Post Number 11 Boarding Physicals-Part Two

Mission: Are You Worthy?-2
Location: Sick Bay
Timeline: Just Before the Away Team leaves the ship.

ON:

Kristian had been in the back of sick bay checking on supplies when she heard the doors to sick bay open and the EMH activate. Puzzled as to why it had been activated headed out into sick bay to see three people that she'd never seen. "Computer deactivate the EMH." The hologram vanished "I'm Doctor Long the CMO how may I be of assistance?"

Smithers gave another stern look at Jennifer and then motioned for Grainger to join them. He was glad that the EMH was gone. It didn’t look so happy. Then he addressed the CMO, “Greetings Doctor Long. I’m Lt James Smithers, and my companions are Lt Jg Troy Grainger and my daughter Jennifer Smithers. I apologize for the sudden intrusion and for my daughter activating the EMH. She had never seen one before. Trust me, I’m going to have a talk to her about that. We just boarded the Amandora a little while ago and after talking to Commodore Song she had us report to you for boarding Physicals”.

Grainger spoke up. “Doctor the sickbay seemed quiet, and I take it that there hasn’t been a chance yet to let you know that we are here. We are new crew members. I’m shortly joining an away team to the planet’s surface so I feel that I should be the first to get a physical. I’m a new Science Officer, Smithers is also a new Science Officer specializing in Biology, and his daughter Jennifer even though she didn’t go through Starfleet academy she is considered a Crew member.”

Jennifer looking a little ashamed said, “Doctor sorry for activating the EMH. I was curious about him or her. I have a master’s degree from Earth specializing in Botany. I got permission from Starfleet to come along on this mission.”

Smithers added, “I can get our medical records for you. We came aboard the Amandora using my Runabout. On board my ship it has our latest medical records. Until this assignment we had been taking a long break. Sorry if we are all talking at once. We are excited about this mission.”

"If you and I'm sure you three have, given your transfer orders to the Commodore and Commander Parker then your already members of the ship. I don't need you to give me your medical records as I can access them from Star Fleet Command," Kristian said "As for the EMH I personally don't like them. I've only used it once. Miss Smithers, are you here just for this mission or are you going to be staying with the ship? As you stated, you’re here for this mission. Why don't we go into my office so I can pull up your files and see what they show from your last assignments." Kristian led the way into her office. She took a seat behind her desk and indicated for them to have seats. "Please have seats."

Smithers replied, “Doctor Long I assure you we have already given the Commodore the transfer orders for joining the Amandora. As for my daughter, her last assignment was at Starfleet Headquarters. Having gone through basic training and additional courses in her field of Botany and Astrobiology she is now considered to be an Enlisted Officer Crewman 2nd Class."

Jennifer spoke up. Dr Long the agreement that I have with Starfleet is that I will be on the Amandora for its first mission. When the mission is finished, I will decide whether to stay on with the ship or go back to Earth for the 4 year Cadet Training at Starfleet Academy.

Kristian entered her log in and password into her computer and pulled up the medical files on the three new members of the ship and studied them for a few minutes. "Lieutenant Grainger since you've been assigned to an away mission let me get your physical done first." she got up from her desk picked up her medical tri-coder "Let's begin with your weight, there is a scale in the corner."

As Dr Long was starting Grainger’s physical Smithers and Jennifer stepped back a bit. Jennifer spoke to Smithers. “Dad when was the last time you got a physical?” I imagine it was a while ago. Anything I should know? Smithers replied I have been busy and the only thing that should show up is that I’m a little out of shape. Still in Starfleet regulations as our doctor here will prove. Jennifer added oh btw the Doctor seems to have some plants in her office. I haven’t seen any in real life before, but I would swear that they are from the planet Amzock. Smithers smiled, I’m sure that the doctor would be happy to talk about them.

Grainger stepped up on the scale and commented. Doctor Long I noticed that you are not busy right now. I realize it’s only the beginning of the mission but where are your staff. I was curious because when we entered sick bay it didn’t look like anyone was here. Also, things here are neat and tidy and it looks like you’re ready for anything. I take it that you’re hands on. I personally don’t care about EMH’s or holograms in general, I prefer exploring a place in person. I have done a lot of mountain climbing, hiking, and checking out caves a lot in the past.

"My sick bay is fully staffed, I'm ready for what ever the commodore gets us into. Currently there is no need for the rest of my people. They can be here in a matter of minutes. There is another doctor and a nurse in here, I have them on assignments," Kristian said, she checked the weight. "Your a little underweight otherwise that's fine. I'll run some scans and you'll be free to go. Have a seat and I'll do my scans." Kristian walked over to a cupboard and removed her medical tri-coder and walked back over to Grainger and scanned him. After a few minutes she nodded as she closed her tr-coder "Your cleared for active duty.

Kristian turned back Smithers and Jennifer. "Lieutenant Smithers while you may think your i good shape and the only thing wrong might be your weight, well that is for me to determine. Miss Smithers I'll be happy to talk about the plants in here once the physicals are finished. Lieutenant your next. On the scale please."

Grainger looked up during the physical. Dr Long I’m sorry if there was any offense, I will get use to your way of running your sickbay. When she finished, and he was cleared for duty he thanked her for the Physical and said they are probably waiting for me in the transporter room. Going out the door he had the Security Guard lead him to the transporter room.

Smithers watched Grainger leave. He hoped that Grainger knew what he was doing. Jennifer chimed in. Dad let the doctor do her work. Seeing the look in his eyes. Uncle Grainger will be fine.

Speaking up Smithers said, Dr Long I’m with Grainger if we offended you in any way please forgive us. We volunteered to join this mission. All three of us are excited as to what is out there, and we certainly don’t want to step on any toes. To let you know I’m now the ships Biologist. Grainger’s specialty is Geology, and Jennifer is well versed in Botany. I’m sure she can tell you more about that.

Kristian shook her head, "You've not offended me, just remember just because you cannot see something or someone does not mean it's not there. I understand sciences, some is used in medicine. That said let's get your physicals done as Miss Smithers you've shown interest in my plants and I'd be happy to tell you what they are."

Smithers had a lot to think about. If he had a choice, he would have had Grainger wait before going on an away mission. His choice of course. It seemed like all three of them were too excited about this mission. Need some time to settle down and get used to their new surroundings. Smithers spoke up to the doctor, “Dr Long I like your no-nonsense approach to things. That reminds me of how my wife is. I would like to check out the plants you have as well. I feel that Jennifer and I need to rest after checking out the plants. It’s been a long flight from Earth”

"Let's finish your physicals and I'll clear you both for duty," Kristian said as she scanned both of them. After several minutes Kristian closed her tri-coder "Your both cleared for active duty. You've both expressed interest in my plants. They are native only to my home planet. What would you like to know about them?"
