Mission: Star Base Mercury
Location: Holodeck 2
Timeline: Current

On

After spending several hours making sure the simulation was just right, David stood in the middle of the ring ring and smiled. Sending out a text only message to the entire crew, it read, "Come one, come all, watch the MMA fight of the century as David Hurd takes on any commers". "Are you brave enough to step into the ring with him, or brave enough enough even to watch?". Captain Hurd will be waiting on Holodeck two to find out."

A few minutes later Christina walked through the doors of holodeck 2, She was glad no one else had arrived yet as she wanted to speak to David alone. “Hey” She offered a smile. “I hope you know what you’re doing, you’re still recovering from your injuries.” She gently took his hand. “I don’t want to see you get hurt.”

Kneeling down, he grasped her hand and said, "Hun, I'll be ok, 7 year back to back champ on unarmed combat, so I'll do alright."

Chrissy nodded and offered a warmer smile. “I’m sorry I just ... never had anyone I loved to care about before. I worry!” She leant forward to give him a kiss. “That’s for luck, I’ll be right here for you.”

After arriving on the USS Amandora new Chief Operations Officer Lieutenant Junior Grade Tyran Nige and his assistiant Chief OPs Officer Ensign Logan Mcqueen were on their way to meet their new Commanding Officer after receiving word from Starfleet about the Sentinel's Commanding Officer Captain James McCullen's resignation when he got a text only message from the Amandora's Marine Commander a Captain david Hurd that a MMA Fight was happening on holodeck 2.

Amethyst arrived outside the holodeck with Will, Kal and baby Flora. “You go, enjoy yourself and have fun” she smiled at her husband. “I’ll look after the kids while you go and enjoy yourself, you deserve it!” She kissed him on the cheek.

Will returned the kiss. Seeing the Captain heading his way Will darted in.

Cyndi, Tara and Kristian walked into the holo deck eager to see what Captain Hurd had planned and who he planned to have participate.

Stepping to the ring Commander Will Raymond entered.

" I guess I am first."

Damien had entered the holodeck doors. He had made friends along the way with a new Lieutenant JG named Hastings. They both were interested in the communication they had received in a general announcement.

Saunders entered the room to see others already standing around, and Commander Raymond was stepping forward.

"Uh, what is happening?" Brian Hastings, Chief Flight Controller, had raised an eyebrow at Damien.

"I think we're about to witness a bit of MMA." He chuckled. "This should be fun." He crossed his arms, focusing his attention to the ring. It was Captain Hurd, a good guy he had met and talked with earlier. The two men were in good shape, and would be interesting how far a match would run its course.

"I wonder, should we call a doctor just, in case something happens?" Lieutenant Hastings raised a brow.

"Nah. I think this will be a good ol' match." Damien shook his head.

Will had been drinking earlier and seemed to have had too much liquid courage. The irony was he had only recently took up the habit.

" Where is Hurd?" Will yelled.

But surprisingly another person also entered the arena. Ltjg Kordell, the
former security officer, had come to challenge Hurd.

" Commander this one is mine." Kordell stated boldly. Will smiled and then exited the arena.

" Maybe next time." Will joked.

Kordell, being Klingon had begun relations with Christina and felt his right of parmaqqaypu had been violated.

Cyndi turned to Doctor Long "Are you prepared if this gets ugly?"

"Always commodore, I carry a field med kit with me at all times," Kristian assured her

"Maybe I'll challenge him too," Tara commented "I need a good workout."

Chrissy was watching with concern, she hoped that she hadn’t offended Kordell. They’d only had one date, which wasn’t truly a date and nothing more had come of it since then. She could only sit near the ring and hope neither man got badly hurt.

Kordell smiled unaware of her attachment to the marine human.

"Christina, I will eliminate this human in your honor." Kordell declared.

Christina looked horrified. “Kordell ... this is a friendly fight and I certainly don’t want David hurt!” She looked across at Hurd then back at Kordell. “Please don’t fight in my honour do it for yourself,”

" Are you now with this...marine?" Kordell snarled.

Chrissy nodded. “Yes I am, I didn’t intend for it to happen but it did. Besides you and I we only had one brief evening of fun and nothing since.”

