#18 Laying the Cornerstone

Mission:
A Patrol and Supply mission
Location: Tython
Timeline: current/somewhere in between
ON:
Rogue Green walked along the permacrete sidewalk, the edge built like a wide bench seat that overlooked a 300 foot drop. This summit was the tallest mountain in the area, and just on the outside edge of the city's most outer ring and wall. This was a massive monument that would rival the Christ statue in Brazil, marking Tython as a home and a permanent establishment. Green had beamed to the ship and changed into her Meji Order clothing and leathers (see third bio pic), with her combadge placed appropriately. The equipment belt was the one she had made for this sleeveless outfit and her lightsaber hung on her hip where it should. The day was beautiful and after having been here two days already with camping, surfing and hiking behind her, Ro felt renewed. Envigorated. She could feel the presence that had slowly wound its way up the long spiral ramp/sidewalk to get to the top, the monument and, her.
"What the devil are you waring?" Asked Lucas Jones as he rounded and ascended the last bit of spiral in his trek.
Green spun to face him and held her arms out a bit at waist level. "It's who I am beyond the duties to Starfleet. It is in the works that the Meji Order will be recognized by the Federation Council. And then, eventually, all governments." She went back to her casual stance as he approached, the two of them walking together to the retainer wall as they both looked out over the lights of the city coming on as the sun went down on another crystal clear blue sky.
"A new religion?" Lucas was now curious.
"There are aspects that smack of religion, so yes. To put a basic and simple label on it. It's a way of life, every day. Even when on duty a Meji is still a Meji."
"Meji? How'd you arrive at that name, or title?"
Green spun around and hopped her bum up onto the wall, legas dangling at the knees as she explained. "The Medjay were an elite Egyptian paramilitary police force who served and acted as desert scouts and protectors of areas of Pharaonic interest throughout the Old, Middle, and New Kingdom periods of Egypt. The sworn guardians of the pharaoh and the nation, at their peak, the Medjay were highly esteemed and perceived as the very symbol of true honor." Ro lifted her face and looked up with a half grin. "Since the Meji Order are the guardians of the Federation and its way of life the name made sense, with a bit of change for the differences. We are protectors of everything UFP. Above that call, as a Meji, I try to aid all beings and all life in the galaxy. With the Core encompassing everything then it is easy for those who can commune with it to learn to manipulate it and become Meji themselves. But, right now, those with any abilities whatsoever are miniscule, at best."
That's when a question and answer session began, the two of them walking all the way back down the mountain and into the park and pavilion. Green did note the full size performance stage with instruments all set up and kept clean with steri-fields. All of the questions Lucas asked she answered, topics ranging from her life growing up to the Meji, and the future of Tython.
They had gone into the tiki bar and collected a beverage each, Green's being a tequila sunrise since these folks made their own. She would be sure to grab a few cases before leaving. Now, they stood beside the fountain sipping and talking as they sat down. "I think I covered everything and then some." She giggled.
His face showed he was working out something in his mind or, at the very least, had a thought but didn't know how to word it. Several times he went to start, gave a snuff out the nose and rethought.
Green placed a hand on his forearm, even with hers wearing a gauntlet with a built in bracer that went up to each elbow and were fingerless. "Hey, just say it. I can take it, promise." She pulled her hand back.
Something in the way she said that made Lucas decide to just be as honest as possible. "Look, Ro. We did need those supplies to help our situation but we wouldn't have been left starving or anything. But, it afforded a chance to get Starfleet out here so we could talk to you. And, through you, the Federation."
Green could see him physically relaxing as he spoke, the anxiety that had kept him stiff now washing away. She didn't need the Core to feel that. "Okay, I'm curious. What do you need to speak to the UFP about?"
"Tython wants to become a government. A legitimate, part of the interstellar community, government." Green smiled and went to say something and he raised a hand. "Let me go on. This is our planet, our world. I was recently voted to be the first planetary governor should we decide to go this route. But, I cannot stress enough our INDEPENDENCE. Whether a member of the UFP or not, we decide our fate. We pretty much use Federation laws out here anyway, so we're good."
Ro waited a few moments to make sure he had paused this time. "That all sounds fine. It's a big step but you people seem to have your heads on right. We have no Chief Diplo officer and since I am XO it is my duty to fill in when needed. When you are ready to sit casually for a few hours and get all this recorded that would help. Get the ball rolling."
Jones gave a nod and grin. "I'm having some friends over at my place tonight. A dozen or so good people getting together for social, BBQ and drinks. Once they depart then we can sit down and hash out a rough draft."
Green read the innuendo there and the body language didn't lie, as much as he was playing coy with it. "Sounds good. I'm going to go check on my acolyte and then I'll call you and come over."
"Hope you have a good appetite," said Lucas with a big smile. "Gonna be plenty of fixins."
Ro assured him that she did as she stood and tapped her badge, beaming to the USS Nile where she had left Cosmo with Kirk and Kahn. She stepped into the campfire ring and sat down in her camp chair, popping open a local brew Lucas had given them a few days ago. The two ladies got the lowdown.
