BUGS OH NO!!

With all the promotions and position changes either enacted, or forthcoming, Green had decided on another. Not only for her own relief but also to further another career. So, with all that in mind, Ro headed for the main shuttle bay and her target of opportunity. Arriving, and looking towards the niche that held the USS Euphrates, she made her way over with a casual stride. The computer had told her where Kirk was so she had not far to go from where she had been. "Lieutenant Kirk, are those your legs?"
Jim, her body part way under the runabout, had her body from the waste down exposed. "Commander Green?" She pulled herself out from under while lying on the sled for belly work. Seeing her XO she immediately got to her feet. "Aye, Sir. What can I do for you?"
Ro could not help but grin. "Hopefully, a few things. If you're interested, that is."
"Do tell, Sir," said Kirk, now curious as to where this was going.
"You know I man any department as the supervisor while others are away, or incapacitated. Aside from my responsibilities as XO, it can put quite a strain on my time, despite the health and vigor I have. So, I wanted to offer you a chance at leading more than the small craft pilots. Your secondary in Security does you credit for what I have in mind, and I hope you pass those skills onto the personnel you will be supervising. If you take the job, that is."
Kirk arched an eyebrow, a grin forming, waiting for the shoe to drop. "And, what job is that, Commander?"
Green returned the grin. "Assistant Strategic Operations Chief. But, with a kicker. You will be acting chief in that capacity, leaving me to see to other duties and not crowd my day. If there is a DH meeting, you will attend and be the voice for StratOps." Her grin had faded but her eyes were still showing a bit of levity, which was her personality.
Not expecting that at all, Kirk's jaw dropped a smidge before she got it under control. "Are you serious, Commander?"
"I am." Replied Green. "It is your department for all intents and purposes. Your office, your people. I will oversee it as XO, and offer advice and directives where needed until you find your groove. If you prove that the decision was sound then the position of chief will be yours. If you need time to decide then I will expect an answer by the time we arrive at dock."
"No time needed, Exec." Kirk gave a chuckle and smile. "I accept. IS this going to be affective/immediately?"
"As soon as I add it to the ship's log, yes," Green responded, grinning once more. Her hand was already tapping away and she turned it so that Jim could read it. "There you are, Lieutenant. Slotted. Enjoy your new digs." This time she chuckled.
Kirk reached out and shook her XO's hand. "Thank you, Commander. I won't let you down."
After shaking hands and recovering her PADD, Green gave a wink. "See that you don't. But, I have no worries, Jim. We need more departments ready to fight and defend the ship when needed. With your Tactical/Security training, I can see an improvement. Do well enough and I'll speak to some brass about designating a Starfleet Rangers squad, right here on Amandora. Special Operations stuff. This way, you and the marines, alongside Security, will have plenty of weapons to throw at our enemies. If nothing else the Dominion war showed Starfleet that we needed to be a bit more well trained for combat."
"Agreed," said Kirk. "If not for the Klingons we might all be speaking Dominion or Cardassian."
Green gave a nod. "Let's not forget the Romulans. They came in late but they were instrumental in the downfall of the Dominion on this side of the wormhole." Having said that Green prepared to leave. "Anyway, congrats, Lieutenant. I have Crewman Ainkara coming to the Bridge, so I need to get back. See you later."
Jim watched Green walk away as she realized that the XO had said that the Ainkara woman was now crew. Awesome, she thought. We lose great one, yet we gain more. Deciding the Euphrates could wait Jamie Kirk left the shuttle bay and headed for StratOps.
