Mission:
BUGS OH NO!!
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: current/somewhere in between
ON:
Ainkara stayed at Silk's side as she went from patient to patient, handing him items when he asked for them. She was fascinated by the care with which these physicians aided others. Everyone was helped equally and the medical staff were top notch. At one point, watching Silk carefully as she had been for over an hour now, she was curious about the dermal regenerator, having never seen one before. He used it several times on different patients and then set it aside while he was talking to a child. Ainkara's eyes glanced to her left, then to her right, no one near her and no one watching her. So, with hands clasped in front she subtely lifted her right hand with the palm aimed more or less at the device. Her left hand was over the top of the right in clasping, providing a bit of a blind. The dermal regenerator lifted off the nurses tray and zipped into her hand rather quickly. Ainkara then dropped her hand back down and tried to cover the DR as she slinked off to a private spot.
Bringing the item up she rolled it several times in her hands, examining it up close. Looking at the device brought forth flashes in her mind, images of similar technology yet far more advanced. Pushing back all the mental chaos trying to enter her mind Ainkara activated the device and watched it, again turning it this way and that. Slowly, as her peripheral expanded out from her focus she realized that Silk and two other healers were standing and staring at her. Giving a sheepish look Ainkara then did a silly wave at being caught before walking over and handing it back.
"Doctor Long, you remember Ainkara?" Asked Silk.
"I do indeed, I'm sorry I haven't reached out to her sooner," Kristian said "How are you finding things on the ship?"
Ainkara gave a slight grin and went to say something. Her mouth opened slightly and then she stopped, her mind hitting a brick wall. So, she waved a hand around casually, seeing all the people being helped and then placed her clasped together hands over her heart (where the Human liver would be) and gave a bowing nod from the neck.
"Still a mental block on speaking?" Sean inquired. They both got a nod at that as her hands over her chest dropped to her sides.
"It will come," Kristian assured her "These people were hurt when the ship was attacked and sick bay is the safest place on the ship."
Eyes suddenly widening a bit with an idea that came to mind, Ainkara reached a hand out to each of them. Right hand for Long, Left hand for Silk, even wiggling the fingers to say 'come on, take my hand'.
Kristian took the offered hand and smiled at her.
Silk shrugged and took hold of the Voran's hand.
Both officers, in their minds, heard a perfectly toned voice. A pleasant voice tone that was deep enough to be alluring and carried a smidge of raspiness. "Hello Silk, Hello Long, I am Ainkara."
Sean's eyes went wider, finally able to hear this woman speak even if it was in his mind. "Awesome!" He said, giving a joyous laugh. "Glad to meet you."
"Likewise, feel free to call me Kristian. It's good to be able to understand you now."
"Only by touch," explained Ainkara. "For now, anyway. I am meditating many hours a day to try and find the proper synaptic pathways."
Silk's eyebrows raised at that, in a positive way. "Ainkara, we have all kinds of medical tech aboard you are more than welcome to look at, all designed for recovery from traumatic brain injury. Maybe a nudge from something could help open the gates?"
The mention of being placed in another mental machine caused instant trepidation in Ainkara and she tightened her grip, the knuckles popping on each hand she held. "Never!" This time what was said was audible, not in their minds and Ainkara didn't even seem to notice.
Wincing at the Vulcanoid's grip Sean held his mud. The look of surprise on his face was unmistakable.
"Relax, no one on this ship is going to harm you. The commodore won't permit it. Your safe here," Kristian said.
Ainkara released their hands and pulled hers back and letting them drop to her sides.
"Didn't you hear her?" Silk asked Long as he rubbed his sore hand with the other. "She spoke!" He then looked at the Voran. "You spoke, Ainkara. It was not in our minds. Perhaps what you needed all this time was a strong emotional response to bring it out. A threat."
As this man spoke Ainkara realized that she had indeed uttered a word. Perfectly, in their language. Her brow scrunched as she tried to get her mind to repeat the process, to follow the synaptic pathways that had allowed it to happen. A sheen of perspiration was forming on her brow as she pushed the effort.
"I heard her, it's a good sign," Kristian said rubbing her hand as well "Is there anything I can do to help you speak?"
"I think we should piss her off again," chuckled Silk.
"Naaawwt...w-wize." Ainkara pushed the words out, though they came out sounding like a toddler, or a drunkard, take your pick. The emphasis on the word 'wise' and the Z sound made it that much more embarrassing.
"Yay," Sean laughed. "We got a singer in our midst."
"She's getting it and yes getting her upset is the answer but we don't want to keep he mad to get her to talk," Kristian said laughing.
"Anger is...not the answer," stated Ainkara, seeming to have found her voice and the wherewithal to keep using it.
"In some cases it is," Silk said, not hiding his soldier side.
"The only things I hate are the Iconians," stated Ainkara, her face and body returning to full capacity as her Voran mental disciplines kicked in to shield her mind once more. "I...seem to be myself again. Thank you!" The gratuity came out forcefully, from the heart and then, without notice, Ainkara stepped in and gave both of them hugs before stepping back to adjust herself.
"Your most welcome and I'm glad that you found your voice. It was a good breakthrough for you," Kristian replied.
"Helps when I have an assistant who can speak," said Silk as he grinned and winked at Ainkara, his mirthful expression one of teasing.
"And, I'm sure Kristian likes it when the other doctor shuts up," Said Ainkara in retort, her own eyes showing mirth. "Now, who do I speak to about transphasic beaming?"
"Not this guy," Sean admitted. "Not my area of expertise."
"I'm not sure I know what that is. You might need to speak to Commodore Song," Kristian said "And I'm fine with Silk talking."
Ainkara gave Long a grin. "I am too, but he deserved the barb." The Commodore was the female in charge on the Bridge?"
"Which one?" Asked Silk.
"The one not named Commander Green, I would assume?" Again, Ainkara showed she had quite the sense of humor which was odd for Silk to take in. She appeared so Vulcan, yet she had pizzazz. She looked at Long. "Is he always like this?" Another mirthful grin to show she was asking out of humor, not seriousness.
"He is and the commodore is the female with the long red hair worn in a ponytail like I wear my hair,"Kristian said "Silk's a good doctor and a big help to me when I'm busy."
Ainkara's face went back to a more serious expression. "I only wish to do my part. To help. With transphasic beaming one can remove all traces of radiation from any structure or vessel. Wiped clean. I saw this when I was on the Bridge but could not voice it to Mister O'Connell. It came to me suddenly and I had not remembered my telepathic abilities at that time. Frustrating."
"The commodore needs to know this," Kristian said suddenly becoming serious. "If that's possible it will come in handy."
"I need an escort, according to Nira. I am not crew but a passenger." Ainkara stated.
"I'll recall Nira," offered Silk. "Wait by that empty biobed and she'll return in short order. Other than that, welcome aboard and glad to have you back to normal...more or less."
"Of course." Ainkara gave them both a nod and then walked away, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning her lumbar region back against the side of the bed. She appeared to go into deep thought.
Silk walked away with Long, the other direction and in an undertone said his piece. "I'll keep an eye on her, Kris. She seems amicable and benevolent but those Iconians were light years ahead of us in technology. We don't need a timebomb to go off when we least expect it."
"Agreed," Kristian said "But if what she says is true Cyndi needs to know."