Kordell growled, scowled and then exited the arena. Walking past Christina and said nothing as he exited the holodeck.

"I'm looking forward to seeing this competition Captain Hurd has planned," Cyndi commented

"I wonder what's taking him so long?" Tara said "Maybe I'll challenge him too."

"I might challenge him too." Damien nodded, knowing that the Commander Raymond had a few to drink earlier when he had met him in 10 Forward.

Removing his uniform shirt and casting it aside, Hurd pulled himself up into the ring. Surveying the crowd assembled, he said, in a loud, booming voice, "So who's going to be my first challenger?".

Master Sergeant Dallas strolled around the arena. Eyeing the crowd and then into the arena.

" Sir you seem to have no challenges. I guess I will have to step up." Dallas offered.

Having heard about this little battle royale Doctor Bjorgo had dressed casual. His favorite black fatigue pants with thigh pockets, tucked into Starfleet combat boots, topped by a sleeveless black T-shirt. The entire outfit was solid black as he entered and observed the ring. His nostrils took in the smell of blood, sweat and pheromones, causing his heart to race a mite faster. However, he kept his body under control as he stood in an aisle at the front row, hands clasped behind his back to observe.

First Lieutenant Foster ran to the holodeck. He got the message about the training time a little late and was coming form a meeting with First Lieutenant Porter. When he got to the holodeck, things were already happening. "Sorry I'm late, I was in a meeting with Frst Lieutenant Porter," he said to the group.

"It's fine lieutenant, the match hasn't started yet," Cyndi commented

Dallas stretched and made his presence known with a shadow dance and some open air punches. Looking over to Hurd.

Then a virtual announcer appeared.

" Let's get Ready to RUMBLE".

Hurd struck first, catching Dallas in the side of the face with a hard left jab, followed up by a spin kick to the chest. Not letting up, Hurd grabbed Dallas's head and slammed his knee into his face, sending him reeling backwards.

Foster watched the fight. Having done quite a bit of combative training throughout his short career, he tried to follow along to see the various techniques they used. "Ouch, I bet that one hurt," he said after a hard swing landed. "How do I sign up?" he asked out loud.

"Sick bay's going to be busy," Cyndi whispered

Christina was sitting ringside looking concerned not just for Hurd but for his opponents as well. He was being pretty brutal to poor Dallas.

Dallas being shaken and sturred spit blood then stood up. Locking up collar and elbow he swiftly kneed Hurd in the ribs and then elbow smashed his solar plexis. Pushing him to the ground to recover.

Christina gasped as she watched Dallas bring Hurd down, her horror no doubt showing on her face as she watched. She didn’t want to see him getting hurt but at the same time she didn’t want to walk out and leave him feeling like she didn’t care either.

Dallas then swiveled around preparing for the Captains retaliation move.

Several marines in the crowd then began chanting," Top, Top,Top,"

Hurd pulled himself to his feet, shaking off the pain in his ribs. Running full speed at Dallas, he landed a spin kick to his forehead, followed by several hard jabs to chest and face. Hurd waited a few seconds, then landed a hammerblow punch to Dallas's right jaw, another quickly to the left, and a final one directly dead center of his face, leaving him stunned and dazed.

Dallas was left winded and dazed and slooped to one knee.

" You're good Captain Hurd. Permission to be excused before I forget this is an exhibition." Dallas stated to Hurd.

Flashing a braid smile, Hurd extended his hand to help Dallas up. "Dallas, Permission granted, your very good yourself". And very quietly, so only Dallas could hear, he whispered, "I think you cracked a couple of my ribs", he said chuckling softly. Looking out at the crowd, Hurd said, "Alright, next challenger!!!"

Dallas limped out and headed to the infirmary to mend his own issues.

"Like you said commodore sick bay's going to be busy, but I have to confess I'm enjoying this," Kristian commented

"Safety protocols won't let anyone get hurt too badly," Cyndi reminded them

< Out side the Holodeck >

The uniformed officer closed up the holodeck control panel after making the unneeded adjustments to the safety protocol perimeters. Nobody inside could see the changes but the arena was now a licensed blood bath pit.

