{ON}

Amethyst walked into Sickbay aboard ship with Will, she was still clinging to him and had done all the way back. She'd never had to face a hostage ordeal before and she was still pretty shaken up by the whole ordeal. She looked at Hurd who was lying being treated, he'd saved her life. "Will the Captain be alright?"

Kristian not looking up nodded as she worked "He will be, yes I'm repairing the damage. The wound was deep but missed any vital organs or he'd not be alive. He's lost a lot of blood." Kristian finished her work, set the durmo regenator aside, picked up the hypo-spray and after loading it with a strong pain killer pressed it against Hurd's neck. Picking up a sheet she covered him as she'd had to cut away part of his uniform. Turning Long picked up her tri-coder and walked over to Amethyst and ran several scans on her just as Cyndi walked in. "Lieutenant I want you on that bio-bed," Kristian ordered.

H'iri had accepted a transfer to the station as assistant chief medical and now Doctor Long would be attending to Amethyst.

" I'll help you up Imzadi."

Amethyst nodded and offered a brief smile as she accepted her husband's help up onto the biobed. She lay back and made herself as comfortable as she could whilst waiting for the new doctor to look her over. "He didn't hurt me" She looked at Will then back at Long, "It was more frightening than anything else."

Kristian ran several scans and studied the readings overhead on the monitors before closing her tri-coder "No he didn't hurt you but he could have. You've put your unborn baby in stress. I'm keeping you here overnight for observation. What ever is causing that bark on you to grow this added stress is making it grow faster as well."

"Will she be okay?" Cyndi asked "What about Captain Hurd?"

"They'll both be okay commodore,I've mended his wound and gave him something for pain. I'm going to let him wake up on his own. He's lucky that the knife wasn't two inches closer as he'd not be here. As for Mrs. Raymond I highly recommend she refrain from away missions until after she has this baby. I don't want to make it an order but I will if I have to," Kristian said.

Amethyst looked at both. “I’ll do whatever Doctor Long says Captain, my daughter is what’s important.” She looked at her arms which were starting to look more like tree limbs with the bark that was growing on her skin. Her attention was only drawn away when the Sickbay doors opened and Kal ran in followed by Christina.

“Mummy!!” The five year old ran to his mother’s side concerned she was in Sickbay.

“Hey pumpkin!” Amethyst smiled as she offered her son a hug.

“Sorry!” Christina gave an apologetic look. “He overheard that you’d been brought here and he wanted to see you.”

“It’s fine Chrissy, don’t worry!” Amethyst smiled. “I’m afraid I have to stay here tonight sweetheart so you’ll have to keep daddy company tonight.” She gentle fluffed her son’s hair playfully. “I’m sure the two of you can have lots of fun.

Kristian knelt in front of the little boy "My name's Kristian, worried about mummy? She's going to be just fine I just want to keep her here so I can make sure mummy and baby sister are going to be okay." she reached into the pocket of her lab coat and produced a large sucker. "I give these out to all the good kid that come in here. Would you like it and perhaps I can also arrange for you to hear the baby's heart beat, would you like that?"

Kal's face lit up at the sight of the lollipop and an opportunity to meet his little sister for the first time. "Yes ... Please!" He smiled as he looked at Kristian then at his father. "Can daddy stay too?"

Kristian nodded as she got to he feet and walked over to where Amethyst was laying, picking up a small monitor she placed on the councilors stomach and after a couple of adjustments the heartbeat of the baby could be heard. "That sound you hear Kal is your sisters heartbeat, what do you think?" Kristian asked as she listened to the heartbeat carefully.

Will embraced Kal and watched as he had never been a part of any of this stuff.

"But now I'm afraid both of my patients need rest," Kristian said "Anything happens I'll contact you."

Will nodded and led Kal out of the room.

Amethyst waved Kal and Will goodbye before resting her head back on the biobed. “So tell me the truth Doctor” She looked at Kristian. “How long do I have before I’m nothing more than a bark covered tree like Brol?”

"I think due to the rate this is growing not more than a day two at the most," Kristian said "I hope you've learned something from this."

“The fact that I was an idiot to eat that fruit, and it’s sped up the growth of a baby Will and I didn’t know we were expecting, that and the fact that Flora is now a hybrid Brol.” Amethyst sighed. “I was stupid and I know it! Good enough?!” She gave Kristian a teary eyed look before looking away again.

"Hey, I didn't mean to upset you," Kristian said gently "While I'm sure the being had good intentions. I did something stupid once and it resulted in a crashed shuttle and a shattered ankle. We learn from our mistakes. I'll take good care of you and little Flora as well."

Amethyst wiped her eyes and offered a smile. “Thank you.” Her attention was drawn to Hurd as he started to stir.

