ON:
Cyndi walked onto the bridge “Communications recall the crew we have orders, Admiral Wilson will be aboard to give us our orders. Senior Staff are to report to the briefing room.
“Understood sir,” the communications officer said as she carried out Cyndi’s orders “Senior Staff to the briefing room,”
Cyndi walked into the briefing room to find the admiral already there.
Alister walked into the briefing room glancing at a few PADDs in his hand and grumbling lightly at the info on them, “Captain, Admiral,” he said with a nod to the two senior officers.
Alesha walked in just behind Alister, seeing the admiral standing next to the commodore knew this was big. Alesha took a position near the door and waited for the rest of the staff to arrive."
Acting Chief Engineer Ltjg Odac Yova also received the call and rushed up. He and his new wife of only a few days had just returned from Earth . Yova couldn't wait to return to his cabin later and to his new wife.
Chief Flight Control officer Lt Suvak also was on hand for the briefing.
T’Mari had returned to the ship just that morning, having had a wonderful time on Earth with Greg Jackson. She couldn’t wait to do it again next shoreleave. She smiled warmly as she entere the briefing room and took a seat.
Greg worked his way into the briefing room a cup of coffee in his hands as he glanced around giving T’Mai a soft smile as he took his seat.
T’Mia returned Greg’s smile, she’d found herself a man who was very special and she intended to make sure he knew it.
James was in his Office when he received the call to report for a senior staff meeting; grabbing his coffee he made his way to the briefing room. Upon entering the room James made his usual nods to Senior Command before taking his seat.
Kelliza had been in the middle of putting something together in her office when the summons came. "Frack!" Nothing for it, she finished her last bit and then hurried to the briefing room. As she entered Bjorgo came around the bend and they walked in together, he of course allowing her to go slightly ahead of himself, as any gentleman would. "Apologies for my tardiness, folks. Was in the middle of something that required me to stay longer.
Bjorgo went to his usual seat earmarked for the CMO and took the seat, leaning back and clasping his hands over his lap, elbows on the armrests. "A doctor arrives exactly when they should," he beamed. "Hi, everyone."
Cyndi checked the time knowing the admiral's time was limited "We'll begin, Major Hurd can be filled in when he arrives. I'm going to turn this over to Admiral Wilson. But before I do, for those of you who don't know Commander Bird has left, I've promoted Lieutenant Kahn to Lieutenant Commander and to the position of XO."
"Thank you commodore, to those who don't know me I'm Admiral Wilson, Commodore Song's boss. I asked her to let me brief you on this as it's going to be a difficult assignment. I've seen the reports about the Section 31 who managed to get aboard the ship and I found out along with Gnneral Long that they were a band of renegades. They've been beamed aboard in status where they'll remain. Commodore you'll be taking them to Ura Pente (If I spelled it wrong fix it please) They'll be brought out of status prior to being beamed down there. I don't want any more chances that they'll get loose and cause more trouble. Now for what I'm doing here. Along the Cardassion neutral zone a concentration camp has been discovered where several sects of JemHadar are still holding hostages. They've grown up. They are holding Cardassian children who do not know the war is over. The children have grown up and their parents I'm sure are still there too. The biggest fear we have is that the JemHadar's supply of white has run out and we all know how mean they can be without it. The planet is called Demora and it's in a Solar System called Pruvia. I don't have any details on the planet or the solar system. Your orders are to get there, free the hostages, and help relocate them to Cardassia Prime if they want to go. But I will say this is going to be dangerous. We all know what the JemHadar are capable of and without the white I don't want to say what they'll be like. Any questions?"
Alister looked up from the PADDs in front of him, “I thought without the white the Jem Hadar died. I know they begin to loose their abilities particularly the ability to cloak without it.”
Hurd walked in, still tugging on his uniform. He had had a rough night and was wondering what was going on. Speaking in a pleasant voice he asked, "Can someone tell me what's going
on?"
"Normally lieutenant that's the case, and I'm as puzzled as you are," Katrina said "That will be a good thing for sciences and medical to look into once you get there." Katrina turned to the major and brought him up to speed on what she'd briefed them on. "I won't be on for the mission but I want it clear that those renegade Section 31 operatives are not brought out of status until they're ready to transport to the penal colony. In fact as dangerous as they are I'm all in favor of keeping them in status until they're beamed down and to let the commandant wake them up."
James grabbed his PADD and made some notes to perform a full workup of Demora once they were within sensor range. Any away teams needed to know the environment before they were on the surface.
