#88 Orders

Posted on Thu Dec 15th, 2022 @ 11:16am by Captain Rogue Green {Meji} & Captain Sean Silk

Mission: BUGS OH NO!!
Location: Planet Tuura
Timeline: current

ON:

The crew of the USS Euphrates, with Green in command of the away team now, had all changed back into their uniforms. Silk did as normal, his dark brown marine undershirt tucked in and the engineer's vest with pockets full of medical devices. The other three also went with the standard vest variant, all wearing their mock-neck red shirts with the zipper down all the way at the front. It was casual but also marked them as those here to aid the people of Tuura. Not that their appearance, physically, did not already do that.

Silk had been working in the now moved Euphrates, in the aft section with the aft hatch/ramp down. Hours upon hours he had been at it, so much so that dark circles began to appear under his eyes, the eyes themselves now blotched red with the strain of looking into microscopes and reading from other devices.

Kirk and Resch had both voiced their concern over the Doctor's condition. Fourteen hours straight, not allowing himself breaks, was a bit much, and Marcus pointed out that the more he pushed himself the higher the chance for mistakes. Green could not disagree with their assessment of the medical officer so she went into the Doctor's lab to speak with him while he was looking into another microscope. "Doctor, we need to talk."

"Not now, Commander," stated Silk, his focus on what he was viewing. "I may have found a connection to why these people are getting sick."

"Doctor, I am ordering you to stop what you are doing and take a rest period."

Silk's face came up as he stood up straight, his eyes ablaze with fury as he looked at his XO. "To blazes with that, Sir! You can't just order medical to stop wha..."

"The hell I can't!" Green's voice came out loud and forceful, with intent. "You didn't sleep much on the trip, and haven't slept since we arrived. Will it do any good, all your research, if you are too tired to see any mistakes? Hmm?"

The natural reaction for the Doctor was to fire back but even with his brain being as tired as it was, he also found her assessment to be sound. Silk took in a large breath and let it out to calm himself. "You're right, Ro. Absolutely. Apologies for my...disrespect."

Ro stepped in and placed a hand on his shoulder, looking him in the eye. "Sean, you are a fine physician and damn fine officer. But, even you have limits. I know you are aching to help these people, as we all are, but you will do them no good if you collapse from exhaustion." Her hand left his shoulder after a brief squeeze. "Take eight hours and sleep, all I am saying."

Nodding agreement Silk's eyes met her and some of his levity had returned as he grinned at her. "How about five or six? Nothing but sleep, then I get back to it."

Green gave a sigh of pseudo-frustration. "Alright. No less than five hours, that's an order." She chuckled. "Only you would negotiate fewer hours of sleep."

Silk raised his eyebrows. Hey, it's me. Improvise, overcome, adapt. I took my marine training to heart in all aspects of my life. Most especially as a physician. I'll rack-out now, Commander."

Green gave a nod and walked out and down the ramp. She half turned to look back. "I'll close the hatch for seclusion. If you aren't sleeping I will order the computer to release anesthazine and knock you out. Bed, Captain Silk."

Giving a chuckle at that Silk gave her a mock salute. "On my way to bed, mom."

Giving a nod of satisfaction at his answer Green tapped her badge and told the computer to close the hatch and secure it. Once it closed she turned back to the hospital as she intended to continue the grisly work of shuffling bodies.
