With the whereabouts of Major Hurd and First Lieutenant Jackson someone needed to take charge of the marines aboard the ship. Looking over the roster two names stood out, First Lieutenant Rivers and Second Lieutenant Silk. Rivers was good and a hell of a pilot. Silk had more experience. Tapping her com-badge "Second Lieutenant Silk this is Song. Please report to my ready room. I have an urgent matter to discuss with you."
Finishing up tending to the latest bruises on one of his eight year old patients, Silk heard the summons from the Commodore. He acknowledged her call then disinfected and cleaned his devices before vacating Sickbay. With a determined gait, yet casual, Sean arrived at the Ready Room, chiming and waiting.
"Come in!" Cyndi called.
Stepping within the CO's sanctum, Silk approached to just before her desk, standing tall. "Lieutenant Silk reporting as ordered, Commodore."
Cyndi indicated to the chairs before her desk "Please have a seat. I have a problem and I hope you can help solve it."
~oh shit~ thought Silk, taking one of the offered chairs and relaxing as much as was possible in the presence of a Commodore. "Well, being a butterbar limits my input, Sir, but I am always willing to try."
"Major Hurd and First Lieutenant Jackson are currently unavailable to command the marines. Your one of two choices I have for temporary command of the marines. The other one is First Lieutenant Rivers, while she's qualified as well you have more experience and I'm tasking you with taking temporary command of the marines if your willing. If not I'll turn it over to Rivers."
Wow, that was not expected. "I got no problems with getting marines all on the same page, Sir. I'll hold it down until Hurd can resume command."
"I'm glad to hear it, Hurd does run a tight ship. I don't know how long he's going to be away the same with Jackson," Cyndi replied as she turned to her computer, tapped a few commands and then slid a PADD over to him "This is your passwords that will give you full access to anything you'll need there. I also know the fighters technically don't fall under the marine command but Rivers does have her pilots training with them. It's up to you if you want to continue it,"
"Nothin' more attractive than a young woman who can outfly, and outfight, those around her. I got no issues with combined training, Sir. But, that goes both ways. Every leatherneck worth their stripes should know the basics to piloting...anything."
"I knew I picked you for a reason. Get with Rivers and get some of the marines cross trained to fly," Cyndi said "She's young but she knows her stuff. She's not afraid of too much."
"Fear keeps us honest, Commodore." Silk gave a crooked grin at that. "If I said i never felt fear during combat, I'd be lying. But, controlling that fear, and using it to positive effect, is the mark of a true soldier."
"Same here, and I doubt Rivers got where she is by showing fear. I've seen her in action a few times," Cyndi said "In a way I wish she was a full fledged marine, she does train with them but she's fighter pilot."
Silk gave a chuckle. "Commodore, she can train with me any time. The more grunts we have, the better. The problem with most Starfleet is that most don't like to get dirty. Pristine living conditions spoil people. Not many can handle the mud and blood of a soldier's life."
Cyndi grinned "Where do I get my hands dirty? I didn't get this far without a little dirt on my hands. As for Rivers she'll get her hands dirty. A little note with her, she's not Starfleet trained. She knows her stuff but she's not Starfleet trained. I put her where she is because of her qualifications from her home planet."
Silk gave a nod as he stood. "Then I will make it my duty to get her properly trained, in all our wonderful Starfleet ways."
Cyndi stood as well "Do that, she's good. I'll make sure you have access to her Amazon records and any questions contact General Long."
"Will do, Sir, thank you." Giving a departing nod Lieutenant Silk left the ready room. So much for applying band-aids for a while.
