Not being one to need as much sleep/rest as the humans around her, Ainkara had spent her evening meditating for two hours, then napping for another two. Awakening at 3AM on the dot she then proceeded to access the replicator, now with full permission to do so according to her new rank and privilege. Fingers tapping away, as well as verbal commands to the computer, her new uniform was conceived and constructed. Seeing the folded item and boots atop it she took them from the replicator and got down to her skivvies. Sliding into the new, powder blue catsuit (new Uni pics in bio) made her whole again, that she belonged somewhere once more. Zipping up the back and adjusting to smooth out the bunched material while donning, she then looked in the mirror. The low cut front appealed to her, having been in the white catsuit so long with very little of 'herself' to be shown. In time, as she gained her place and status as Starfleet, she hoped that the Commander and Commodore would let her vary the colors of her outfits. A white catsuit with Starfleet paraphernalia would be ideal. But, for now, she knew she had to start somewhere.
As per this morning's directive from Commander Green, she was to report to the Bridge before going to the SCI department. So, doing as she was told Ainkara left her quarters and went to the lift. Within moments she stepped out of the aft section lift, seeing the eyes turn her way and nods of greeting from those around the command deck. Some even gave her grins of congratulations. Again, she felt she had found her place in the world. Going forward and around and down to the Bridge section proper, seeing both Green and Song, she stood tall. "Crewman Apprentice Ainkara, reporting as ordered, Commander Green."
Ro looked up from her report reading and a smile crossed her face. Sliding her PADD into its holster she stood up. "Well met, Crewman Ainkara." She then looked to Cyndi, who was eyeing the Voran woman. Though Green had sent a report to Cyndi about the new addition, she suspected that the Commodore had not gotten that far yet. "Commodore, I would like to introduce you to Crewman Apprentice Ainkara, sworn in as of 1735 hours last night, by Admiral Stone himself. The report has been filed but I wanted her to come up and speak to you as a member of the family."
Cyndi stood and turned to face her "I did get the report, welcome aboard, I'm Commodore Cyndi Song the commanding officer of this ship."
Ainkara gave a bow from the neck, not sure what salutation to use other than that. "Thank you for the welcome, Commodore. I know who you are, even though we have not met until now, officially. I hope you do not find my presence intrusive."
"Not at all," Cyndi said "As for a greeting just saying hello, is more than enough. I'm a little stricter on the bridge. Off the bridge is a different thing."
"Indeed," responded Ainkara. "The command deck should always adhere to stricter discipline."
"I can't argue with that," said Green. She looked at the Commodore. "Cyndi, I haven't read far enough to know the disposition of Mister McTavish and his wife. Ainkara is listed as a science officer so, meeting a department head for SCI would be beneficial. If he is busy with preparing for his transfer then I think that duty should fall to Herculoid as the Assistant Chief. Thoughts?"
"Herculoid is a good choice as Lieutenant McTavish will be leaving the ship once we reach the star base. Ainkara Lieutenant Herculoid is the assistant science chief and is over on the main science station," Cyndi said
Tara hearing her name checked the sensors, not finding anything out of the ordinary walked over to where they were "Welcome, I'm Tara Herculoid the assistant science chief, welcome."
"A pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant Herculoid," said Ainkara, in greeting her new supervisor. "And, thank you. I have read much and learned much, but as per the Admiral, I still have much to learn. As a crewman, I will do so with all intent and focus."
"You do and it won't take you long, the commodore taught science at the academy before she got this command and I'm more than willing to help as well. My door is always open. I have a policy, no questions is dumb no matter how silly you may think it is," Tara said.
"Among my people the only foolish question is the one not asked," replied Ainkara. "So, I do understand that sentiment, Sir. With over 100 laboratories available on board, would it be too much to ask if one could be assigned to myself, for when I wish to conduct experiments and research?" Her eyes went around to all three when she asked. "As with all experiments I do not want another to come in unannounced and start changing things that could ruin them."
Green gave her own quick response. "If you need a lab just let the Lieutenant know and she can assign one. As long as proper precautions are in place, I myself have no issue. Lieutenant, Commodore, your take?"
James walked onto the Bridge to grab a personal item that he had left at SCI 1 when he saw Song, Green, and Tara talking to a Crewman that he had heard would be coming into the Science Department. His first reaction was to go and introduce himself but since he would be gone soon he thought better of it; besides Tara could handle things just fine and with that James turned and left the Bridge.
Being familiar with the Bridge personnel, being around them daily, the Core sensed McTavish enter the compartment. He had been quiet, gathered what he needed to, and departed. Ro had glanced his way as he turned to the lift, watching his back as he entered, spun about, and the doors closed. She kept her glance subtle, not wishing to call attention to James, a man she had come to like and admire and, his wife was another she would miss. What made their departure easier for Ro's heart was the fact that they were beginning a new phase in their lives, one that was much more positive. And, with all the others they had lost, it was nice to know that not all those leaving were doing so due to an untimely death. She wished them both well, no matter where life took them.
Tara had seen James come onto the bridge but considering he was leaving felt no reason to call him over. "I'll be happy to assign you a lab. There is one on the same deck as the main lab that is unused. It's not a big one but it's yours if you want it. The commodore and I each have our own labs."
Ainkara nodded in gratitude. "Thank you, Lieutenant. I do not need a large lab, just one I can seclude myself while working. You are all so gracious, it is appreciated."
Green smiled. "You made a choice in life, and we will do all we can to make you comfortable. The quarters you have now will remain yours. No need to move since we have plenty of extra quarters for guests, unless the Commodore has other ideas."
Cyndi shook her head, "The quarters are fine, I'll make the necessary adjustment for both the lab and the quarter assignment. You have any questions look myself, the commander or Lieutenant Herculoid know and well take care of it. That said it's time to get underway. Helm set course for Star Base Pegasus, inform Commander O'Connnell of out heading and match the course and speed. Warp five, engage."
Glad to hear the orders given to get underway at warp, Green spoke to Ainkara. "You are free to do as you please, now. No one escorting you. Enjoy your new life, Crewman Ainkara." She looked at Herculoid next. "Thank you, Tara, for aiding. It means a lot to me."
"Anytime commander," Tara said looking to Ainkara "Your good to head to your lab, remain up here or go to your quarters. I look forward to working with you. And commander I owe you a thank you, it was unexpected."
"No need to thank me, Lieutenant," Ro responded. "Thank yourself. All the actions taken by the team quelled a threat and saved us all from more suffering."
Ainkara, having been told she could freely move about, stepped away from the other three women and went to the SCI II station, and this time was able to set it up HER way, for her own ease of use. Another moment of feeling good about her decision.
Green looked to Cyndi. "If I'm not needed right now, Commodore, would you permit me a few hours downtime? I'm starting to feel a bit overtaxed. I haven't slept, accept for naps, since the battle began and we got to this point."
"Permission granted, this has taken a toll on all of us," Cyndi replied. Once we're at the base we can all relax while the external repairs to the ship are made."
It was a group response at that, with everyone on the Bridge feeling that sentiment. Green nodded and left, with Ainkara not far behind, looking to set up her lab as soon as it was available. Green had put in a report the changes for Kirk so the Commodore could read it at her leisure and be caught up with current crew status before she laid back on her sofa and fell fast asleep.