Groaning, Hurd slowly opened his eyes. His vision was blurry, and his side hurt. Then the memory of what happened hit him like a ton of bricks. Sitting bolt upright, which sent lightning bolts of pain through him, Hurd looked over at the Lieutenant and said, concerned, "Lieutenant are you alright, where is that man!???".

“I’m fine Captain” Amethyst offered a smile. “I haven’t seen the man since we left the cargo bay on the station, I think he’s still on the station.” She seriously hoped that’s where hlipe was, she wasn’t in a hurry to set eyes on her captor again.

Cyndi had been standing off to one side when Captain Hurd woke up and asked his question, walking over to where he lay "Captain I heard your question and in answer to your question he's been turned over to base security."

Kristian walked over to Hurd and scanned him "I gave you something for pain earlier, do you need another pain killier? I've mended the damage and your lucky it wasn't worse. You'll be sore for a couple of days, but you should make a full recovery."

"No, what I want", he said looking at the Commodore, is to question that man." Pulling himself up into a sitting position, Hurd noticed both his Body Armour and sidearm were missing. Growing angry, he said, "Where's my gear, I'm leaving"

Amethyst sensed the change and looked towards Hurd. “Captain, aren’t you supposed to be protecting me?” She looked at Hurd hoping his sense of duty would keep him in Sickbay where the doctor could keep an eye on him.

"Captain you'll leave when I say your leaving," Kristian said firmly "As for your gear it's safe. I had to remove it to treat you, your armor and weapon are secured and will be returned to you."

"Listen to Doctor Long and yes I do want you to question the prisoner. But not until she releases you," Cyndi replied

Looking at everyone assembled, Hurds fury grew until his eyes flipped to a deep, dark crimson red in color. Speaking with a cold, devoid of emotion voice, Hurd said, "Doctor, you will release me now or will leave on my own". "I will not stay here and if you refuse to clear me I will have one of my medical do it, after which I will be logging a formal complaint withe head of Starfleet Medical, and don't test me, because that's exactly what I will do".

Kristian placed her hands on her hips "Captain Hurd you go right ahead and report me to Starfleet Medical, and in doing so make sure you tell them how badly your stab wound was and why I'm keeping you overnight for observation. I can make it an order and you know it. Push me further and I'll contact Major General Narla Long. I'm more than sure you don't want her up your ass. So lie back and do as told." Kristian said firmly

Hurd narrowed his eyes, and said, "This isn't over Doctor". Laying back, he just wanted out, wanted at the man who started all this. He was, by now, full of fury, so much so he was shaking.

"I'm glad we understand each other," Kristian said loading a hypo-spray and pressed it against his neck to calm him down. "Just relax and I'll spring you in the morning."

“At least I’ll have some company” Amethyst offered a relaxed smile. “I was expecting to be the only patient here.” She sat herself up a little nodding her thanks as a nurse popped a cushion underneath her for comfort. She looked at her arms which were rapidly being covered with bark, she was glad Kal wasn’t in Sickbay to see his mother turning into this.

Kristian picked up her medical tri-coder and scanned Amethyst again "Your not going to be able to deliver the baby normally. I'm going to have to do a fetal transfer."

"I have to admit it Doctor Long your not afraid to stand up to anyone," Cyndi commented "I'll leave you to your patients," with that Cyndi nodded to both Hurd and to Amethyst and headed out

Amethyst looked at Kristian concerned, “A fetal transfer? What does that mean?” She hadn’t even started planning the birth yet so she wasn’t prepared for other outcomes.

"A fetal transfer will use a fetal transporter, beam your baby directly from you into a isolet. I've done it several times and there is nothing for you to worry about," Kristian assured her

Amethyst nodded but she was worried nonetheless. "Thank you doctor" she rolled herself onto her side and closed her eyes to get some sleep for now there was little else she could do.

Hurd just lay there, listening to the conversation between the others and still wildly angry being forced to stay. Not knowing if she were awake still or not, Hurd said, "Lieutenant, I'm sure everything will be ok." Flipping back through events in his mind, Hurd started scrutinizing his actions, seeing if there was anything he could have done differently."

Kristian knew Captain Hurd was upset with her and in a way she didn't blame him. But as serious as the stab wound had been this was necessary.

The next morning Kristian entered sick bay and received the report from the third shift medical staff that all three patients were fine and had rested comfortably. Thanking him Long went into her office, unlocked the cabinet in there that held Captain Hurd's body armor and his weapon. Double checking to find the safety setting still on the weapon he headed over to his bio bed first and handed him his armor and weapon. "I'm releasing you, I want you to take it easy yet and if you have any issues with the stabbing come back and see me." she then walked over to where Amethyst was "I'm releasing you as well, but should anything happen contact me right away."
