Post Number 6 Briefing Time

Posted on Mon Jan 25th, 2021 @ 10:13am by Commodore Cyndi Song & Lieutenant Tara Herculoid PhD & Major David Hurd Senior & Lieutenant Damien Saunders & Lieutenant T’Mia Rahl & Lieutenant Commander Kristian Long & Lieutenant JG Dimitri Pronichev & 1st Lieutenant Greg Jackson & Captain Alesha Rivers

Mission: Planet Savai
Location: Conference Room
Timeline: Current

ON:

Cyndi stepped onto the bridge and walked to communications "Call the following officers to the conference room we have new orders. Lieutenant Herculoid, Commander Raymond, Major Hurd, Lieutenant Saunders, Lieutenant Raymond, Doctors Bjorgo and Long, Lieutenant Kahn, Lieutenant Hastings, Lieutenant Pronichev, Lieutenant Nige, Lieutenant Fitzgerald, First Lieutenants Jackson and Rivers."

Nodding the communications officer carried out Cyndi's orders as she headed for the conference room.

Greg paused in the reassembly of the phaser rifle in front of him as his presence was requested in the conference room. With practiced movements the rifle was reassembled and placed in its rack. With a nod to the Sargeant in charge of the armory he headed up to the bridge pausing to grab a cup of coffee from a replicator. Entering he slipped into a seat, “Ma’am,” he said with a nod of his head toward the ships CO.

Getting up from her bridge seat shortly after her name was called Amethyst made her way to the conference room. Walking in she smiled warmly to Song and Jackson before taking a seat next to where Will would be sitting.

Bjorgo and Kahn, as was expected these days, came in together, discussing a topic between themselves. "...and you ran the Security scans. I'm telling you, Liza, that pod is ready to open, but it won't open. There are absolutely no contagions of any kind..." Tore paused mid-sentence, giving a wry grin to the others. "Discussing our guest in isolation. Apologies." They took their seats next to each other.

Amethyst looked curiously at Bjorgo “You have someone in a pod?” She was pretty curious as to who it could be.

"We do," answered Bjorgo. "In the isolation chamber. An alien sarcophagus or, stasis pod, for a better assessment. It's just kinda coffin-shaped." He gave a sheepish grin.

Will entered too as he had just come from the bridge. Sitting closer to the top of the table he awaited the Commodore to begin.

Damien had entered the large conference room, along with his replicated hot mug of coffee, holding it in his stainless steel mug. Beside were a few engineering padds that he had been working on.

“Commodore,” Saunders had given a sharp one-off salute of respect.

Taking a seat near the free sections, he had sat down. Setting out his padds, he had remarked to Doctor Bjorgo. “I think I overheard isolation.” Damien had let his eyes squint curiously before shaking it off. “No. Nothing is being isolated, no alien. Nothing on this ship.” He clasped his hands.

Hurd had only been a few decks below when he received his orders. Making his way to the conference room, he saluted the Commodore before taking up a position in a corner.

Alesha had just finished a flight simulator run in the Delta when the call for her to report to the briefing room came in. Tossing her helmet onto the seat on the Delta and closing the hatch made her way to the briefing room, seeing the major she saluted him and took up a position not far from where he stood."

Kristian walked in a few seconds later with Tara and both took seats curious as to what this was about.

Pronichev had also come from the Armory, but stayed a minute or so behind Jackson, finalizing a repair checklist he had made. He hurried in, nodding to the Commodore, and took a seat at the far end of the room.

Never having been one to give two-shits about appearances and rumors, Liza got up and moved around the table to sit next to Saunders. "Boo," she said to him in a quiet tone so as not to bother the others, sitting down with a smile. Keeping the tone low she asked a query as she leaned over to Damien. "I forgot my pencil when I got called to class, may I?" She chinned towards one of his PADDs lying on the table before him.

Bjorgo watched Kahn, the slightest of grins on his face, as he kept his eyes wandering casually from face to face. He and Liza were two peas in a pod, had hit it off spectacularly as friends. And, now, they were the best of friends. They were Rocky and Bullwinkle, Abbot and Costello, Barton and Romanov; two people who were family to one another, and relied on each other to always be able to bounce off of the other for support. It was a rare thing.

Saunders had looked at his padd’s. There were two. He needed them both.

Damien rolled his eyes to his self. Only to have a slight wink, as he shifted his free padd across to Kahn. He mumbled. “You break it, you bought it lady.” Damien grunted. How could he pay attention now?!

Will smiled in Amethyst direction as he awaited the Commodores remarks.

