#49 A Precaution

Mission: BUGS OH NO!!
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: current

ON:

With her departure from the Bridge, Commander Green gathered two Security officers to her side after donning her equipment belt and tac holster. Arriving just outside of the Medical bay she ordered the two to remain in the corridor before entering Sickbay proper. Silk was still with Ainkara in the far off corner, and as she approached casually he looked up, his eyes glancing to the sidearm. He got to his feet from the stool he had been sitting on but made no move to block his XO.

"What's this, Commander," he asked.

"Apologies to you both," answered Green. "But, so long as Ainkara is having moments, and has once been a servant to the Iconians, her presence needs to be monitored until we know for sure she is not a threat."

Ainkara made no move to sit up further from the propped up head of the bed. "Am I to be imprisoned, Commander?"

"Not at all," said Green, meaning it. "You will be given quarters to call your own. However, that privilege has a price. If you leave your quarters you will have an escort, any time, day or night. They will not interfere with you unless you give them cause. But, you are to be watched and a pair of guards will maintain a post outside your quarters for the duration of the directive."

Silk's face had been showing irritation, but as Green laid out the plan it softened. "That seems fair enough, Commander. She isn't under duress, just being monitored for security reasons."

Green stayed firm on this. "Fair, or not, this is what will happen until I, or the Commodore, say otherwise." Her own countenance softened as she stepped in next to Ainkara's bed, her voice tone becoming softer and more explanatory than matter-of-fact. "We are not saying you are dangerous on the conscious level, Ainkara. But, with Iconian tech I have seen, we don't know the extent with which they mucked with your mind. You picked up our standard language too quick for my tastes, and ran around the Bridge accessing stations as if you had been in service for years. That means that there is something in there aiding you. Something Iconian, I have no doubt."

"Nor I," agreed Ainkara. "I have explained what I saw within my own eye to Doctor Silk. Try as he might he has found no evidence that my brain has been tampered with. Yet, that spindle appeared IN my eye. Inside of it. He saw it too, from the outside."

"Anything further would have to be gained by invasive procedures, Commander," explained Silk. "With nothing on the medical scanners I can't see putting her through that."

Green gave a sigh. "I see. Be that as it may, there are a pair of guards outside in the corridor. I will send one on their way but the other will need to take up a watch post within Sickbay. They know to stay out of the way, Doctor."

Silk gave a nod of thanks. "I know they do. Once she gets her room assignment I will escort her myself, to let her rest in solitude to think things over. I won't send the guard away, they have their orders too."

"Thank you both for understanding." Green said. "I hate having to do this, Ainkara, but my first priority is ship safety. You are free to move about and if you try to enter a secure area then you will be told by your escort. Please, don't argue with them on that."

"I won't, Commander. Thank you for being honest about it all." Ainkara gave her a slight grin that was both sheepish and anxious all in one.

"Rest easy, Ainkara." Said Green as she clasped the woman's hand in a friendly manner. "If there is something we can do to rid you of Iconian influence then all this will go away. Again, you have my apologies."

"No apology necessary," Ainkara replied. "It is your duty."

Silk's face was lighthearted as he spoke. "You know, there is a way to make her obey or face a cell." Both women looked at him with a bit of surprise.

"Do tell," said Green.

"Swear her in," said Silk, all nonchalant. "An honorary cadet still has to obey Starfleet regulations and Federation law, swearing to do so. If she crosses a line then we have full rights to throw her in the brig. Picard did it for Wesley Crusher, made him an honorary ensign, no less."

Ainkara looked to Green, seeing the Commander was in thought on the matter.

"Tell you what," answered Green. "I'll discuss it with the Commodore and the other department chiefs. If the consensus is yes, to do that, then I will swear her in as a cadet. If they say no, then we go with what we have agreed to already. Is that fair?" She looked at Ainakra as she asked the question.

Ainkara gave a nod and a grin. "Very fair. Please, thank all you speak to for their consideration. I am not in a cage or being tortured."

"Alright," Green smiled. "We have a plan. I'll return to you when I have answers. Until then, enjoy your new quarters. See you later, Sean." With that said Green turned and walked back the way she had come, leaving Sickbay as one security officer came in and stood against a wall on the other side of the room.

Silk patted Ainkara's hand. "See? All things work themselves out eventually. But, you rest for now, I've scanned you enough today. And, here," he dug his palm PADD out of a vest pocket and tapped it a few times to lock down anything classified it could bring up. A few more taps and he opened it to the Academy and regulations for cadets. "Might want to read this for a while. It will help your case."

Ainkara took the PADD, forgetting to say thank you as she began to read and scroll, focusing on being trusted instead of feared.
