[Quarters]

Lieutenant Wright knew time was of the essence and he had to have a conversation with the Commodore. Tapping his comm "Commodore Song, this is Lieutenant Wright, something has come up and we need to talk as soon as possible" William stated hoping for sooner than later.

Cyndi tapped her com-badge, "I'm in my quarters feel free to head up. I'm free now."

"On my way Commodore" he replied then headed for Cyndi's quarters. Arriving minutes later he palmed the door chime then waited standing tall with his hands clasped behind his waist; a little bit nervous.

[Commodore's Quarters]

Cyndi placed the science journal she'd been reading on the coffee table, got to her feet and headed for the door. Palming she sensor to allow the door to open, seeing William she smiled and stepped back to permit him to enter, "Please come in, can I offer you something to drink?"

Forcing a smile "No thank you Commodore; I just need your ear for a few minutes" he replied then sat on the couch. Looking at Cyndi "There is a matter of some importance I need to let you know about; on a personal level sort of."

"I always have an ear for my officers and crew. What's on your mind?" Cyndi asked

Taking a breath "I'll get right to it.....late last night I received a call from my Mother. She informed me that" then William paused trying to collect himself " There was a Shuttle Transport accident and my Father was among twenty individuals who lost their lives in the accident. I need to get back to Earth as quickly as humanly possible " he explained fighting back his emotions.

"Let me express on behalf of the entire crew that you and your family have out deepest condolences," Cyndi said as she leaned over and picked up a PADD. After checking some information on it, "The Western Star is at Star Base Danvers. She's heading to Earth. I'll contact Captain Adams and let him know that we'll be bringing you to meet with him. Take as much time away as you need. I cannot imagine how you must feel. I'm fortunate to still have both of my parents,"

"Thank you Commodore for your understanding and condolences " then he paused for several seconds before continuing "There is another item I need to let you know about" taking another breath "After spending a good portion of the overnight hours pondering my future here......I have decided there are more important things in life than duty. Therefore Commodore Song I hereby relinquish my Commission as Operations Chief and as a Star Fleet Officer effective immediately. I have already spoken to my Assistant and she is more than willing to fill the vacuum until the Brass sees fit to send you a replacement for myself. I apologize for the short notice but my place now is with my family" William explained.

"While I hate to see you go I do understand. Family comes first. A star ship can be blown up as we know, I have a family, and there is nothing I won't do for them. I'll make the necessary arrangements and see who headquarters decides to send me. Your a good officer and you've been a valuable officer" Cyndi said "Please keep in touch from time to time. If your ever near Klavor you and your family have an open invitation for a visit."

William was blown away by Cyndi's accolades as well as her invitation "Thank you Ma'am and I'll remember your invitation for the future" then standing "Thanks for everything Commodore and I wish you, this ship, and her crew all the best" he replied with sincerity in his voice. With a smile William turned and left her quarters.

[Western Star]

The next day William Wright boarded the Ship and was given guest quarters for the duration of his trip back to Earth. Sitting he thought to himself "Now I'm truly free and can have a normal life; and who knows maybe I'll find sweet young woman to marry and have a family.
