"Commodore incoming transmission from Lieutenant McKeon," communications announced
"It's about time, I was starting to get nervous, on screen," Cyndi ordered.
Alister appeared on the screen wearing a local garment, “I believe we might have a clue to finding the missing station chief, I’ll be leading my team out momentarily.” He glanced off to the side, “1st Lieutenant Jackson has got his Marines dug in and plans to call down the medical staff shortly to start setting up in the embassy’s basement. I also understand the diplomats should be ready to arrive on the ship soon for talks.”
"Guest quarters are ready, I have them on separate decks, cargo bay two is ready for the talks," Cyndi replied "How are things down there?"
“Quiet for right now, the capital has been locked down under martial law and the rebels have slowed their pace slightly once their coup de main attempt failed. I expect fighting to break out tomorrow morning in the outskirts. Jackson thinks the government forces will fight a withdrawing action back into the city bogging them down in a brutal city fight has both sides push more reinforcements into the area.”
"Are there any injured? Medical is on standby and I have a cargo bay ready for triage," Cyndi said "How serious are things down there? When the diplomats begin to arrive will they beam up or come via shuttles?"
“Right now looks like the bulk of casualties are military in nature, I’m not sure if we should be taking active combatants at this time local medical resources are coping at the moment. So far combat has seen limited heavy weapons fire but Jackson informs me ruins are easier to defend then an actual city so might be more of an informed choice then it seems. As for the diplomats yes they’ll be arriving in shuttles recommend strongly we put out our fighters to take over escort once they breech atmosphere and let it be known we’ll fire on any fighter that looks to be pursuing the shuttles.”
"I'll inform Lieutenant Rivers and have her launch the fighter squadron. As for everything else I'll inform medical to standby and wait, science has found a way to track cloaked ships," Cyndi said.
“Good to hear,” Alister replied before glancing off the screen and then motioning.
Greg stepped into frame giving the Commodore a nod of his head, “I’ve got the embassy as secure as I can make it without tearing down buildings outside the compound to open up killing zones. I’m requesting the medical team beam down as soon as able. The bunker in the basement is being set up for medical.”
"I'll have them beam down, send me the coordinates and I'll get medical down. They'll be armed just in case," Cyndi replied "Orders are on stun unless that changes,"
“Yes, ma’am we’ll set to stun until they someone breaches the compound, gloves will have to come off then,” Greg replied with a nod, “That or they bring in some armor can’t crack that with anything set to stun. I’ll keep the casualties down to a minimum.”
"Doctors Bjorgo and Long are phaser certified, I'm sure the two other medical officers coming along are as well. Both of them have told me that while they've taken an oath to save lives they both are ready to take one should things require it," Cyndi said "I'll inform them and have them along with the fighters ready."
“Thank you ma’am,” Greg replied with another nod, “If you’ll excuse me need to check on the perimeter see if those bushes have been ripped out yet.” He exited the frame helmet moving back to his head as he headed outside.
Alister glanced back at the comm screen, “I feel confident the Marines will hold. How is the good Major doing?”
"I didn't accept his resignation, I told him he needs anger management and to see the counselor and to step up and take a bridge shift he is after all the second officer. I told him that kind of behavior is unacceptable," Cyndi commented "He's agreed so time will tell."
“Time will tell in the end,” Alister glanced once more to the side and gave a nod of his head, “It’s about time for us to start making our move before the curfew begins here in the city, we’ve seen plenty of traffic after but no use getting caught by the locals sniffing around after we should be safe and back in the embassy. You have anything else for me?”
"All I need are the coordinates and I'll send medical down and have Rivers scramble the fighters," Cyndi said
“Jackson was saying the main entrance will do for a beam in site, he’s got pattern enhancers already in place.” Alister replied.
"I think we're good, fighters will scramble, I'll get medical down there. Let me know when to expect the first shuttle carrying the diplomats," Cyndi said.
“A few more hours at best they’re still arguing about who arrived first how many escorts, and flight paths,” Alister replied with a snort, “No one wants to allow a shuttle to overfly a potential battlefield and get a free shot at gathering recon data in the guise of a diplomatic flight.”
"It's a power struggle," Cyndi said "I have a suggestion and that is have both sides take off at the same time but from different places. They can arrive onboard at the same time and in two different shuttle bays."
"I'm pretty sure that what's going to be agreed to in the end, but all the diplomatic posturing needs to be done first," Alister replied with a nod of his head, "Oh I get the power struggle side of it, neither can appear weak, especially if it means looking weak to the Royalist faction, they can tip the balance in favor of either of the main players."
"We need to get these talks started. I'll get the preparation started," Cyndi said.
“Sounds good,” Alister said with a final nod of his head, “My team needs to head out as well, I’ll stay in touch. Jackson’s not sure how well comm badges are going to work for long range communication once both sides start to jam, but he’s confident the embassy has enough power to punch thru a transmission to the ship.” Alister turned from the display as he powered down the communication terminal and glanced at his team, “Let’s move out and get going last thing I want it to be stuck in the middle of a city fight without having the Marines around me.”
"Keep me posted, you need anything contact me," Cyndi responded
