Post Number 18 Holding Down The Ship

Posted on Thu Jul 23rd, 2026 @ 6:22pm by Captain Alesha Rivers & Lieutenant Alister McKeon & Lieutenant JG Kalina Johnson & Lieutenant JG David Montgomery

Mission: Echoes Of The Past-4
Location: Amandora

ON: Aleasha moved to the center seat and watched the main screen at the ship they were in orbit of. "Engineering, helm, Science, "Anything to report? Anything on sensors?" Alesha asked. Things were quiet and sometimes that could mean trouble.

"Not since the last time ma'am, we're still in geosynchronous orbit. Nothing new yet from the away team, I assume?" Kalina asked with a warm smile on her face.

"Nothing Kalina from the away team yet," Alesha replied.

Alister glanced over after a quiet conversation over a secure channel. He leaned back in the observation seat stretching lightly, looking over at Alesha and gently placed a hand on her arm giving it a gentle squeeze, “Take a deep breath and relax, if something comes up they’ll let you know,” he whispered softly so only Alesha could hear. He raised his voice to a normal conversation level, “So good news I finally managed to track down the customs officer who’s been holding up a shipment of rare Bajoran hardwood dad’s been waiting on for two months.”

"Question is where is it being held at?" Alesha asked.

"Everything is good down in engineering, ma'am." David replied. He had been busy running diagnostics on his engines and everything came back normal. This was the way he liked things to be.

Sabbath returned to his post after a small rest. His first scan soon revealed a possible issue. " Captain long range sensors are detecting a vessel entering this system. It is too far to determine its markings." Sabbath reported.

"Engineering good work, Let's hope we have no issues, but if we do I cannot think of a better person to be chief engineer. Science keep sensors on that ship. Once it's in range scan it and above all no hostile move unless it's warranted," Alesha said.

"I'll continue geosynchronous orbit." Kalina said, with the big relief on her tone. She was worried about the away team even though they were communicating, what Alister said made sense, if they needed our help they would let us know. Or the minimum they would see some kind of signs of it.

Alister started to answer the question with Betazed, but stopped with the announcement of the ship on scanner, “We have a security team on standby to beam down to the planet, I recommend we send them down. Give the senior officers on planet some additional support if the unknown turns out to be less than friendly and we’re forced to raise shields.”

David was awaiting any orders Captain Rivers might give. A ship entering the area could mean a number of things. He would wait his orders.

"Not a bad suggestion Captain Rivers." Kalina suggested, knowing that the decision wasn't hers and she is grateful for that. She wondered if Aleasha was going to reach out to Cyndi an Benjamin.

Alesha turned to Sabbath, "I need scans on that ship. I
don't want to be caught by surprise. Is that ship hostle?"

"Yellow alert just in case," Alesha ordered.

"Do you want me to break orbit?" Kalina asked from the helm station. She wondered where the ship came from. It was not on long range sensors.

"Let's wait and see what that ship out there is first. They may just be watching us," Alesha said, "Stand by."

Sabbath also read the data and was especially concerned that the force field had hidden the life signs of Lt Commander Emma Parker.

Alister spoke briefly to the transporter room to verify the security team had departed before pressing the button that sent the yellow alert alarm across the ship, “All hands Yellow alert, this is not a drill,” he said calmly across the ship’s PA system and watched the readout in the arm of his chair. “Ship’s at yellow alert, shields are up, reading a hundred percent across the board. Standing by to charge phaser banks, and load torpedoes.”

"Lieutenant Sabbath what are your scans showing on that ship out there?" Alesha ordered.

" It is on a moderate paced trajectory Captain. " Sabbath replied.

"Is it showing any signs of being hostile?" Alesha asked.

"No no no, I'm so sorry." A young low ranking crewman at tactical started to bumble around with his words. He felt very embarrassed. "Captain I'm sorry, I accidentally had a training simulation on I'm turning it off now, I'm not sure how I triggered it." The crewman said as the ship disappeared from the sensors and from the main viewer. He was operating a combat simulation program. He felt so foolish, and idiotic for accidentally setting up the program.

"Mistakes happen, but this could have been disastrous, make sure it does not happen again," Alesha said. “It will go in my report to the commodore and XO." Turning to Alistar, "Recall the security detail you sent down. Stand down yellow alert."

Sabbath was not amused as he looked to the crewman as well.

Alister gave a nod of his head and pushed the button returning the ship to regular alert status before having the Security team beam back aboard the ship. “Security is back aboard,” he said as he looked at the readouts on his display, “We did manage to shave two seconds off reaching full Yellow alert then normal.”

David had heard the conversation and shook his head. They could have had a battle with a simulation. Now, wouldn't that have been interesting.

"Anything on sensors that we need to be aware of?" Alesha asked.

"No captain, sensors are clear." The security officer said wanting to hide under a rock. He wanted to get off the bridge as soon as possibly, he felt like an idiot.