"Anyone else have any questions or comments?" Admiral Wilson asked as she looked to Cyndi "You have a guest in your ready room. Your guest will explain things to you."
"Understood admiral," Cyndi said puzzled as to who was on her ship. "As the admiral said any further questions or comments?"
“Do they have starship support, or are we looking at strictly ground combat against dug in and fanatic forces,” Greg asked from his seat as he took a sip of his coffee.
"Let's assume they have starship support," Katrina answered "The Intel reports we received didn't indicate it but we really have no way to know."
Bjorgo had been thinking, and with his brain it ran calculations in droves, all at the same time. He spoke up as he came up out of his reverie. "There are plants and animals that could carry what is needed to offset the white addiction. You're correct, Alister, they should have died off. But, if their Vorta is dead and the white is gone, perhaps they found an alternate source. There is a planet chock full of a plant where the Founders developed the white for the Jem'hadar. Perhaps this world produces something equal."
Kahn had taken the XO's chair next to Song, liking the ideas and roundabout going on. "I like the enthusiasm, folks. Remember, to the Cardassians we are the enemy. If they think the war still rages then that is what we'll face, along with the Jem. I fought those bastards during the Dominion war. They are smart, dedicated, but honorable. The first thing we should determine is if the Jem'hadar know the truth, or if they are as ignorant to the outside galaxy as the colonists. If they know then perhaps we can use diplomacy and promise to get them back home." As a member of Starfleet, like all others, personnel were diplomats first, explorers second, and combatants third. She would make damn sure that Starfleet protocol and objectives were seen to in their proper order.
T’Mia had sat quiet taking in all that was being said. “What we truly need to be aware of is the fact that, those who were once hostages may now be more like allies to the Jem’Hadar. Depending on how they’ve been treated and raised these children may consider the Jem’Hadar as friends.”
"It's possible lieutenant, but remember to that the parents are there and they'll well remember that war," Cyndi commented "If they don't want to leave we can't force them to go. A lot of good officers and ships were lost in that war."
"But be forward counselor the Jem'hadar and the Cardassians are a ruthless race," Katrina said "I'm sure there has been bloodshed on both sides where they're concerned."
Bjorgo suddenly sat up like someone who had suddenly thought of something. And, of course, that was it exactly. "Why I didn't think of this before, I don't know. Jem'Hadar are very short lived. Elders never live passed twenty in Earth years. So, that is another mystery. Perhaps this planet has caused an adaptation in the Jem that has given them extended lifespans. I am most definitely on for this mission, Commodore."
Liza also chided herself internally for not thinking of that. "He's right. Jem'Hadar don't breed, they are cloned elsewhere. So, it stands to reason that this militia is the same group that has been there this whole time. As with the Doctor, Cyndi, I am fully on board for this."
"Unless they've been able to breed," Cyndi commented "I'm a scientist at heart and am looking forward to seeing what is going on there too. Any other questions or comments?"
" Commodore the new shields and warp core have been upgraded. Weapons systems are almost complete. According to my padd that system is riddled with mines." Ltjg Odac Yova reported.
Kahn upon hearing that looked to Song. "I say we get underway, Commodore. Anything else we need to discuss can be done in route." Her eyes then shifted to Tore's, expressing a need to talk further on the situation, before the gaze went back to neutral and looking about.
Bjorgo noted 'the look' in Liza's eyes, using his own to acknowledge. "If nothing further I shall return to the lab and do a mock up on what it would take to create a female Jem'Hadar. Since none have ever existed before. Starfleet knew, for absolute certain, which systems had Jem cloning facilities. They have all been shut down or destroyed, and this world-system was not among them." He stood up casually. "There are mysteries aplenty going on here."
Hurd, for his part had remained silent, just listening. Shaking his head, he said aloud, "You would figure they would have learned their lesson when we kicked them to the curb during the Dominion War, but hey, if they want to fight and die for their " Gods", then I'll be more than happy to arrange the meeting".
"Keep in mind major," Katrina said "They may not be aware the war is over."
"Lieutenant Rivers when we get close get your fighters out ahead of us, check and destroy any mines you find. Science full sensor sweep and get a prove out once Rivers has cleared the mines. Lieutenant Suvak get us underway warp four," Cyndi ordered. "Everyone dismissed. Away team assignments will be forthcoming." Cyndi said getting to her feet "Admiral I'll escort you to the air lock. Lieutenant Yova meet me in my ready room in a hour." With that Cyndi and Admiral Wilson walked from the briefing room