< Back to the Action >

Two marine corporals entered the arena hopeful to get some ship fame. Riggs and McGee had served with each other since the academy.

" Hi sir," both saluted Hurd then began punching and kicking to warm up for their debut.

" This next match is a 2 out of three falls match 2 on 1 Folks. Captain Hurd has to defeat both opponents to win the match," the announcer sounded. " In a steel cage with razored barb wire."

"Barb wire is nothing to fool around with," Tara said loudly "That stuff can kill."

" Barbed wire? Cage match? What the f...? Riggs about said.

"Then that", Hurd said, assuming a fighting stance, "is the order of things". He launched himself like a rocket at the two men, smashing his fist into Riggs chest and following up seconds later by slamming his right knee into McGees jaw, dazzling both men. He disintangled himself from them, and backflipped a few feet away, assuming a defensive posture and awaiting their response.

Both marines recovered and rushed the Captain. Hand to hand style based upon their training they targeted his ribs as they knew he had been injured earlier.

"I'm just glad the holo deck's safety measures are in place," Cyndi commented.

Riggs and McGee then both slammed the Captain against the razored walls causing real blood to ooze across Hurds back.

Christina couldn’t see her lovers back but she could see a pained expression on his face, she was starting to worry even more now. This was total and utter craziness.

Unaware that more dangers appeared in the arena as the sides of the cage energized. Riggs ran to bounce off of the ropes for a flying manuver but was immediately seized by the arc current. Seeing this McGee grabbed Riggs and pulled him free throwing him on to the mat where he convulsed and died.

"Ive seen enough!" Cyndi called "Computer end program!"

Hearing the call to end the program Christina rushed into the ring to be with her man, it was then that she saw the mess his back was in. "We need a doctor!"

Kristian turned to Cyndi "Stay here, Doctor Bjorgo and I will keep you posted," not giving Cyndi a chance to answer Long bolted for the ring and gasped when she saw Riggs and the mess Hurd's back was in. Not to mention the other occupants that had started in what was supposed to be a friendly match. "Damn safety protocols should have prevented this."

Hurd was confused, angry, and in pain all at once. Crawling towards Riggs, with blood pouring off his back,he let out a howl of pure, gut wrenching sorrow as cried, "The safety protocalls were on, I triple checked them myself, the computer triple checked them, Jesus Christ what did I do!?". Reaching the prone and still form of Riggs, Hurd began crying, real tears streaming down his face as he shook Riggs shoulder and said,in a broken voice, "Come on Riggs, get up, please, please get up".

Kristian walked over to where Hurd was kneeling next to Riggs "I'll send him to sick bay and see what I can do. I learned a technique on Dinobula and if there's a chance, it has to be soon."

Cyndi walked to the ring and knelt next to Hurd and gently placed her hand on his shoulder "Safety measures were on, someone had to sabotage this and I'll get a full investigation going on this. You go with Doctors Bjorgo and Long to sick bay so they can heal you. Let security handle this now."

"Damn it!!" Saunders rushed to the end of the holo-arch, and un-attaching an emergency med-kit. He unhooked it from the wall, and broke haste, as he jumped over the now opened, side of the caged match, in the process cutting his self off the barbs, not even to flinch.

He sat the med kit next to Hurd and Riggs. His eyes dilatating in frustration. He searched at the kit, finding a few sedatives. "The Capt. He needs pain relief, he's in agony!" He spoke angrily.

"I've given him something for pain?" Kristian assured Saunders, Riggs body had been transported to sick bay in hopes what she'd learned could save him.

Christina crouched down the opposite side of Hurd, she wanted to be there to support him in his time of need.”David ... you need to go to Sickbay” She gently held onto his arm as she waited for him. “I’ll go with you, I’m not leaving you!”

"Captain Hurd let me get you to sick bay where you can be properly treated," Kristian said

Amethyst had felt a shift in emotions from their quarters, having dropped Kal in with a friend she carried baby Flora with her as she made for the holodeck. As the doors opened she walked inside to witness the carnage for herself, horrified to see a man down, and Hurd wounded she walked over to Will. “What happened?!”

" I'm not sure, but they're on top of it," Will casually replied as if oblivious.