Cyndi stood and activated the holographic viewer and turned to face her assembled officers "we'll get started and anyone who comes in later I'll brief. Admiral Snow has given us orders we're to proceed to the Planet Savai, the coordinates have already been sent to helm. The planet has asked for admittance into the Federation. Not very much is known about the planet. The admiral has a funny feeling about this as he doesn't think its all above board." Cyndi showed a view of the planet "As you can see it's got all four seasons and from what he understands the beings who live there are large cat like creatures that walk upright," Cyndi switched the view to show the beings that lived there.

Amethyst studied the briefing curiously. “They look a lot like Caitians, any chance they’re a related species?” She looked at Song curiously.

"If they are related to the Caitians that will remain to be seen. That's all the information I have at this point," Cyndi commented .

" Cats? Make sure we wear tick repellent." Will piped up as he had just gotten over an alien lyme disease.

Amethyst gave her husband a smile before looking back at Song. “So we’re more or less going in blind?”

Cyndi nodded "Pretty much, but remember everyone we are in an uncharted of space. And as far as the ticks are concerned I doubt we'll have that worry there. Science I will want probes out as we get closer. Lieutenant Rivers are your pilots ready?"

Alesha nodded "They are sir, just tell me what you want us to do."

" Captain I will prepare my away team as well." Will assumed. " With your permission I will include the ships Diplomatic officer Mr Tor?"

"I'm going to want Major Hurd to lead an away team as well. Commander you'll take ships security with you along with the science chief, the diplomatic officer and the ACMO. Major you'll lead with some marines, Doctor Bjorgo and the assistant science chief," Cyndi said

Amethyst looked at Cyndi. “Permission to join the away team Commodore? My senses, and experience as a Counselor may come in handy.”

"Not yet," Cyndi replied "This is my no means the away teams, its just who I want on them and who is leading them. Major Hurd and Commander Raymond will no doubt add to their teams as we get closer. But for now I want you on the ship."

Amethyst nodded as Cyndi spoke, “Yes ma’am.”

Damien had nodded. He was listening. As per usual, Engineering would be where needed. Saunders didn’t currently see a reason why he should be planetary side. He would love to go, but he would not proposition his own Commodore’s sound reasoning. If this civilization wanted to join the Federation, he hoped they would bring a peaceful influence.

His head still lowered slightly, Hurd spoke. "Permission to insert FORCON Teams via Helldiver?", He asked, sliding a PADD across the table.

Cyndi picked up the PADD and read what the major had given her "I'll permit it,"

" COMMODORE are we expecting issues with these people? No disrespect Major but sending marines to an away team is not standard protocol." Will inquired.

"With respect Commander", Hurd snarled, "That's not your choice to make, it's the Commodores".

"Gentlemen!" Cyndi said "Commander in answer to your question, I don't know what to expect. As I stated a few minutes ago, Admiral Snow does not believe this is all above board and given what we've encountered so far out here I'm inclined to agree with him. That's why I want the fighters to investigate as we get closer and science will send out probes."

" I meant no insult. I respect the Second Officers dual role. As Executive Officer it is my job to point out the potentials possible. I apologize for my outburst Commodore." Will replied.

"It is," Cyndi agreed "This is one of the reasons briefings are held so everyone can give his or her input."

"Then might I suggest not putting all our cards on the table," Greg said speaking from his seat, "You're showing them everything we have to play with if we deploy both fighters and Marine assets. Keeping a couple of cards close to our chest might be needed if everything is not above board. With all due respect to Security, if they think that's the best we have to offer a Marine strike team would be a rude awakening same as if they believe shuttles are the best we have, a sudden deployment of fighters and runabouts could make them hesitate or not assign enough forces in the first place."

Cyndi nodded "Good point lieutenant."

Lieutenant Pronichev decided to speak up. "Would there be any benefit in me joining the away team? As a tactical officer I could fulfill the Marines' protocol if didn't want to send them down there. We have very similar training."

"Major, you and Lieutenant Pronichev beam down in civilian attire and act like tourists. Standard phasers and keep them concealed. As Lieutenant Jackson pointed out no need to let them know just what we have at our disposal. Commander Raymond take your away team and beam down and report back on what you find."

"Yes, Commodore. I will call a quick away team briefing following this meeting." Will replied.

Amethyst didn’t like to admit it but she had butterflies, marriage added a whole new level of concern when Will was going off ship without her. She did her best not to show it but Will knew her well enough to know when she was hiding her feelings.

