#63 I'm Back

Posted on Tue May 10th, 2022 @ 1:29pm by Captain Sean Silk & Lieutenant Commander Kristian Long

Mission: Weapon Investigating
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Current

ON:

Lieutenant Silk entered Sickbay for his Alpha shift, wearing clean and pressed marine combat fatigues. Over the BDU tunic he wore an engineer's vest, the pockets stuffed with medical devices rather than repair tools. This was his smock of pockets as a doctor. Making a B-line for the CMO's office, glancing through the window to see Kris at her desk. Approaching the door which was locked open Sean leaned a shoulder on the door jam.

"Hey, Boss," he said. "Came to inform you that I'll be back in medical as my main department. Hurd is coming home soon, so I'm to keep the marines at the ready until his return."

Kristian looked up grateful for the interruption. "Come in and have a seat."

Sean stepped inside the office and took a seat, leaning back casually in his chair. "Catching up on paperwork?"

"It never ends," Kristian commented "Not that I'm complaining as I worked long and hard to get here. How are things in marine country with the major off? I hope he and his family are enjoying the break."

Silk gave a few nods. "They're fine. Marines. The XO gave me a warning about Hurd, that he was mourning for whatever reason. It is the reason for his long absence. But, she wouldn't explain why, saying it was on Hurd to tell folks what transpired."

"I've not heard anything. The counselor suddenly resigned, she gave no reason just left," Kristian said "It's a good thing part of my training has been in counseling so if he needs to talk I'm here. I could check with my mum and see if she has any idea what happened. But that's a line I really don't want to cross."

Sean's eyes got hard as he turned his head to look directly at Long. What she had just said got his hackles up. "Leave it alone, Kris. It's his life, his tragedy. We don't need to go mucking about in the man's personal life. When he gets back then the counseling and questions can commence, not before that."

"I have no intentions of asking her that. Like I said that's a line I don't want to cross. She couldn't tell me anyway as it's a marine matter" Kristain responded "We're here if he needs to talk. I know what not to ask my mum. So relax Sean, that would be a breach of ethics."

Sean nodded at her, respectfully. "Apologies, Doc. A bit of a sore subject for me. I lost someone whom I loved with all my heart. She died at the hands of a Jem'Hadar while covering my ass. He hacked her to pieces right before my eyes. That was the day I got a metal spike shoved through my dome. Let's just say I should be dead, but I'm not. Since that day I have become a combat machine. I have no remorse when killing enemies and the wicked should be shown no mercy. It doesn't sit well with my medical license but it is who I am. So, again, apologies for popping off."

"No apologies needed. My home planet was invaded by the Romulan Empire and things I saw was not pleasant. I saw my best friend killed right in front of me and my aunt taken prisoner," Kristian replied "That's part of why I went into medicine and my brother chose to remain on our planet and stayed in the military there. War is never fun or easy."

"Easy? No." Said Sean, shaking his head slightly. "Fun? Never. But, despite those two simple truths, I do love the thrill of battle, not war itself." He stood and stretched his lumbar region. "Anyway, didn't mean to interrupt. Just wanted to let my CMO know I will be back more often in Sickbay. I have another avenue of interest which I will pursue over time. Do you need anything from me, Doctor, while I'm here?"

Kristian stood as well "Not that I can think of, It's been quiet in here. I've got my paperwork caught up so I think I'll find my cousin and see if she's free for lunch."

"Well, Kris, if your cousin can't make it, or doesn't mind a third party, let me know. I'll lunch with you anytime." Having said that he gave a nod and left her office. An adult and a little girl came in to Sickbay and Silk put on his best face and walked over to assist them. He noted the girl was limping a little. So, he got them to a biobed and began to administer treatment.

After a call to science Krstian walked out to where Sean was and handed the little girl a Teddy Bear "This is for you, he looked lonely and I wonder if you'd like to take him home so he won't be lonely anymore. Sean my cousin is good with lunch when your finished here."

"Nice," said Silk as he attended to his patient. "Just a stressed ankle. I should be free around lunch. See you then." Out of the corner of his eye Silk saw Long turn and leave his vicinity. Soothing the girl's rattled nerves he proceeded to make her feel all better. His first good deed of the day.
