Post Number 15 The Alpha Shift

Posted on Sun May 28th, 2023 @ 11:48pm by Commodore Cyndi Song & Major David Hurd Senior

Mission: Character Development
Location: Main Bridge
Timeline: Current, 0950 Hours

Hurd had, at least for him, made it to his office in record time. Stowing his gear, which ment pretty much dropping his trunk and bag just inside his doors, he grabbed his Gun belt, checked to make sure his .45 was loaded and holstered, and turned around and left. Getting back in the same lift he had exited, he keyed in his destination and it took off.
As the lift moved, thoughts flooded into his mind. The biggest being that the last time he had taken a Bridge shift the Fleeters didnt seem to happy to be taking orders from a Marine. "Of course", he thought to himself, "Back then i was a rude, angry, arrogant jerk". He also thought, with a smile, "I have changed a lot since then, so hopefully this time around i can both do a better job and maybe, just maybe they will like me a little bit more".
A few seconds later the lift doors parted and Hurd made his way onto the Bridge. Looking around, Hurd spotted the Commodore. Walking up to her, he stood at attention, saluted, and said, "Major Hurd reporting for Alpha shift as your relief Ma'am, what are your orders?"

"We're not at any alerts, we're cruising at warp four, just keep us safe. Anything comes up that I need to be aware of contact me and Commander Green. Other than that there's nothing to worry about," Cyndi said returning the salute. "Anyone who does not obey you let me know and I'll deal with them."

"Understood", Hurd said nodding. Taking a look at
around the Bridge, Hurd noticed a few of the crew glaring at him. Turning back to the Commodore he said, "Ma'am two things, if i may ask". Clearing his throat he continued, "The first, are their any special or specific tasks you would like me to accomplish while i have the Bridge?" Lowering his voice and looking down at the deck he added, in a low tone, "I hate to ask this of you, but could you please say something to the Bridge crew because", he said looking back around and seeing the dirty looks he was still getting, "I'm afraid if you don't as soon as you leave nobody will listen to me and id prefer to head off any arguments or disagreements before they start."

"There shouldn't be any dirty looks, glaring at you or anyone questioning your orders," Cyndi said loud enough for the bridge crew to hear. "As for orders, this will be your first bridge shift. I'll take a few hours off to get some sleep, a shower and change of uniform. Then I'll be back. As I said earlier there is nothing pressing going on. Just get the feel of the big chair and as I said anything comes up call me."

"Understood", Hurd said with a smile. Turning, Hurd walked over and sat in the center chair, noting how comfortable it was. Clearing his throat, Hurd said, "Major Hurd has the Bridge. Turning his head towards the Commodore, he said, I'll keep her safe, go get some rest Ma'am." Turning his head back, Hurd again said aloud, "All Stations, Status Report".

Cyndi watched her bridge officers for a few minutes before heading off for some badly needed rest.