"I'd just like to add," Saunders entered the conversation after listening. "If the away teams could run some passive EMF scans, see what sorts of technology levels the civilation has, would be beneficial for me to review. It would be interesting to add to the Federation Dossier." Damien had added.

"Mr. Saunders we will try to avail that with our team." Will assured.

"I'll have a tricorder as well." Pronichev mentioned, "It'll be concealed, so I'll have to be quick, but I'll get some scans done."

"Good enough there," Cyndi said "You and the major will be tourists so make sure you blend in."

"It shall be done done", Hurd replied in a off voice. "But I must register a protest, I am not a tourist, nor do I do undercover work well, I am a hammer". With that, Hurd fell silent and dissapeared back into the shadows.

"Major would you rather remain aboard the ship and I assign another marine to go undercover?" Cyndi asked.

Will listened as he thought about the incident with Kordell. Truly he was a hammer.

" Major sometimes we have to work outside our comfort zones. You have my confidence." Will inspired hoping to give Hurd his trust.

Kelliza Kahn put in her two credits worth as the others finally quieted down. "Sending armed, and armored, individuals on the first meet is, in my opinion, daft. Starfleet is not a guns first government, yet you wish to paint us as such. Have the marines dress in something a bit more Starfleet in appearance, everything else they need should be on their equipment belts."

Bjorgo nodded and sat up. "Exactly. If we show we're about a physical altercation, then all peace talks may get nixed before they even start. This is the Federation, last I checked. Can we, at least, act like it?"

" FOLKS if the Commodore recommends this it is for just cause," Will added.

Amethyst looked at Cyndi. “Commodore we need to learn a lot more about their culture and beliefs, it would help us understand how best to meet with them. They may find weaponry of any sort an outright act of war for all we know. We need to try and avoid any misunderstandings.”

The XO looked at his wife and hoped she could read his thoughts. (She knows what she is doing Amethyst)

Amethyst looked towards her husband offering a smile, then looked back at Song. “Forgive me Commodore, I was just offering alternative suggestions.”

"For now the only away team that will go to the planet will be the one that Commander Raymond will lead. He'll select his team. The rest of us will remain aboard and monitor things until such time when we'll feel more comfortable in sending more down. Commander one security officer. No one else will be armed but security," Cyndi replied.

" Aye aye Commodore." Will responded.

Hurd was infuriated. Walking to the door, he looked at the Commodore and said, "I'll accept any orders given to me". Looking at the rest of the room, he added, "Dont you dare tell me how to order or run my men, because their will trouble." With that, he walked out, the doors closing behind him.

"So, Commander." Saunders questioned. "That tick, it was only found on you.... Correct?" Damien then gawked his eyes and turned his head down to his engineering padds.

Greg pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes as the Major stormed off. He opened his eyes after the doors closed before looking at the Commodore, “The ships Marines will be ready for what ever you need from us, ma’am.”

Amethyst looked towards Cyndi. “I’ll speak with Major Hurd Commodore.”

"Thank you lieutenant but it's better if I speak to him. Besides I have a plan," Cyndi said

Amethyst nodded. “I will be seeing the Major anyway, he’s overdue for an evaluation but I won’t mention what happened here.” She offered a smile.

Liza stood up gruffly, walking around the table towards the door. "Apologies, Commodore, but as Security Chief, diplomacy ALWAYS come first. Next time I will remain quiet." She walked out of the room.

Bjorgo blew out a breath and stood up. "Well, that was fun. As CMO, diplomacy. We never said they shouldn't go armed, we said to have them wear a more Starfleet style uniform to not appear as militaristic. It got twisted and thrown back in our faces. As a department head offering his CO council, I am insulted." He walked out the door, throwing back over his shoulder. "I'll be in Sickbay." The door closed.

Greg gave a shake of his head mumbling about next briefing to add whiskey into his coffee, “Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe we are going with the diplomacy option first.”

Damien turned to Greg and laughed. "When we are dismissed, I think I will fill a flask and keep er' handy."

Will then approached the Commodore for more input.

" What else did Admiral Snow tell you about Savai? " Will probed.

"You pretty much know what I do, the admiral is a little uneasy about this planet," Cyndi said looking around the room "Any other questions or comments?"

" I will have my away team briefing following this one." Will replied.

"No Ma'am. I guess you know where I will be if you need me." He then reached for his padd and left back to Engineering.

Cyndi frowned, four officer had left without being dismissed, something she'd deal with later. Not getting any further responses "Okay all dismissed, I've got some damage control to do."
