expect them, however, I have heard rumors I am in line for one, can you confirm that?"
"You are, your next increase will be to Lieutenant Colonel, but before I can do that Commodore Song needs to promote Lieutenant Commander Kahn to Commander as if I increase your rank you'll out rank the ships first officer and that won't go well," Narla replied "If I'm still aboard once the Commander Kahn has been promoted I'll gladly promote you, if I'm gone by then then the commodore can do it. Does that sound fair to you?"
"Sounds fair to me", Hurd said rubbing his chin. Thinking for a moment he asked, "What did I do to deserve this?"
"You remind me of when I started out, I have a temper and trust me I got in hot water for it. You are a good officer and when your promoted to lieutenant colonel I'm going to expect more from you. Your to continue with your anger management and prove to me you deserve it. But I will warn you, this will be the highest you'll be able to go while aboard this ship," Narla said
"I understand completely Ma'am", Hurd said saluting. "General, permission to shake your hand?"
Narla offered her hand "Call me Narla and your good." she said smiling.
"Thank you Narla", Hurd said shaking her hand. Pausing for a long while, he asked, "So where does this leave us?"
"I believe we've reached an understanding. You have a promising future, get that temper under control and keep it there. I'm always open should you need to contact me. If you can't reach me through marine channels my daughter knows where I am. I will also expect updates on how your anger management is coming," Narla said
"Understood, am I dismissed?" , Hurd asked in a pleasant tone.
Narla nodded "Your dismissed major,"
