Jamie T. Kirk appeared on the transporter pad on the starship Amandora. She gave a smile and wink to the transporter operator. "Permission to come aboard?"

"Granted, Ensign Kirk. PLease, step off the pad. COmmander Green is enroute."

Kirk stepped down from the platform, going around the transparisteel shields and looking over the operator's shoulder. "Anything unusual out there?"

"Like what?" The man looked up at her. "This is it. Every minute of every day. A whole lot of nothing going on."

"Have you thought of switching specializations? Ya know, go from transporter gofer boy to say--an engineer?" Kirk's tone had began to issue forth a bit of cynicism backed by sarcasm.

"I'm not that good at engineeering, though it is my secondary."

"Then con a crew mate and let them sit here bored all night, and go do what you know you really want to. Stop staring at these walls and rise above, Lieutenant." He was a JG, but the title of LT was the title of LT.

"Do you always cause discord wherever you go," asked a female voice coming from the entryway. Green had walked in, the doors very quiet as she entered and they closed behind her. "That man is right where he needs to be until he builds his confidence. Nothing worse than a chicken shit engineer in the engine room."

Kirk turned to face the new voice, seeing a woman who physically radiated confidence even as it exuded from her being. "I can agree with that. Commander Green," asked Kirk as she stepped in and stood tall. "Ensign Jamie T. Kirk, assigned as Chief Small Craft Pilot and Tactical. No relation to the great man himself."

Green took it all in, keeping her face and entire being stoic. "But, you were named after him? Your father have a hero complex?"

Kirk's face quirked up questioningly. "How the hell do you know that?" She waved it off. "Nevermind. Yes, I was named Jamie because I had a vagina. But," she leaned in all secretive, yet spoke loud enough to show it was psuedo-secret in her mind. "Friends call me Jim, just for kicks and to respect that I am everything Jim Kirk should have been had he been a woman."

~Think much of yourself?~ thought Green, but left it alone right now. "Ensign Kirk, to be honest, I don't care. Even if you were related to Captain Kirk it would make no difference. You need to shine your way like he did in his time. You will soon learn you are not the center of Starfleet. I just hope it happens in a way you can absorb it before you die."

Kirk's brows raised, not expecting such a blunt and factual discussion. This XO pulled no punches with her feelings. "Commander, I don't plan on dying anytime soon. I know my strengths. I'm a reactionary Starfleet officer. Shit happens; I react. But, never in any circumstance do I forget who I am, a Starfleet officer and a Federation Citizen."

Green had been tapping on her PADD, assigning Kirk and sending messages. She made sure Kirk knew that everything she had said had been heard. "No one knows when their time is due, so not planning to die is mute. You know your strengths, that is good. But, we need teamwork on this ship, not gung-ho antics that risk others with a slim chance of success. Yes, yes, it worked for Kirk time and again but, as you said, you are not Kirk. It was his time to shine. You, not even a flicker of candlelight in a vast universe. We see you, but is your flame pure?"

"Not at all, Commander," answered Kirk honestly. "I am arrogant at times, but it is because I know what I, and others, are capable of in a pinch. The least likely group of officers can save the entire Federation, given the right circumstance and tolerance. I don't believe in failure, Sir. Even a perceived failure provides access to further victories. Nothing is ever wasted."

Green liked the way this Kirk thought. No matter what fight to the last to win. But, hope too often blinded officers to futility, when a situation was unwinnable and they still tried to fight rather than defend. Kobyashi Maru always came to mind. "I can't help but agree. Just tone your energy down a notch and we'll be fine. I've already sent Mister Suvak a notice that you are on board and slotted." She tapped some keys. "Your quarters assignment. Get settled, take a breath, then come to the Bridge."

"Aye, Sir," responded Kirk as she went her own way and Green turned down another.

Time to find her quarters and unpack.