Alister stood from his seat and moved behind the security officer giving him a gentle pat on the shoulder. He looked to other security officers present picking out a senior petty officer, “Take over the external sensors.” He turned his attention back to the security officer who had made the original mistake turning his console into simulation mode disconnecting it from the main bridge displays, “Alright walk me through what you where going for with the simulation and your actions if you had the big chair. If it’s interesting I’ll go back to my seat and play the opposition pit you against flesh and blood opponent rather than a computer.” The poor kid was going to get an earful from a bunch of people might as well get started on rebuilding some of his confidence he thought watching over his shoulder at his display.

Sabbath, still not amused, then resumed his scans of the away team and planet.

David was sitting at his desk, when one of his engineers came running in. "We are getting warnings that the engines are failing!"

David ran out into the main room and over to one of the screens. He quickly moved to the engines and frowned. There did not appear to be any signs of that their was immenent danger. Everything appeared to be running as normal. He grabbed a tricorder and ran an independent scan. "Everything appears normal." He said quickly. "Bridge!" He pressed his comm. "Are you experiencing any issues with the computers?"

Sabbath at science nodded no to Captain Rivers as it was probably the ensigns program playing havoc again.

Alesha walked over to Sabbath, "What are you seeing?" tapping her com-badge, "I think science is experiencing an issue and I have gotten a few reports that there have been glitches, computers are flickering,"

" Odd energy spikes but nothing I am able to pin point. Probably an engineering issue or operations. The science feed is on a different circuit so that is what makes it confusing." Sabbath replied.

Alesha tapped her com-badge "Engineering science reports odd energy spikes and it has him confused. He just informed me that science is on a different circuit,"

" Actually its called an isolinear circuit." Sabbath added.

"I never heard of them," Alesha commented

David kept an eye on his computers, did some adjustments and the warnings faded away. It wasn't five minutes and he received another one. He was beginning to believe this was some kind of computer glitch.

"Every warning we take as real." He told his team. "Don't assume it's faulty."

Sabbath ran the same scans as before and discovered a most peculiar pattern. The sequence of engineering alarms on occurred when the ship orbited directly above the continent where the landing party had beamed down. There was also something else as he was now reading an energy pattern .

" Captain sensors are reading a localized energy pattern. There also appears to be a scanning beam that is tracking our ship when ever we pass over the away teams position." Sabbath discovered.

"That could be the cause of the computer glitches," Alesha commented. Tapping her com-badge. "Engineering I'm sending you the readings from science. Lieutenant Sabbath believes that could be the cause of our computer issues. Can you confirm and if so I think a higher orbit is best or we break orbit and orbit one of the planets moons,"

“Could we shift our orbit see if the beam is tracking us, or is just pointing at the one point in space,” Alister asked from where he stood.

"I've got it, Captain." David replied. After a few moments he continued. "It is definitely the cause of our issues." He replied. "I will see if we can come up with a way to disarm it but with our crew down there it will be tricky."

"Lieutenant McKeon ls wondering if the beam is tracking us and do you think we adjust our orbit to see if that is indeed to the issue?" Alesha replied. "I don't want to break orbit with our away team down there but I also don't want to put the ship in danger."

A few minutes passed. "I don't think it is tracking us." David said after a moment. "It feels more like they are trying to keep us busy. I am concerned for our people down there."

"As am I lieutenant, is there a way to block the beam? Or should we adjust our orbit to get away from the beam? There is a nearby moon we can orbit that will still keep us in transporter range, Thoughts?" Alesha asked as she looked at the planet below and pondered her options.

Kalina decided to chime in. "I get can get us in place, but I am not sure about the rest Captain." She knew she was just one element needed to carry out Alesha's plan.

"Make it so lieutenant and adjust our orbit to stay ahead of the beam. Take us up but keep us up and keep us in transporter range," Alesha ordered as she watched the feeds coming in. What ever was going on with the planet?

David listened as they came up with this plan. He wasn't certain this.was best to.leave their crew behind but it.was a tough call.

"Orders?" Kalina said, knowing that Alesha what's going to have to make the call, and being grateful that it wasn't her that had to make the decision.

"My orders are, take us up to a higher orbit and still keep us in transporter range, adjust our orbit to keep us ahead of that beam," Alesha said. "I'm not ready to break orbit, not unless I have to. My hopes are we get higher hopefully the beam won't be as strong."

"Hi captain, adjusting our course pretty soon I hire geosynchronous orbit. No that I'll have to constantly adjust our course being a tie up the gravity will will try to slingshot us out. There's an unusual radiation band that will affect our maneuvering thrusters. But I can compensate for that." Kalina said as she advised Alesha.

"Do your best and if you have to take us lower again feel free to do so," Alesha said "I just need us to keep ahead of that beam until we can get the away team back aboard."

"Or we could slam on our brakes." David said through the comm. "Reverse and confuse the hell out of it." After a moment he spoke. "The beam has been shut off, Captain Rivers. Systems in engineering have returned to normal."

"Good work Lieutenant," Alesha responded "Helm take us down to transporter range."

"Aye Captain."' Kalina said worth a warm smile on her face, as she inputted the flight path at the helm.

"Captain transporter room reports the away team is aboard. The commodore said to head to Star Base Danvers,"

"Helm set course for Star Base Danvers warp four," Alesha ordered.
