After all this time away, it was over Hurd thought to himself as he strolled into the hanger at Starfleet Marine depot on Antares 5. After Finding his shuttle, Hurd stowed his gear and said to the Pilot, a young Ensign, "Set course for the Amandora maximum warp as soon as we clear the Atmosphere". The Ensign nodded in response as Hurd went and sat down in the back, still more thinking to do on his mind.

As the shuttle went to warp a few minutes later, Hurd was already deep in thought. Over the last couple of months he had taken courses in advanced leadership, advanced battlefield theory and tactics, field medicine, and as this training required a elective course, he had chosen to take intermediate Engineering and Damage Control courses, something he had known next to nothing about before. Chuckling to himself, he said, "I have so much new information in my head, its about to explode". Going back to silence, he hoped that the Commodore would approve of his new training and Hurd sincerely hoped he would be welcome home.

After a couple of hours had elapsed, Hurd had fallen into a cat nap, but he was jerked away at the Pilots voice saying, "Sir, we are less than a light year away and have dropped out of warp, do you want to hail your ship or do you want me to do it?" Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, Hurd stood and said, "Leave that to me Ensign". Walking to the comm panel, Hurd pushed a couple of buttons, saying, "Amandora, This is Major Hurd, permission to come aboard?"


"Commodore we're getting a transmission from Major Hurd, he's on shuttle and is requesting permission to come aboard," communications announced

"Tell him permission granted, welcome home and have him report to my ready room once he's settled," Cyndi responded

After landing, Hurd thanked the Ensign who had flown him home and wished him safe travels on his way back. As Hurd grabbed his Trunk and bags and was walking down the shuttle ramp, the Ensign said to him, "Sir, the Commodore requests you to report to her ready room as soon as possible". Hurd nodded and exited the shuttle, making his way to the nearest turbolift, nodding to those he saw along the way, a smile on his face, one. That replaced the usually grim look he had.

After he had entered the lift and punched in his destination in, he sighed as the door shut and the lift took off. The smells, the sights, and sounds were all the same. He smiled, because in his heart he was overjoyed and excited to be home. "Home", he thought for a moment. He, in his long life, had never considered anywhere he had been home, nor did he regard anyone but the people aboard the ship Family. He smiled bigger, again so happy he was home and with his family.
As the lift doors opened on the Bridge, Hurd hefted his trunk on his shoulder, grabbed his duffel bag, and made his way across the Bridge. Tapping the door chime, he waited for permission to enter.

"Come in!" Cyndi called closing her lap top as she waited for the major to enter.

Walking in, Hurd dropped his bag and trunk, snapped to attention, saluted and said, "Major Hurd reporting back aboard Commodore". He held the salute for a moment, them slowly lowered it, relaxing into a parade rest stance. After a moment, he reached into his BDU pockets, pulling a PADD and extending it towards the Commodore. "Those", he said, are my orders to report back aboard, as well as my new certifications in Advanced Leadership, Advanced Battlefield Tactics And Theory, and Intermediate Engineering And Damage Control". He held his hand outstended, waiting for her to take the PADD.

"Welcome back major," Cyndi said taking the PADD "Please have a seat. You've been missed, and you've missed a lot. Captain West has left the ship for now. I've promoted Barnes to captain and marine executive officer. Advanced leadership training I hope that means you'll be willing to take a shift on the bridge? Battlefield tactics could be useful when I get us into something and damage control get with security and engineering and let them know so again when I get us into something you'll be able to help. I'll call someone to come take your trunk and duffel to your office as you could have settled in before reporting. I am glad to have you back. Do you have any questions for me at this time?"

Hurd thought for a moment and said, "Ma'am i
will take all the Bridge Shifts you give me", he said smiling. "I will get with Security and Engineering as soon as possible.". Pausing for a moment he asked, "So if i may, what is Captain Barnes like, and more importantly how have you been?" Cracking his smile Hurd also added, two other things Ma'am, anything changed aboard the ship, and more importantly i have mastered my anger problem, and it will not cause you any further trouble."

"Barnes is a no nonsense officer, his father served under me several years ago. He won't be afraid to speak up. He's a damn fine officer and when Captain West left the ship I promoted Barnes into Marine XO slot. As for me, I'm tired, Commander Green is on a rescue mission, Commander O'Connell is puling double duty as acting XO and Security Chief. I'm pulling eighteen hour days and Doctor Long is going to have my hide when she figures it out," Cyndi replied "I am glad you have your anger issues under control as it's not a good thing for the officers under you and the rest of the officers and crew on this ship to see the third officer with an anger issue. Get settled and I may just take you up on that bridge shift. I'm running on caffeine."

Hurd thought and said, "I'll take, if you allow, the next 8 Alpha Bridge shifts so you can rest". Hurd started to smile and said, "I already like Barns, and with your permission I'll help O'Connell to take the load off with his duties so he's not so overwhelmed, and if i can help in any way with the rescue mission i will". Pausing for a moment he added, "Commodore, I'm already settled in and I'm ready to resume duty immediately".

"I'll take you up on it, get your trunk to your quarters and report back to me and you can take the next shift. As for the rescue Commander Green is off on a rescue on the ant beings planet to rescue he boyfriend, see to the freedom of the crew of the star base. Once they're back on the base we'll head out to rescue the crews of the three ships. We know where they are I just won't break orbit of the star base until the base personal are back aboard and in command. Then I'll call my husband and the skeleton crew over there back," Cyndi said

Nodding, Hurd saluted and said, "Yes Ma'am, give me a half hour and ill return to relive you." Picking up his trunk he asked, "Permission to be Dismissed Ma'am?"

"Dismissed major," Cyndi replied returning the salute "I'll see you in thirty minutes."
