Mission: Wedding Blues And Trouble
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Current

ON:

David had dropped his things off to his quarters and was on his way to see the captain and check in.

He had come to the USS Amandora on a transport vessel. It had been a long ride in tight quarters but he hadn’t minded it too much because he was looking forward to his new position.

David walked off the turbolift and on to the bridge. He headed over to the captains ready room and rang, waiting for permission for entry.

Cyndi hearing the door chime minimized the letter she'd been writing "Come in!"

David entered the ready room, walking across the room and stopping in front of her desk.

“Lieutenant Montgomery reporting for duty as your chief operations officer.” He looked at Captain Song and waited for her reply.

"Welcome aboard, I heard I was getting a new operations chief, Please have a seat while I make this official" Cyndi said as she made the necessary changes to the crew roster.

David sat down and waited patiently. He watched as she worked and said nothing. A person could learn a lot about a command officer by watching them.

Once the necessary adjustments were made Cyndi closed her lap top and looked at David "So how was the trip out? We're a long way out and I imagine that transport was a tad cramped?" she asked

“There were quite a few on board.” David replied. “I found ways to pass the time and it went quicker than I thought it would.” He mostly ate in his small quarters and read tech manuals.
"That's one good thing about a long flight. Have you found your quarters yet?" Cyndi asked

“Yes, Captain.” David replied. “Once I was cleared by the Quartermaster I dropped my things and came straight away here as ordered.” He was ready to get to work and meet his operations crew.

"Tell me why you left the Bridgeton? If you'd like to take the rest of the day off to get used to the ship and department feel free and start fresh in the morning," Cyndi replied "I for one am glad to have you, your record is impressive."

"I am moving steady up in rank." David replied."There was not room for advancement and I was ready for the Chief position. I requested a transfer and was given this position." That was all she was getting from him, it was the truth anyway.

Cyndi nodded "I can relate to that. Everyone needs and wants to advance in ranks and positions. Like I said I'm lucky to have you. There's room here to advance. "

David raised an eyebrow. "You are expecting one of your command officers to be leaving soon?" He was surprised to hear that. From what he knew they were settled in and liked where they served.

"Not a chance, my Exec is Commander Green and I don't know what I'd do without her. She keeps me from being the work a holic I tend to be. Advancement I spoke of is climbing the ranks to full lieutenant and higher," Cyndi said "I feel my officers and crew are a family."

"I see." David replied with a nod. "It sounds like you all are very close." He was a people person but David needed to know a person a while before he started giving out any personal information.

"I like to think so," Cyndi said "Is there anything about me you'd like to know?"

" What is your command style." David got directly to the point. "And what are your expectations of me as your Ops chief."

"You'll find I'm easy to get along with, I have an open door policy with my officers. If there is a problem that can't be resolved come find me. My husband understands how I command the ship and is fine with it. I'm not one of those commanding officers who is better than her officers. I'll get my hands dirty when the need arises. As for what I expect from you is to do your job to the best of your ability. That's all I ask. Cyndi replied

"I always give one hundred percent when I am working." David said quietly. He wasn't bragging or looking to impress, it was simply the truth. David didn't see a problem rising that couldn't be handled between him and another officer. He wondered what the Captain's husband had to do with her command. David guessed time would tell.

Cyndi nodded "I'm sure you do, you'll fit in well with the rest of the officers and I'm looking forward to serving with you."

"Thank you, Captain." David did not perceive any issues with the crew, he rarely met someone he could not work with. He did question how she could know from one meeting that he was a good fit for the ship but David didn't verbally question it.

"Your free to take the rest of the day off to get settled, get used to the ship and start your shift in the morning if you chose to do so," Cyndi said

"I prefer to head to the operations department and check in with my officers first." David informed her. "Introduce myself and then I will unpack and settle in."

"That's fine," Cyndi said "I'll let you get to it and again welcome aboard."

"Thank you, Captain." David couldn't help but wonder if this was a trick. Protocol demanded he wait until she said he was dismissed. He waited for the familiar words.

"Your dismissed," Cyndi said standing

David stood, his eyes meeting the captains. "Yes ma'am." He turned and headed out the door. David could not wrap the captain she claimed to be with the one he had seen before him. Their had been no offer of refreshment or even a handshake. One wondered how she treated family.
