Kristian woke up early, getting up she looked over at Tara’s bed to find it empty, walking to the bathroom only to find it empty. Picking up a piece of paper Kristian jotted a note for Alesha telling her she and Tara were out exploring so not to alarm her.

It took only a few minutes for her to get dressed, grabbing her field kit and phaser Kristian headed out, once clear of the hotel she pulled out her tri-coder and scanned for an Amazon life sign.

Tara had woken early and wanted to be alone to think, she’d dressed quietly, picked up her tri-coder, field kit along with her phaser and after scanning the area found a small pond, she collected a few more samples of plants, soil and a few other things, after securing them in some vials had headed for the pond. Dawn was breaking by the time she got there, kicking off her shoes Tara scanned the pond and found it safe, waded out into it, there was a small Island in the middle of it. Once on the Island Tara sat on a tree stump.

Kristian followed her cousin and soon was at the pond, seeing Tara on the Island in the middle of the pond removed her shoes and waded out to where her cousin was and took a seat on a log. The pair didn’t say anything for several minutes as they watched the sun come up. “Tara this isn’t like you, what’s bothering you?”

“I don’t know, I love what I’m doing but is it enough? The commodore taught at Starfleet, before she was promoted and given this command. I’m wondering if there’s more, maybe I’ll talk to my boss and the commodore and see if they’ll recommend me for a teaching position at Starfleet.”

“Are you serious?” Kristian asked

“I’m just thinking out loud right now, I love Starfleet and I love science, remember when I blew a hole in the roof of the Palace when an experiment went wrong?” Tara asked

“Do I, I don’t know who was madder, your folks, Sonya or Marlaina. They had to close off that wing of the Palace for weeks while it was repaired.” Kristian laughed “You never did finish that experiment. Come back with me and finish that experiment, I know you still have your notes and in my free time I’ll help you. What do you say?”

Tara looked at her cousin and nodded “Okay, but don’t be surprised if I do speak to them at some point.”

“Let’s go wake up Alesha if she’s not already up and have breakfast, do some more shopping and then return to the ship.” Kristian said

“Let’s and keep this between us,” Tara asked

“You know I will,” Kristian assured her.
